Well...I guess anything that results in the world not being destroyed is a good thing, right?

Hardly a 'conspiracy' though. More like a 'possible scenario that was disproved'.

Elenin had a close encounter with the sun on September 10th. Pieces of a comet break off. It takes roughly 8 minutes for the light from the sun to reach earth. Elenin was discovered December 10, 2010. 12 + 10 + 2010 = 2032. 2032 divided by 8 = 254. 254. Remember the 2. The 2 is important. 5 - 4 = 1. 10 + 1 = 11. September 11. 2 towers fell on September 11. It all adds up, man. It's all there.

Terrorists are controlling comets.

I agree. So he/she used the word "conspiracy" a bit incorrectly. Who cares? Can you really not reply to the actual topic of the thread? Is the misuse of the word MUCH more important than something about a comet?

2. The escapist forums have different sections for posting different things. You posted this in the GAMING discussion when it should have been in the OFF-TOPIC discussion.
3. If you didn't mean to use the word conspiracy, simply edit it out of your posts so that you don't look like a tard.

Like this guy. Really? Do you honestly have NOTHING to contribute to the topic itself?

Yeah, I should probably contribute to the topic myself, actually.

Exactly how spectacular will the lightshow from this comet's debris be? Will it even exist, and if so, is there any way of predicting exactly which regions on the Earth will be lucky enough to see it?

Remember back to the craze of people claiming that Earth was going to fall to the comet, Elenin? Well, neither do I, but guess what, they were wrong.
Elenin will make its closest aproach to Earth on a speculative date of October 16th.... If any is left, of course. How close is about 22. million miles. What will rain down will be a small amount of debris instead of a largely intact comet. [sub] read down below for why.[/sub] And its leftovers AFTER THAT will return in 12 million years or so.

Plenty of theories about how this wimpy little comet could wipe us out is quite laughable. The comet itself was quite small, and wasn't even all that bright. These words can be used to describe all conspiracy theorists, but none the less.

1. It most likely lost a lot of mass from just space travel, along with its close encounter with the sun of September 10th. Even stepping as far as to have to deal with gigantic solar storm in August.

This simply means that we avoided a .0000001% chance of armagedon on a hundred million scale.

That's an end of the world prediction, not a conspiracy theory.

Heey, this looks like an awesome game... not sure why it's got "conspiracy" in the name though, it's got NOTHING to do with any sort of conspiracy... I do wonder what the gameplay mechanics will be like since the description is a bit vag... Oooh.. oh wait.. this isn't a game.. silly me, I just assumed it wasn't posted in the wrong forum.

The conspiracy would be if we had a secret survival plan for the rich and powerful when it struck.

The logical truth though, is that eventually we will be hit by an asteroid as an infinite amount of them exist with infinite directions they can go and a singular planet of us exists with only one real axis to rotate around and the inability to move. So EVENTUALLY a big asteroid will probably get close to hitting us and nuking it will just make it hit more places.

I expect to die way before then though.

Would have helped if he/she wasn't also being so smug and condescending in the process. Always makes me laugh how personally people take alternate ideas on how events have gone down or will go down. Like they're desperately trying to convince themselves it's not possible. If an idea is really truly absurd and "stupid", no-one cares.

Does this mean the Goa'uld were behind 9-11?

I have a better idea, forget about them, (I'm guessing your referring to Truthism.com) because even if they do exist, so what? That's the point my mind keeps coming to.
that's one of the things that's always killed me about New World Order conspiracies (alien or terrestrial, human or otherwise). I use the 9-11 conspiracy as an example.

Now, the Illuminati or the reptile men or the Time Lords orchestrated a plot that staged a terrorist attack to scare us into (insert end of conspiracy here). In order to pull this off, it would have taken at least dozens of people, probably more like hundreds, days, weeks or even months to rig those buildings for a controlled demolition, under moderate scrutiny. Either they weren't questioned, or they silenced the questioners.

Said organization is powerful enough to silence police, fire and rescue, not to mention volunteers from halfway across the country. They were powerful enough to silence everyone at or near the Pentagon, too. And let's not forget local, state and federal government workers. Given the lack of substantial criticism, these people must have been reached early, too.

This conspiracy can silence thousands actively, and permeates the highest level of our government at least. They also, evidently, control the news.

Ignore the fact that they can't even shut Rosie O'Donnell up. What the hell ARE we supposed to do? Even if we identify the threat, aren't we pretty much guaranteed to be crushed if we're a threat?

Too boring, didn't read. Never even knew this was a thing. Also, I'm with everyone else on the whole "lern 2 dictionary, OP" bandwagon.

I don't care if you're "quoting Yahoo". You put it in the thread title. Not Yahoo, you.

One should know the difference.
Wow, you really sound this entire thread has been a horrible insult to you.

OT: Most of the replies in this thread reminded me why I'm slowly growing to hate a massive amount of my fellow Escapists. We either need a big paradigm shift or someone needs to call in a specialist head-from-ass separation surgeon. Stop trying to seek out flaws in somebody's thread and then berate them about it post after post, for the love of fucking Christ.

Ah, conspiracies. They're so much fun.

And I bet if there is some kind of global organisation trying to control everything, they actively encourage crazy conspiracy theories.

After all, what better way to divert attention from a real conspiracy, than to promote so many idiotic ones that anyone that so much as mentions a conspiracy is immediately thought of as being an insane nut?

Remember, just because you're paranoid doesn't mean they're not out to get you... XD

Anyway, most conspiracies are genuinely too stupid to bother with.

Some of them are highly improbable, but tend to invoke a lot of metaphysics that conveniently is incredibly difficult to disprove...

(How do you prove the non-existence of magic for instance, if it's effectiveness depends on whether the observers and participants believe it's possible? Nothing screws up the scientific method quite as much as the notion that the beliefs of the experimenter have a direct impact on the results of an experiment.
Granted, Quantum mechanics proves that some things of this nature can be tested for, but it's a real headache to correct for.)

Anyway, enough silliness for one evening...

..Never heard about this until now. Oh well, no concerns, it seems.

Though as much as I'd admit I'd love a little doom-by-asteroid scenario sometime in Earth's history (after watching movies such as Deep Impact and Armageddon), I also realize we humans are also stupidly unprepared to even try to stop a planet devastating asteroid from impacting Earth and killing us all without a chance in the state many of our space programs are in..

Yeesh, I forgot how cranky people get when you say you didn't read something. Let me clarify. My thought process went something like this:

"Sure, doomsday. Yet another giant object in space that's going to hit us... eventually. Probably long after our species has gone extinct. Don't see why this is thread-worthy. I'm going to stop reading now, and comment on the only thing of any interest in this post: the fact that certain people need to learn what 'conspiracy' means, in order to avoid creating posts with misleading names. Here I was thinking Buzz Aldrin punched another moon landing denier in the face, or something; now that is something I would have liked to hear about. But this? This is pointless and dumb."

Y'all happy now? Gonna quit quoting me and calling me a douche? Or did I just make it worse?

Yes, that comet disintigrated and totally missed the Earth, but do you know the REAL reason why?? The SECRET mission that was launched in May by the Underworld OVERLORDS from their CIA launch tubes at the HAARP facility on Alaska?? How they incorporated secret ALIEN technology into their comet-smasher?? And how it was all FORETOLD in the MAYAN CODEX and the book of REVELATION???

CONSPIRACY!!

I don't care that you didn't read it, I got annoyed because you're an example of how much this forum is beginning to suck. Ergo, by berating people for the tiniest of mistakes and just generally declaring threads worthless for no real reason.
To be honest I don't even think a lot of users here realise they're doing it, maybe it's just a conformity thing. Either way, it happens and it's really starting to wear thin.

Hmmm... I did kind of do that, huh? Whoops. That was likely out of disappointment at the thread not being what I had hoped (see previous post regarding face-punches). Though I guess this thread may actually be interesting to some people.

[sub][sub][sub]Boring people... :p[/sub][/sub][/sub]

But for the sake of discussion, I'd always thought the the real reason these forums sucked was because of how immensely self-important everyone was. "I'm special because ______! Love me!"

And the angst. Oh, god, the angst.
