That's usually been the explanation in the various incarnations of the character, and if they had left it at that I'd have been perfectly fine. The problem is that Man Of Steel went to great lengths to explain that Clark gets superpowers from our Sun because he grew up on this planet and his Kryptonian physiology developed over the 20+ years absorbing the radiation.LadyRhian said:Same reason Superman has them- Earth's yellow sun, which apparently supercharges Kryptonian muscles. Under a Red Sun, Superman would only have the strength of an ordinary human. I wonder if he'd be more powerful under a white or a blue sun, but as far as I know the powers that be never explored that.Diddy_Mao said:It's a flawed movie to be sure with at least one glaring plot hole that I can't rightly ignore. (Why do Zod and his men develop Superpowers?)
Zod and company had only been on Earth for a few hours at best.
