Neon Genesis Evangelion is still the best anime I've watched to this day.

Also, check out the movie 'Jin-Roh'.
Seconding Jin-Roh, and motioning for Akira, Steamboy, 8-Man After, Vampire Hunter D and Vampire Hunter D Bloodlust, Patlabor series of movies, Ninja Scroll the movie, and AD Police, which I think are all good animes.

And can't forget any of the Guyver series.

Memories

A feature by Katsuhiro Otomo. Watch it. It's good, really, really good.
I saw that recently, well at least the last 2 movies. Really like Cannon Fodder.
You didn't see the first movie, Magnetic Rose?

You should really try and find that one, because it's easily the best of all three. Seeing that movie will remind you why the late 90's were the golden age of anime. It is absolutely beautiful.

Though, I have to say that Stink Bomb was pretty freaking good to.
I'm planning on watching it, and Stink Bomb was great, with a real funny ending.

Code Geass. Now. Seriously, it's a great anime that, depending on who you ask, may or may not have gone downhill in the second season, but it's still fantastic.

Nadia: The Secret of Blue Water

Another very good old fashion anime. It's by the same guy he made Neon Genesis Evangelion and the seeds that would one day become Asuka are already very visable in Nadia.

I swear, that guy has some woman issues.

Death Notes a good high quality place to start.

For something light hearted, try Ranma 1/2.
Am I the only one who thought Death Note was really boring after a certain part... you know what I'm talking about.

No, that's how most of the fanbase feels.
I mean, don't get me wrong, Up until that point, I though it was fucking brilliant. Near and Mello are just really uninteresting characters.

They were just not half as interesting as L.

Cowboy Beebop
Berserk
Claymore
Samurai Champloo
Ranma 1/2

Movie: Sword of the Stranger
I watched Sword of the Stranger, and it was AWESOME. Some wasted plot though.

And I wouldn't recommend Berserk the anime, because it ends in disappointment, while the manga doles out awesome page by page.

Agreed,
L was one of the most interesting characters in an anime ever, the battle between Light and L was brilliant... then thathad to happen.

Azumanga Daioh and Haruhi-chan Suzumiya because you watched K-On (slice of life). Probably Potemayo as well.

Shakugan No Shana and Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha (not your average magical girl show) if you want some action.

Wolf's Rain (my top favorite!)
Ouran High School Host Club
Death Note
Fruits Basket (very cute but the manga's better)
Inukami
Devil May Cry (yes, there is an anime)
Elfen Lied

That's all I can think of at the moment.
Extremely good list. Check out Code Geass, Utawarerumono, Arjuna and Hellsing.

one popular suggestion ive had has been Deathnote.
That show is da hizzle.

It is a shame, however, by the time you get to about episode 15, you've seen the best the show has to offer.

That's because BONES are monsters, and anything they touch turns to gold. That had some of the best fight scenes I've seen in an anime in recent times (Naruto takes it for me).

Anywho...

Noir

Gundam Wing

Baccano!

Trigun

You know what, screw the list because otherwise it'll lose itself in the sea of existing ones.

Noir is my series recommendation. It's a great anime with a captivating soundtrack and a great story.

Perfect Blue is my movie recommendation. It's a twisted tale that I can't say much about, except that it's definitely worth watching and you won't regret it.

It just doesn't get enough love. It's a great anime series that others should watch.

And finally if you aren't a member already, we have an anime group on this site. Check it out if you wish.
