I mean, a lot of stuff for apocalypse type scenarios really just boil down to "human kind fucks itself over but good this time". Nuclear fallout, grey goo nano-geddon, global warming turning everything into Kevin Costner, Large Hard-on Collider, take your pick.
On a larger and more universal scale, a decent size asteroid would fuck us over big style.
On an even larger scale, entropy (if that qualifies as a universal force) will fuck everything over in the end. "All things tend to disorder" is like THE universal law.

I'm sorry but humanity for all its flaws will not destroy the planet or end all life, even if we fucked the shit out of the world, some humans would survive and some part of the world would most likely be left intact
actually THE universal law is that all things seek to be balanced, it is one of the basics of all reactions, they seek to wind down to a less violent or energetic state, its just that, to get there some pretty crazy shit has to happen.Leodiensian said:

There were worries that the first nuke would literally set fire to the atmosphere in a pyrotastic cascade. Obviously, things didn't quite turn out that way, but it's a cool image.
