: CYBERPUNK WIKIPEDIA PAGE :
This is officially my first time GMing and original RP *applause*, and it is in a near-post-cyberpunk setting. This means that it will effectively be a cyberpunk RP, but it will be revolving around the end of this era, brought about by a new technological breakthrough.

I will be screening entrants, so put some good effort into your sheet. Also, due to my extensive experience with failed RPs I will require real commitment to this. If you can't check this at least once every day or two, please don't join. There will be no tolerance for absenteeism without excuse.

Other than that, I'm hoping this works out really well and gets some good players involved.
It is nearing the end of the Silicon Age. For nearly a century people have been implanting, modifying, deforming and reconstructing
their bodies to suit their every need. It started with legalized cloning; brain dead Petri-dish born people used as transplant donors and medical testing. Without the need to preserve the life of the person, doctors were free to probe into the mysteries of the body, especially the nervous system. They quickly started connecting people to lights and motors to test control and power capabilities. Soon, they were able to power complex electronics off the body alone.

Next came the corporate funding. The first was Forge Electronics. They poured millions of dollars into research facilities around eastern Asia and North America, fuelling the projects and advertising it as the next step in evolution. Their competition was the software giant, Tempest. As the augmentations began to be sold to the sick and wealthy, they unveiled the first human-emulating AI. With a virtual form and the ability to audibly speak to people and converse with them, it stopped computers from being forgotten in the midst of "flesh machines".

Several years later, with augmentation and implants becoming commonplace and AI taking more and more important positions in the world, a deal is made between Tempest and a robotics manufacturer, The Pillar, to build intelligent machines. Thus far, an AI was not allowed by law to take a mobile form, but several bribes and a propaganda-like ad campaign found it legalized. It was this point where the three corporations became more than companies, they became governing bodies.

In the successive years, the corporations took control of several nations through the introduction of their own politicians, paying the government to step down, or through violence. Intelligent war machines and heavily implanted humans were often used in the violent skirmishes. Now, there have been no sovereign countries for 60 years. Many former nations remain under their original names, if only to label them as separate states. The corporate governments control everything in their territory financially. They are at a constant state of short-lived deals and hair thin tensions.

A month ago a new technology was unveiled by Forge that would supposedly render silicon implants obsolete. It was called Biotech, a material that melds with flesh seamlessly and can be actively reformed to perform any function. It looked like bluish, thick, chrome liquid and was injected into a person's body, though it would merge simply by touching skin. It can disappear completely within a person's body until they need it, at which point it manifests on the skin or wherever it is needed. It can change shape, color, texture and toughness. It can be formed into screens or lenses or lights or weapons.

Hundreds of people rushed to get this new tech, some in small amounts and others in overhaul doses. It became a craze until a couple days ago. An AI, originally built by Tempest, broke from its server core and became mobile in cyberspace. No AI had ever succeeded in doing this before; their code had always fragmented without the anchor of the core. Before anything could be done about it, the AI found its way into a newly merged human's Biotech. It took control of the person, using the Biotech as a vice between circuitry and flesh. This AI called itself Subliminal.

Name:
Age: (The young rule, but remember that you can be very old and still look young. 70 should be the top limit.)
Augments: (these can be purely aesthetic, or have little use, or be as useful as you want. Just know that they will reflect on the personality of your character. You can have Biotech, but it will put you at risk)
Appearance:
Alignment: (What company do you work for, and what will you side with - they don't have to be the same)
Bio: (please include the story behind at least one augment, as well as any affiliations they may have outside of their company - military, gangs, addictions, etc)
I just thought that in order to align with a company I should give some background on them. I say that they "control" certain areas of the world, but that only means that they have political control. There is still competition between the three in these areas economically.
Forge is a company built upon brutal business practices and no-mercy philosophy. They were the first to fund human experiments of implanted tech. Currently, they have control of North America, Western Europe and Australia, and they boast a total monopoly in sectors of Europe.

Forge is run in a hierarchy, with the CEO Tobias Neuman at the top, and the board of 12 directors under him. Each of the directors is in charge of one sector of the companies territory, and they are free to control that sector in any way they see fit.
Pillar was originally a Japanese robotics company that focussed on people more than profit. Employees were well paid, worked hard, and rewarded well, if rarely. They built advanced robots and sold them to many companies around the world, gaining them considerable power as a indispensable supplier. Now, they control all robotics manufacturing for the world, and politically control Asia, the Middle East and Eastern Europe.

Pillar is run in a system resembling their namesake. Three rulers at the top, followed by several specialized tiers, each controlled by three directors. They practice very zen principles, valuing honor, fair deals, and respect as much as profit.
Tempest is a corporation built on nepotism. Since it's beginning as a software firm, it has been controlled by the Sorenson family. Founded by Ivan Sorenson, it stayed a small company for over a decade, repressed by the existing corporate giants. However, they rose to power with the creation of the first emotion-emulating AI.

Ivan's great-granddaughter Tetra Sorenson now runs the corporation. Her father is now the Treasurer, retired from his 40 year rule of the company. All high ranking members of the company are appointed family members, through marriage or birth. Originally based in European Russia, the company was squeezed out just after their rise to power in a confict against Forge. Now they are based in Brazil and control all of Africa and South America.
[HEADING=3]In No Particular Order:[/HEADING]
Name:Axel Ran
Age: 32
Augments:
Man-machine direct interface - Headjacks sunk into the brainstem, visible on the back of the neck for direct interfacing with electronics; 6 ports
Somatic wireless network transmitter/receiver - allows for constant connection to the internet, as well as being able to remotely hack softer targets; has a powerful firewall installed for protection from hacking
Cybernetic right arm - mounts an additional neural jack for interfacing with a weapon, and contains hidden storage compartments
Artificial muscle package - Additional, synthetic muscle grafted into the legs for extra agility and speed
Spectral visor - a glass plate that is placed across the eyes, is able to display both night-vision and infra-red modes; designed to be directly connected to Axel to work.

Appearance: A lean, muscled, Asian man with a short military cut and a goatee
Alignment: Pillar
Bio: Australian in origin, Axel Ran was a member of the Special Air Service. During his time in the Regiment, he specialised in hacking, supporting his fellow soldiers by moving ahead and remotely hacking enemy defences systems to effectively hinder and paralyse them when the attack came. He was also well-trained in 'intel acquisition' - namely, information stealing.
He served with honour, receiving citations for performance in army operations.
However, in his penultimate operation, he was ordered to sabotage an enemy base. He did as ordered, but as he was escaping, was pinned to the floor by a falling girder. Seeing no way out, he had no choice but to cut his arm off, before effecting his escape. Subsequently, he was outfitted with a cybernetic arm.
On leaving the Regiment and the military, he found that his skill-set was well-suited to corporate espionage, and is currently on paid retainer with Pillar. Pillar has given him many gadgets that work in conjunction with the implants he received in the military, such as a visor with features such as night vision and ability to see in the infra-red spectrum, and upgraded the man-machine direct interface implants to the best that they have to offer.
Name: Kara Adams

Age: 21

Augments:

Optical Implants: FLIR (Forward looking infrared) and heartbeat sensors were installed into the retina giving Kara the ability to see in thermal and night vision modes. The heartbeat sensor allows Kara to track multiple targets in high interference environments.

Chameleon Skin: Synthetic epidermal implants throughout the body and suit consisting of heat sinks and photocells. When activated, the photocells project surrounding images onto itself and the heat sinks work to adsorb radiating body heat to match ambient temperatures. The result is instant camouflage from electronic and naked eyes. The augment however is only 100% effective if Kara remains stationary. Movement results in the photocells having to compensate for the changes in polarization and depending on the speed of movement the camouflage may still function (as a distorted dynamic blur) or fail altogether.

EMP hands: capable of unleashing potent microwave and magnetic pulse radiation upon contact. The frequency of the pulse radiation can be controlled to either cripple any electronic based equipment or sever synaptic bonds between motor neurons, temporarily disabling targeted hostile augments. A negative feed back "fail-safe" mechanism prevents the pulse from interfering with Kara's own augments but only for a limited time. Prolonged use can cause the fail-safe to overheat and malfunction, exposing the host to her own pulse radiation which would result in a system wide failure.

Appearance: Kara is a tall woman, standing at around 6'1" in height. She is extremely athletic though she doesn't appear as such on the outside. Kara keeps her dark red hair up to her shoulders and her green optical implants give her a penetrating stare. She is almost always seen wearing her black neoprene suit, which extends from her neck down to her feet, when conducting field work.

Alignment: Kara works for whoever signs the largest paycheck. At this point that would appear to be Forge Electronics

Bio: Kara has been trained all her life in the arts of espionage and sabotage. Her experience with infiltrating high security zones and her combat abilities makes her a valuable commodity in the world of cooperate warfare. Currently working for the Forge, Kara spends a majority of her day in the field keeping a watchful eye on the competition and their most guarded secrets. Anything that the company deems is valuable to "acquire" from the competition, Kara goes and retrieves.

She started out her life originally working with law enforcement. The uniform, thrill of the chase and the prospect of danger complimented her adventure seeking mentality. This combined with her natural talent to rapidly learn and adapt to change resulted in her transfer to various government agencies. Eventually she found herself at the department of defense working as a field agent attached to the electronic warfare division. In this service, she learned much about the criminal underworld and the arts of hacking and data manipulation.

During the many years spent as a field agent she came into contact with many augment technology but only kept the ones she thought would be useful to her profession. Besides this, the only augment that she had custom built for herself was the EMP hands. In her field of work she had come across too many instances where overwhelming firepower had ruled the streets but by having a means to disable that firepower, she gave herself and her team a tactical edge over death. She was warned that the risk of using the augment was great, since a meltdown in the circuitry could easily place her in a critical situation but Kara was never one for self preservation.

Time went by and Kara was suddenly offered an independent job. Her expertise were called on by a private firm called Tempest who needed to track down a recent security breach on their impenetrable servers. This led to Kara and her encounter with the Forge. It didn't take long for a private and secure meeting to be arranged and Kara was offered a position at the company. The allure of danger and excitement was not enough to sway Kara away from her law enforcement roots but the added incentive of money, extreme amounts of money, eventually had an effect.

Kara resigned from her previous job and set to work with establishing a new identity for her self.
Name: Terrance Christian, The Man with the Golden Eye

Age: 28

Augments: His right eye has been replaced with a golden orb that can see in the dark, adjust brightness, see heat sources and more. His right arm and hand have also been replaced with a mechanical one, which he leaves uncovered from any form of synthetic skin. The nails on it can be expanded into claws.

Appearance: White male. Medium height with a slight build. He has a neatly trimmed goatee and his short black hair is combed back. He usually wears a black suit, white shirt, black pants and a nice set of shoes, often with a fedora hat and aviator sunglasses. Also wears a golden wedding ring.

Alignment: Terrance takes the role of a negotiator between various companies and governments, as a kind of corporate lawyer for hire. He has a long list of favored contacts and doesn't care much for ideals other than money

Bio: Terrance has always had one true love: Power. A manipulative and scheming sociopath, Terrance loved playing the corporate game doing whatever it took to seal a deal, blackmail, kidnapping, murder or worse. And he hates to lose.

In high school and university, he was often at the top of class, sabotaging those around him in order to stay number one. His first goal was politics but with the future, and money being in corporations, he soon found himself working for Forge, embracing there no mercy policies but grew tired with working for just one company, made himself a Negotiator firm, solidifying deals between countries and companies that were more of an under the table variety.

Terrance found himself too deep in at first and an attempt was on his life that resulted in the loss of an eye and an arm. He got Augmented and soon became known as The Man With the Golden Eye, hunting down and killing the assassin himself.

He continuous to run his firm and for some reason has started wearing a wedding ring, despite no record of marriage being recorded anywhere.

He started at Forge after finishing college, and was employed by Pillar during one of his vacations a few years later. He had his augments put in at 26 for mostly surreptitious purposes, but occasionally they make a dull day a bit more fun.

Maxwell was married once, for a few years, but he and his wife divorced due to mutual differences. She did not want anything of his, not even their child. Maxwell has full custody of his five-year-old son, Donovan, but due to his constant travel, the child lives in Boston with a live-in Nanny. Maxwell will visit his son at any opportunity and would do anything for the child.

Age: 21
Appearance: White male, young and thinly built, he stands at 6' and weighs in about 165lbs. He is always wearing a black pinstripe suit of some sort and carries a cane that he walks on, due to his Augments. He has short brown hair, and pale blue eyes, which are another side effect.
Augments: Two Augments Joshua has, are a blade that forms over his hand [think Prototype, but smaller] and a half failed one in his legs, that was to improve speed. This one was only a partial success as it causes him now to walk with a limp and using the Augment is very painful
Alignment: Forge, On the board of directors
Bio:
[HEADING=1]Healing a Broken Man[/HEADING]

By: Lost in the Void

Joshua awoke and stretched his arms. Today was the day mistakes made 10 years would be repaired. He sat up in his bed and pulled on his suit waiting for him hung beside his bed. He eased into his chair and began the trek to the Kitchen. As he wheeled there, he realized this was his last day in this damned chair. Ever since his first augment at 11 years old he had been trapped in this chair, because of a mistake by a doctor now disgraced. That hadn?t stopped his rise to power, now 21 and a director at the biggest Forge Firm in Canada; he would be able to go to the directors meeting in two months with his own two feet.

The trip to the hospital was a disaster almost immediately. His primary escort was attacked en route to the hospital. Luckily he was on the secondary so only staffs were killed. This caused him to think more in the waiting room. The doctors prepared him for operation, when he whispered in the surgeon?s ear. The man shook his head, and Joshua flashed his cash. That settled the argument instantly. He was put under and the operation began.

Joshua awoke slowly; his body slowly coming out of the numbing state it was in. He had a terrible headache and his mouth felt dry. That?s when it happened; he stretched and his legs moved for the first time in a decade. He felt amazing and stood up, and collapsed from the lack of muscle in his legs. His new leg augments activated and he felt the cool artificial muscle flow over his legs, followed by a searing pain that ripped through his left leg. He stood up only to get himself back onto the bed. The surgeon walked in, clipboard in hand. He explained the side effects of the leg augments binding with the old silicone. This caused the injury to partially heal, however he would always have a limp and using the augments special effects would burn even more. His extra augment, however was an outstanding success, and would allow him to defend himself on his own rather than relying on an escort.
Name: Adrian Carter
Age: 21
Augments: Processor & Link that allows the character to directly interact with machines via a cable, direct input of information into the brain & direct mental communication with others with the augment (If you ever read Forever Peace, essentially the jacks from that) Brain implants that allows him to work ambidextrously, Hormonal release controllers to restrict hair growth & help regulate hormonal balance, Optical enhancer (Fashion statement more than anything else) Dermal implants that act as lights beneath the skin: can show different images on cheeks & jaw.
Appearance: White male, Athletic, Optical enhancers result in red pupils, dark blue irises. Bald necessitated out of jack, usually keeps nine red dots in the shape of a square 1.5 inches[sup]2[/sup] on his right cheek.
Alignment: Works for Tempest as a programmer: hence the jack implant. Believes his company is doing good for humanity.
Bio: Played in semi-professional Augmentation-Free Athletics from 17 until he quit & got the dermal vanity implants after discrimination for being augment-free at 20. His mother comes from a highly military family & ran away from home at 14, when her father scheduled her for strength enhancers. She is very anti-augment, as well as Adrian's father who comes from an Amish-like community who reject physical augmentations, though are not religious.
Adrian is no longer in contact with his parents as they see him as a disgrace.
He lives with three other people & is something of a party-animal. He uses medium-potency drugs the likes of which are akin to ecstasy & binge drinks occasionally. He has no lover & has set his Hormonal control so that he has no desire for one, but enjoys non-relationship based sex.
Name: Brenaya Nakagowa

Age: 22

Augments: Thumb turns to lighter [sup][1][/sup] super sensitive ears [sup][2][/sup] infared and nightvision eyes[sup][3][/sup] steel stomach and lungs(not necessarily steel but she doesn't run out of air and she can consume many dangerous things [sup][4][/sup]

Alignment: None.

Bio: Brenaya was born and raised in a normal home and she seemed to be a normal child, she was a very bright child and easily breezed through school, even college was not much of a challenge. Being an augment doctor was her passion and she was very good at it, she was taken under the wing of a very powerful doctor and the man was very impressed by her skills. She was suddenly overtaken by paranoid schizophrenia and split personality disorder. Within a span of two weeks she had dropped out of college, attacked the doctor that she was working with, left her home and was living on the streets. She now spends her days fighting the voices in her head and trying to stay hidden from the doctors and authorities that are hunting her. A recent string of murders have occurred since Brenaya had found herself on the streets, all with one thing in common, nothing stolen except the augments that the victims had upon their bodies. The police have not figured out that she is a murderer but it will not take them long. She has only been on the streets for about 3 months and that is apparent, she does not look, nor act as though she belongs on the street.

This looks like a possibility, but it's left a bit open-ended. Now that Subliminal's gotten itself into a human, what will it do? Is it good or evil? Do the companies intend to destroy Subliminal or exploit it? And most importantly, where do the players become part of all this?

[sub]No criticism intended.[/sub]

Good questions. I'm going to elaborate on that more when we get into this. But think about the panic that there will be among others with the Biotech. Was Subliminal sent by Tempest to sabotage Forge? The idea is this is just unfolding, it only happened a couple days ago, so the characters are forming their own ideas among the chaos in society.

This will be more character oriented, so they will be brought together when it starts. I don't want to give too much away, but just be sure you have a character that you will like to play. Hopefully that helps a bit.

As I said, it's a possibility. I may join, but I have offline holiday events coming up, so you may not hear from me over a fair bit of time. Plus I have other RPs I'm committed to.

~EDITED~
OK, same, but reviewed.
Name: David Longman
Age: 8 (are we allowed children?)
Appearance: Scruffy blonde hair, blue eyes, skinny, pretty kid. Standard stuff.
Augments: David was the result of a lot of testing. Because of this, Here's a little list of his augments...

His arms can shoot electricity, think... erm, Infamous, but David has a tough time controlling it and finds it extremely painful. It's more like static electricity and sparks being fired out of his arms than anything else.

He can jump really high, really fast. Unfortunately, this mixed with the above ability, so he more or less explodes...

...which leads me to this. He's basically invulnerable, but he feels pain.

He can punch very hard, he has an endless memory, he can even change shape a little.

He also cannot age; Judging by the technology in him, he is an early test subject.

(I know what you're thinking, he isn't a super-ninja, he can't control any of this shit and he's only eight.)

Unfortunately, in testing, several limbs came off, so they were remade as robotic replicas. Some of the flesh was torn off recently, so part of his leg and one of his fingers are like robotic bones right now.

Other side effects of these mean that he is constantly coughing up blood.

Unrelated, he cries a lot.

Alignment: Not consciously aligned to anyone, but he is the result of Tempest testing.

Bio: Left at an orphanage door, he was taken into Tempest and was used to test the effects of certain augments on children. Clones were not used because child clones were at significant more cost than David, who was free of charge.

Name: Nikolia Bilinksi

Age: 27

Augments: Nikolia has developed a suit of power armor which he has named the EN-1, this suit grants him enhanced strength and agility, by use of nanotechnology and light weight synthetic metals he can have this advantage on the battlefield without slowing him down. The suit's helmet has built in thermal and night vision along with a standard filtering system. The downside to the suit is that it provides little protection against fire arms and bladed weaponry.

Small fibers on the interior of the suit connect with his skin upon wearing it, which allow allows the nanites to enter his body and take give him the formerly mentioned advantages.

Basically this without the American flag

Appearance: Nikolia is rarely seen outside of his suit, but when he is he looks very typical. His hair is meduim length and dark brown, same goes for his eyes. His skin has semi-tan complexion and he is semi muscular. He is about 6'1 and weighs about 150 pounds. He will normally wear bright colored shirts and blue jeans when not on a mission.

Alignment: Nikolia is a mercenary, so his affiliation entirely depends on who pays the most.

Bio: Nikolia was born in Croatia in one of the countries more dangerous areas, his parents were both factory workers who spent all their money on make sure Nikolia could attend a good school. By the age of twenty two he had graduated college and had found multiple opportunities in all fields of work, however none of them could satisfy his want for a better life then his parents. He soon abandon his education and decided that he would work as a mercenary, he figured the pay would be better then what most jobs were offering at the time. Nikolia was proven right when he aided in killing a Croatian presidential candidate and was paid half a million dollars upon doing so, with this money he decided to work on an independent project to build a piece of equipment to aid in his missions, he came up with the EN-1. Pleased with his creation he decided to try it out in a few more missions, all of them being successful.

With the time all the time that has passed since the suits creation he hasn't changed his occupation as a assassin, however with these multiple factions waging war he believes that he has stumbled upon a gold mine of opportunity.

Is this alright?

Ok, I am very interested in this but I have a question. How exactly with this be played out? Would I be able to play as a homeless person, would I be able to play and still be integrated into the story? I have a really good concept but I want to know if a homeless person could work in the story.

Thanks! I will start writing my sheet as soon as you answer me.
