Superman Could Get Dark Knight Treatment

Superman is not interesting at all.
He really has no big characterization, he is invincible, he is so powerful that nothing can phase him. Not much in the way of dramatic tension, it would be like, say making a movie of a battle between God and Hitler.
I say leave superman alone, and focus on characters that are maybe a tad bit relatable, and I dunno, could get hurt, die, or at least have cool gadgets.

And I don't mean to bash superman, I don't hate him, but I find him a very dull character.

They should make a movie adaptation of Red Son.

That would be an interesting new take on Superman

Hooray. Another franchise gets "re-imagined". I guess this is what we should expect for the foreseeable future. How long before they re-imagine Lord of the Rings where the Hobbits aren't quite as merry and innocent as they've come to be known. Bilbo's experiences in The Hobbit will be a dark backstory that explains his racist feelings towards Dwarves.

Continue on Returns. Returns is set after Superman II, deleting III and IV from existence. This is a good thing. Because that is the Superman a lot of people want to see. Or at least, the Clark Kent. You can definitely change the style around for this movie and class up the story by miles. For instance, you could kill off Supes kid. This would make an excellent segway in to a more Smallville-drama-esque story. Or even a heavy story like The Death of Superman or something like that.

Why?
Why does every superhero think they need to follow Batman now?
I'm getting a little tired of all this dark grittiness.

But... Superman's style has never been "dark and angsty". I hope that's not the direction they're taking him.
That was my thought on it. Darker and Edgier doesn't exactly fit the personality of Clark. I'd hate to see what they'd do to Captain Marvel.

It wont work. No matter how hard they try, everyone will just notice that he wears underpants on the outside. And unlike batman you can't really change the uniform.

I never liked Superman. I hate stories about characters who are inhumanly good and beyond all reproach to the point of being one-dimensional. It worked great in Iliad and Odyssey, when they were spoken aloud and you couldn't get too complex with characters because you had to do it all from memory, but storytelling has evolved quite a bit since then. And even Odysseus wasn't a completely perfect individual.

Here here.

Actually I think I'm the only person on the planet who didn't mind Superman Returns.
I thought Brandon Routh did a good job, Spacey was the one who really pissed me off.

Sure the plot wasn't amazing but the movie played out like a typical Superman comic. Giant sky fortress of Kryptonite? Sounds pretty accurate to me.
Superman's writing hasn't always been great in comics (or movies really) anyway so I don't know why people had such high expectations for it.

I'll be glad to see a Remake with Nolan on board. Recipe for success.

On a side note I liked Superman Returns WAYYYYY more than X-3.

Meh... I have a feeling Superman would be eye bleedingly boring no matter what sort of dark and edgy tone they used. I've just always found him to be a completely crap character.

Sorry for double post but I have to comment on this.

UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES should it be ANYTHING REMOTELY CLOSE to being like Smallville.

Smallville uses cheap tactics for it's drama, and knows it's doing it. You know in every single episode someone will find out Clark is Superman, then they will conveniently forget or die or disappear. Coupled with cheap cliffhangers and a myriad of bad villains and bad Teen WB writing, you can pretty much shoot the movie in the foot right now. It works on TV cause it only lasts for 45 mins, and people sometimes like mindless drama like that. But 2+ hours of that and I think I'd vomit.

The drama =/= the writing.

So you didn't see Iron Man, then?

Because the comic books are actually far darker and angstier (is that a word?) than the movie. And that's the last major superhero movie that came out besides The Dark Knight, isn't it? Well, there was Wolverine, but that was so crappy I can't even tell if it was supposed to be dark and angsty or not. Oh, and Hulk, which was pretty much on the same level as the TV series, so not dark and angsty either. Okay, maybe a little, but nowhere near TDK.
you know they didn't use to be like this 20 odd years ago. everything is put through the angst-o-meter and "realistic" treatment, even comic books and their movies, and the results border on the ridiculous.

case in point: dragonball evolution.

He was one of the only decent things in that movie, not that it's saying much.

Have you tried picking up the latest Blue Beetle? It's quite charming and not full of all that brooding and angst.
