Yeah that's right, I avoid any video game with an anime art style because I can't stand the medium as a social justice warrior.

In this case, the OP is lying out of his ass, this is the same poster that posts constantly about anime, and has posted on final fantasy threads about what Japanese games series he has played, so the line about the only Japanese games he's played being Mario games is contradictory.

The lines about being an SJW and liking Phil Fish are also either lies or a poorly worded joke I'm not getting, the OP has posted about being South Korean in the past, so English may be a second language for him. The largest topic he's created is about how he got banned from another forum for going off on another poster with insults and death threats because she was a feminist critiquing anime in a way he didn't like.

Considering a lot of his posts seem to add a weird East versus West attitude to them where he insults Western properties or culture, I'm thinking this topic is a joke, or I'm missing some kind of sarcastic angle here.

Still, there are some good recommendations here, so it's an interesting topic especially with Steam doing an "anime" game sale right now.

Any of the striders. The older games can be emulated, the 2.5D arcade game can be emulated or I think it's on PS2, and the new metroidvania one is on Steam and is also quite fun.

Call of Duty is most anime game. It's super sugoi and kawaii. I especially enjoyed the part where the cute cat girl opened fire in a group of middle easterners with her pink AK-47.

Why not ask your friends for reccomendations? they know you better than us. Games that can be argued to have an anime aestheic are plentiful in a wide range of genres Valkyria Chronicles is an excellent game and gets my recommendation but if you dont like strategy games you wont like it. A recent one I am enjoying a lot is Guilty Gear Xrd Sign but again if you dont like fighters which you probably dont as pretty much every decent fighter ever made is Japanese (two exceptions I can think of are Skullgirls and KI both of which have an arguable anime aesthetic) you wont like this game either.

I think it was last week that he made a thread expressing a desire to not see any feminists involved with anime. The response was...very negative to say the least. Eventually he said that he was going to start acting like a western feminist and be very pro-American. Apparently he thinks that is what the Escapist is like.

That's a very brief summary, but it should suffice. Needless to say, he certainly isn't new to anime, JRPGs, visual novels, and similar mediums. He's unbelievably dedicated to them, even to the point where he has stated he believes he knows more about them than anyone else here.

But anyways, I guess I'll throw in my own recommendations for anyone who wants them:

I've been reading/playing both Katawa Shoujo and Sepia Tears over the last week. As of right now, I've only played Shizune's route (good ending) from Katawa Shoujo, and despite hearing that it was the worst, I actually enjoyed it a lot. Granted, I liked it more for how well it did both Shizune's and Misha's characters rather than the story itself, but that still is a lot more than I was expecting from the game. As for Sepia Tears, I haven't gotten far yet, but outside of the forced humor, it is actually looking to be a decent game. Even the annoying comic relief characters are sort of endearing in their own way. Overall, I'd advise both of them. I'll just say to play Sepia Tears on PC/Mac as the Android version had a lot of annoying graphical errors when I tried it.

After that, I don't have much that I'm sure others haven't already played. I'll just stick around and see what others have to say. I might have to give Long Live the Queen and 999 (and by extension Virtue's Last Reward) a try after all these recommendations. I just hope that I can handle Long Live the Queen, since I generally don't like games that basically force you to lose in order to learn how to win.

This is fantastic, and brings my heart great joy. I do wonder how great the overlap is between hardcore anime fans and serious COD players. Either way, this is the only way to gun down middle eastern terrorists.

Don't worry, losing is part of the fun. Elody's deaths are often quite silly and there's like a dozen different ones. You get achievements for finding as many as you can. There are also more than a few ways. One playthrough is about an hour long, but if you skip the text you've already read they'll be more like 15-30 minutes. So even if you fail, it's easy enough to get back up again and try something else.

Yeah this guy is an interesting character isn't he.

To be fair to him though the Escapist does kind of blow up if anyone says anything thats not 100% liberal. I don't know about it being massively pro American, as far as I'm concerned as a British person I'm a big fan of the states so I'd say go wild with the pro USA stuff. Although I must admit you guys do cheese me off when you complain about Nintendo not giving you a limited version of a game when the standard version is available. Whilst in Europe we just don't get the game at all.

I loved Cripple girls or Katawa Shoujo or whatever its called. I've only played it once through and got the good ending for Hanako (I'm never playing it through again the Hanako romance is my cannon and it will not be messed with), I don't know if I can rank a visual novel as a gaming experience but I rank it among one of the best bits of entertainment I've ever experienced.

I hate to be that guy and I understand if you can't be bothered but if you wouldn't mind do you mind telling me what you thought of Sepia Tears? assuming its a dating sim I'd like to give it a go.

It's a romance, but it isn't a dating sim. Still, it is a reasonably short story that works well as an emotional piece, and the team's attachment to it comes through in every scene. If you have a few hours to spare (I think it took me like 3-4 hours), I'd say that it is still worth picking up.

Tactics Ogre: Let Us Cling Together ( PSP ) is what I'm currently playing, and I can safely recommend it even even with the barrier of entry being rather thick, as it has a really good story and cool sprite art ....... ( Yeah, I FUCKiN' LOVE SPRITE ART!! )

More seriously, Shizune actually isn't a tsundere. I know a lot of people expect her to fill-in that character role, but I think it is just because she's very competitive and rather strict with pretty much everyone.

You have a PS3? Oooh! Grandia!

Grandia is available on PSN, and I highly recommend it. It is an anime-style RPG with a delightfully cartoonish feel to it - lighthearted and fun, yet more than capable of being poignant and suspenseful when it needs to be. The story follows the epic adventure of Justin, an optimistic and likeable youngster who is quite simply on a journey to see the world. This does not keep him from picking up a ragtag crew of followers and a quest to vanquish some great monster that wants to destroy all life, though!

Grandia offers a vast, richly varied game world (the game used to come on two PS1 discs), an epic yet fun story, genuinely likeable characters, awesome music, and a battle system which is hailed as pure genius to this day. It should be noted that the graphics are somewhat primitive, though - but give them a chance, and you'll get used to them within the first hour of gameplay!

That said: Grandia does look considerably better than Final Fantasy VII!

Incidentally, if you're in the USA [EDIT: Or thereabouts], you should have access to the PSN version of The Legend of Dragoon!

Somewhat of a sleeper hit, LoD was considered a bit 'meh' when it first came out - but if you take it for what it is, you won't be disappointed.

So what is it, you ask? Well, it's basically a checklist of JRPG clichés. Brooding hero with a troubled past? Check. Vapid bimbo / healer / primary love interest? Check. Ruined home town? Check. Desert town? Snow town? Fortress town? Blatant, soap-operatic plot twists that you'll see coming from the start? Big, fat check!

It the game's favor, though, it's still incredibly well done. I'm not kidding. You'll see it all elsewhere if you pursue your interest in the Japanese style of storytelling - but you will very rarely see it done BETTER! And for someone who's just decided to see exactly what should be expected from a Japanese RPG, I have no better advice than this: Play The Legend of Dragoon - and you will know!

Oh yeah, and this game is HUGE! It used to come on a whooping four discs - and with a TWO-VOLUME manual! No sh*t.

Fun fact: LoD took three years in the making - during a time when graphics were dramatically improving on an almost daily basis, so the graphical quality is noticeably uneven. Personally, I find this more interesting than annoying, though! (And several of the better CGI cutscenes just might STILL blow you away!)
