I think they're legally required to at this point, since they promised a roadmap of content. Past that point though...
I'm curious as to when a "promise" becomes a legal requirement.

For example, Anthem promised at least 3 "Acts", but only delivered one before ceasing development.

Concord got away with it by giving everyone a full-refund.

I'd wager that Suicide Squad already had most of the post-launch content completed - I think all of the post-launch characters were leaked just after launch. And as for the costs, I can't imagine it is too expensive to keep a server online for <1000 people, and a skeleton crew to make sure that there is nothing gamebreaking.

I think it mostly comes down to following through with your promises. Live service games are sold based on the prospect of post-launch support. if you say that you will support the game for at least a year, and then ditch it after the first month, who is going to show up for your next Live Service experiment?

Aww, you beat me to it. Yeah, Anthem had grandiose promises and that didn't keep it from getting taken behind the woodshed. I wonder if Suicide Squad had more content already nearly finished and they're pushing it out to try to squeeze every dollar they can from the game.

I don't get why Luke is so upset or surprised about the idea of a token good (or as close to good with lite gray shaded anti heroes) teammate in the suicide squad. That idea is nothing new. It has been done multiple times before. It's just a matter of execution.

Both live action movies, and the second animated movie, Hell to Pay, have one or two token good teammate(s). What matters is the execution. The game really hasn't executed anything good at all though.

I think it's just layers upon layers of pandering and irony. I'm more bothered by the fact that there's already characters that fill this persona more or less. Though the more I'm hearing I'm like "Is this even a villain?". What makes suicide squad "cool" is that it's all loser villains. I'm not sure I understand how this kid fits in.

...omg this kid is insufferable.

@FakeSympathy, it's dead, along with All of the other projects WBG decided to axe, because SS was such a colossal failure.

The report states that "Games revenue decreased 48% [excluding foreign currencies] due to the prior year release of Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League compared to no releases in the current year quarter, as well as higher carryover from Hogwarts Legacy and Mortal Kombat 1 in the prior year."

Which all checks out. Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League actually lost Warner Bros $200 million, and that was back in June 2024. It's hard to get an exact timeline, but given the game wrapped up its final proper update in January of this year, it's safe to assume it's lost a touch more cash.

This may surprise some single-celled lifeforms at the very bottom of the Mariana Trench. (They only read The Verge down there.)

And just like that, history repeats itself. WBG is probably gonna think "Welp, guess people HATE SUPERHERO GAMES!!!!!"

Maybe it's for the best; God-forbid we see another live-service superhero game again

Despite games like Spider-Man (PS4), Miles Morales, and Ghost of Tshushima selling like hot cakes, and both franchises have sequels. Then there's Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3, Guardians of the Galaxy, the Marvel vs. Capcom Collection, Marvel Rivals, the new Marvel Cosmic Invasion coming out this year, and Rita's Rewind from earlier this year. Do those not count for those shit heads?

Those games likely wouldn't count to the executive at the top. Its doubtful most even know of those games. Its worth pointing out that executives and shareholders aren't part of, and likely don't understand the medium. Some executive might see the use of Ghost of Tsushima as a pr boost or system seller but by and large they likely hold such titles in contempt. When seeing a good non live service game that sells well, they likely don't see the strong sales and instead only see the money it isn't getting due to not being a life service game.

I don't think executive see live service and non live service games as something that should be compared and contrasted to form their strategy. I think they see the live service as the thing they desperately want to do and non life service games as an obligation they might not even want to do without a strong brand name attached to it.

I'm just going to sit here and be amused that from birth to death, this game only garnered three pages' worth of discussion on these forums. (And that's including comparisons of the game's Superman to John Cena.)
And speaking of John Cena, it's crazy to think that there were two Suicide Squad movies in the zeitgeist at that time, one really bad one and one quite good one, and they still managed to make a less likeable main cast than the bad movie had.

SS 2016 is not even that bad. It's a 6/10 movie, that becomes a 7/10 movie with the extended cut. For such a bad movie, it did gangbusters with the teenage and early 20s crowd. Helps with the PG-13 rating. Funny story, most people (be they teens or people between 20-50+) I met in real life still love the first movie, and were shocked to learn there were those online who hates the movie.

  • Suicide Squad 2016 is a 7/10
  • Birds of Prey is a 9/10
  • Suicide Squad 2 is a 10/10
At least we got two seasons of Peacemaker, so I am not complaining.

The "bad" one is an Academy Award winning movie.
