Take a look through history and you'll be astounded by how many revolutions begin with student demonstrations like this one. I don't hold out much hope though seeming as my generation is pretty shit but I like to dream. I'm all for it and the more fire extinguishers throne out of windows onto cars the better.
Yeah, like a massive revolution would be started by a bunch of idiots being pissed about raised tuitions...

The thing is, its 'up to £9000', meaning that most won't cost that much!

I heard a bloke from the union on the news saying 'we have been singled out for the cuts.' Where the hell has he been? I'm in the military, we've had big cuts too, but just bit the bullet and carried on!

Until it's your car, obviously. And why do we, of all the fat, complacent people, need a revolution? I can think of a hundred countries that need a revolution, Britain is not one.
Yeah if it was my car the insurance company that I pay money too to fix stuff like that will make me jump through 210 hurdles to get told I need to pay up to £650 excess...

This country has gone too shit - With the fat cats more happy appeasing the banks/large corporations and other nations than helping their own people.

Call me selfish, but atm the UK has stashed aside £7.7bn for aid towards other countries and this is increasing to £11.6bn (over 4 years) - Charity starts at home.

Pensions are getting gimped, jobs seem to be vanishing, price of living is going up but Joe Average's wage is staying static due to All the red tape in the work place.

It makes it tough to advance in position unless you tick a box in equal opportunities...Unless the job hasn't already gone over seas.

Also Wales gets screwed over by governing bodies and other stupid things...Can't say much for the other places as I don't live there.

Yes this maybe a blinkered hate filled rant but from my life experience, living here is getting unbearable.

And to anyone that says they don't think peaceful protests can work I'll ask you to remember ghandi, the guy's a household name for a reason
Surprisingly not for his disdain for black people and enthusiasm for giving enemas to teenage girls. It's true!

I support protest of any kind. In these cases the violence isn't usually against people, but against things and I can get behind that.

no because you take a loan out to go to university. iv said it before and i will say it again ITS NOT FOR EVERYBODY, some people will get no benefit from going to university and some courses are completely arbitrary. This mindset that uni is the only way is complete nonsense, all the raise in price means the universities can afford to stay open (being that they are in MASSIVE debt) and people have to think twice before signing up to a course they dont know.
Still, taking out a loan three times the size of the previous one is still damaging to the lower classes. I know that if I took out a loan three times the size of what I have now I'd be stuck in debt for a long time. I'm aware that university isn't the only way to be successful, but I find that lack of education is one of the most common problems amongst people in my class standing, they should be finding ways to encourage elements of the lower classes into university.

... The fuck? I'm a university student in Germany, and I pay about 100 Euros per semester. There have been some seriously screwed up changes going on in our educational system, but looking at what you guys are made to shell out I'm still glad I live and study here.
If you are only paying 100 Euros a semester...I'm so very jealous of you...I'm paying 27,000 dollars US...I hate the price of education these days...

OT: Well, I pity the students, but at the same time I don't...just because you are still paying way less than I am and are probably still getting a better education than I am...I hate this stupid country...

9000 pounds a year? at the current exchange rate between the USD and BPS that totals to $14,553.80 I pay the equivalent of 13,900.20 British pounds PER SEMESTER. Thats 27,800.40 per year in British pounds.

And last i checked the consensus is that the quality of higher education in the UK is better than here in the US. Still think you guys are getting a raw deal?
I think you need to come to Canada. I'm at one of the top five universities here for $6000 a year.
wait where do you go to school then?
I know i am not at the best college but everyone comes for the animation. (can YOU guess where i am going? if so you can get a cookie!)

on topic:
this is a HUGE hike in fees for schooling. That is ridiculous!!! I know Britian is excellent for schooling but holy crap!

Nothing can be done, its not like the government is doing this just because they can...this shit needs to be delt with and they're reducing the defisite the best way they can, honestly if you have a better way of getting money i'm sure theyll be glad to hear it but i doubt a bake sale will work, as far as nobody getting hurt...for a change the police (who were not fighting back as usual) were the victims and if you watch the reports theres a lot of blood...and though normally im down for the fuck the police attitude in this instence they were innocent and the attention recived will undermine the cause...which was really stupid to be honest.

No kidding, when I went to school I paid the school about $20,000 a year, and that was after about $10,000 a year in grants and scholarships. There has to be something I'm not picking up here. Does it really only cost students in the UK like $4820 a year to attend school? If so, then this has probably been way overdue...

Well no not all, the lower end universities wont charge that much however Oxford, Cambridge Edinburgh, York... Basically any red brick uni, infact any uni that can get away with it will charge £9000. Did you know the current uni fee is "up too" £3000 but ud b hard pressed to find a university who doesnt charge that.

It basically means that the richest people will get the degress, while poorer will be put off

p.s good on ya being in the military, u guys do a damn good job and your right i never hear you complain

Good stuff in my opinion, im going to be severly effected by this, i hope to go to uni next year but i come from a very working class backgroud, so there is no way i would be able to afford to go to a top flight uni, at some point violence becomes justified, the lib dems broke their promises. the thing is that for far to long british students have just let everything slide, we've just shown the rest of europe that we can riot as good as any of them

Poorer kids can get grants for if they have the brain power...
Not anymore. The caps raised but the grant limit stays at 3,000. This is the problem.
Im a Uni student so I dont support the rise in tuition fees (cut trident/dont upgrade it- it's not functioning at the moment and we arent nuked- and aircraft carriers without supporting ships aren't that usefull either). I have to get maximum loans and grants as my parents are poor and cant help with costs and I also have to work 50+ hour weeks during the summer to have enough money for the year.

Because of this fee rise my three younger brothers are unlikely to be able to go to university, which is not fair, education is a right.

I participated in a completely non-violent march against the rise in fees, in the city I study in last month. I am proud to have done this. I don't agree with the use of violence used by a handful of the many that attended the recent protests, though it did attract a lot of press.

It's the SWP, they're just protesting because they've got nothing better to do (oh no the popularly elected right wing government is making right wing decisions! STOP THEM!). I'd bet a good bit that half of real troublemakers aren't even in university...

The people who were violent were the minority to the protestors.

My brother went to the protest, then wrote to the Irish Times about how everyone assumes the students are violent bastards but the people who were violent were just socialists.
