From the article http://www.cnn.com/2009/US/08/03/new.york.jobless.graduate/index.html

NEW YORK (CNN) -- A recent college graduate is suing her alma mater for $72,000 -- the full cost of her tuition and then some -- because she cannot find a job.

Trina Thompson, 27, of the Bronx, graduated from New York's Monroe College in April with a bachelor of business administration degree in information technology.

...

As Thompson sees it, any reasonable employer would pounce on an applicant with her academic credentials, which include a 2.7 grade-point average and a solid attendance record. But Monroe's career-services department has put forth insufficient effort to help her secure employment, she claims.
If I were a judge, I'd laugh her out of the courtroom.
What do you guys think about the out-of-control civil litigation in america? Do you aussies and euros get the same kind of stuff in your respective countries? I am assuming that no, you don't.

I am utterly sickened by the idea that people think they deserve something without having put forth any effort. A 2.7 GPA clearly shows that she is either incompitent or really did not put forth the slightest bit of effort. A 2.7 isn't even a B average...I mean come on. I hope she loses and drowns in legal fees from hiring the lawyer.

Get the fuck out of the courtroom, that's what I'm thinking about it.
Seriously, they gave you all you need to know to do the job, they gave you resources with which to learn.
Surely you can do your own damn leg work for once?

***** has a nerve tbh.

Maybe she's just an idiot. Personally, I think she owes that college 73000 for being so stupid.
It's like watching Judge Judy and some random girls belief taht she didnt owe someone a car because it was destroyed by "an act of god" not her reckless driving.

It's strange seeing an American generalizing other Americans so blatantly. I haven't sued anyone, why is there a plural "s" in the title?

Anyways, the reason she is suing is because she is clearly stupid. Many other Americans sue because taking money is the only thing they can do when people in this country have so many rights to freedom. What might not send someone to jail may end up costing them financially.

yeah our legal system is fucking up our country. hell. doctors have to have multi-million dollar malpractice insurance just so they dont wind up in a cardboard box when they make an honest mistake. thats why a doctors visit here costs about as much as a house payment. Fucking stupid people.

I thought that the title read 'surehappy Americans'. I was expecting to see the path to enlightenment, instead I get this.

I am calling my lawyer now.

Americans are not as "sue happy" as people like to say. Every now and then a stupid lawsuit makes headlines, but what they don't tell you is that they are relatively few and far between and never really go anywhere anyway.

And they few that do go somewhere are reversed on appeal. Like the McDonald's coffee lady. Everyone knew when she won millions, but nobody knew about it when her award got reduced on appeal to only a few thousand which wasn't even enough to cover her medical bill.

Also, it's precisely because we have an easy to access court system that we don't have duels or blood-feuds anymore.

2.7? is that good in college? Christ I'm in the 11th grade and I've got a 4.2 GPA.

anyway her elevator does not go up all the way. Some might "pounce" on her academic credentials but some won't especially in these tough times. She actually sounds a bit stuck up to me.

it's not the college's fault she cant get a job. This economy over here is doing a bit bad and most places arent hiring. It's called shit happens and you cant do much but to deal with it. What's next someones sues a shoe store because they didnt have their size of shoe available?

Forget her GPA, the fact that she's suing her alma mater because she can't get a job makes her the dumbest b*tch in America.

Hell, my GPA sucks, but you don't see me suing people!

[small]...plus, I already have a job...[/small]

As long as it's for a good reason I'll be on the sueing side.

Right now my old man is in the act of sueing our local county office for illegally "terminating" his job. But as for this girl? Probably gonna end in a loss for her.

Maybe she doesn't have a job because she is an idiot. Seriously, people like this shit me off, they're the same as the ones who sue car companies because they think cruise control makes the car drive itself, or redbull because it doesn't actually "give you wings" and they break an idiot leg when they jump off a park bench.

I can only guess that it's a typo. A 3.0 is the bare minimum to get the most basic scholarships. At least, it is around where I live. However, if she's in that much debt then it wouldn't surprise me that she had to pay her way through her entire time at school. Crap, hope she doesn't read this, I could get sued for libel....

Americans who are suehappy would qualify as suehappy americans, just like americans who love jesus could be jesushappy americans. I think not including the "s" in the title would have been more of a generalization.

I didn't feel it was a generalization; litigation is out of control in this country, but obviously not EVERYONE sues.

Just because she sues doesn't man she will get a single penny. A 2.7 is really not that good, not terrible, but not good. And I have never heard of a college class that actually takes attendance after the first few days. She is just a crybaby and wants the world to revolve around her, I hate people like that.

I think this lady needs a reality check more than a paycheck. I wonder how she's supposed to pay for the lawyers if she is unemployed
