I've been yankering for a good stat-based roleplaying game, not sure why, and all the ones I have are just a bit stale by now.

So I come to the escapist hoping one of you guys or ladies can suggest a good RPG. The only thing is that I do NOT play JRPG's I don't say this to incite a flamewar I say this to make sure you don't waste your breath (fingers, whatever) and I do not rule out MMO's

List of RPG's I own or have played (In no order besides what they are on my steam/memory)
Dues Ex
Dragon Age (plus awakening)
Oblivion
Morrowind
Fallout 3
Fallout New Vegas
Mass Effect
Mass Effect 2
Star Wars: Knights of the old republic
Star Wars: Knights of the old republic 2: The sith lords
Champions Online
City of Heroes
Rift
Warhammer Online
World of Warcraft
Dragon Age 2
Divinity 2
Two Worlds (sadly)
Fable 1
Fable 2
Fable 3
Diablo
Diablo 2
Dungeon Siege 3
Fallout
Fallout 2
Fallout Tactics

And thats it, thanks for suggesting a game if you do :D

TL;DR: Need new RPG, no JRPGs, MMO's are OK, List of ones I have above

Uhhh Wow. You pretty much played everything....... Sorry I don't got nothing that isn't already on that list. You could try to mod out one of the Bethesda games and replaying it, if you have not done so already.

EDIT: WAIT!! Witcher 2? That's not on the list. Why not try that?

I find your lack of Planescape: Torment unconscionable. Fix it. Or I could get you a copy if you prefer. Amazing characters, setting, story, writing and so forth.

Arcanum is similarly amazing, and $5 on GOG. Buggy and unbalanced, though, so you'll want a patch or two, which I can direct you to. Fair bit of freedom and exploration, very nice story and incredible amounts of customization. Plus, it's steampunk. Very steampunk. While also being fantasy. Same devs as Fallout 1 and 2.

Lastly, The Spirit Engine 2. Freeware, very well made all around, and available here [http://www.frostclick.com/wp/index.php/2010/11/03/the-spirit-engine-2-near-perfect-rpg-game/]. Don't watch the video, mild spoilers.

I'd recommend pretty much all the old Interplay/Bioware/Black Isle games like Baldur's Gate (1, TotSC, 2, Throne of Bhaal), Icewind Dale (1, 2) and Planescape Torment. Especially Baldur's Gate and Planescape should be on the list of every self-respecting fan of western RPGs.

Edit: Yeah Witcher 2 is also awesome... as are Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines and to a lesser extend its predecessor Vampire the Masquerade: Redemption.

Just out of interest why so opposed to JRPG's, I personally think they are generally of higher standard to WRPG's.

As to actually answer your question though.

Anything by Bioware and you won't go very wrong.
Vampire the Masquerade Bloodlines.

Seriously though you have played nearly all the WRPG's worth playing. If you want good quality RPG's you are going to have to migrate to JRPG's or the future.

Have you played the Baldur's Gate games? Those are pretty good, and you can get them on Good Old Games for relatively cheap.

Drakengard. It's an action rpg, but it is the most messed up game you will ever play

I was thinking about it but Witcher 2 gets at me for two reasons
A: The protagonist is just..eh, I have nothing against ugly people as main characters but something about his long white hair and scars just makes me shudder
B: The combat makes me cringe by looking at it
C: That game will abuse my computer like its a pimp.

Can you even find games that old anymore?

That is a good list. I recommend the STALKER games; easy to get on Steam.

King Arthur (also on Steam) was a pretty good rpg-ish strategy game, if you're into that sort of thing.

Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines is also a really good pick, though unfortunately not on Steam so getting it is going to be complicated.

it is possible, but it's gonna be rough. Unfortunately, none of those are on Steam or a similar service (that I'm aware of). Boxed sets of Baldur's Gate 1 and 2 isn't too bad to find, but good luck on Planescape. You may be able to find electronic copies of all of them (probably for free through torrent sites) but keep your anti-virus on maximum overdrive while searching, just in case.

Yes. Very yes. [http://www.gog.com/en/catalogue]

Cheap, absolutely no DRM to speak of, optimized, and adapted so it'll run perfectly find on windows 7.

So basically they're amazing.

Yes, they should all be available on GOG. Whether you can actually find them at a retail store I can't say - over here in Germany they still are available at larger outlets in games collections or the value games section.

I don't see Neverwinter Nights on that list. Get it. It's old, but still amazing.
seconded, the seises is great if you prefer D&D games(hell it IS a D&D game) and you really cant go wrong with any of them, the combats what you'd expect from a quality D7D esque RPG, and the stories great in just about all of them.

id recommend neverwinter nights 1 as well as the expansions packs shadows of underntide, hordes of the underdark(my favorite) and neverwinter nights 2 (cant recommend the expansions thoe, i never got around t playing them

Jade Empire and Sudeki. Though sudeki looks like an jrpg, it plays as a western one. (And is actually fun to play.)

btw...I have my Republic Commando disc on my left...been thinking of installing it for a few days...but not gotten into it. :D

It is on Steam, at least in the UK. The first one (Redemption?) isn't though.

Somebody beat me to it, but Neverwinter Nights. Can't get much more stats based than D&D and the game actually shows you the dice rolls that it's making 'behind the scenes'. It's got a couple of expansion packs too (proper old school expansions, none of this new stuff that's an equal price to the game for one mission), I didn't enjoy the first one much but I'm currently taking a new character through the origional campaign to play the second one, which sounds much better.

I noticed that Jade Empire isn't on that list...so there is another Bioware RPG for you.

I enjoyed Alpha Protocol, though it didn't get the best reviews.
