I am in the mood for playing something that's lets you pretty much have superpowers. Doesn't need to be exactly that but close enough would work. Something where you are just ultra badass. Something like Saints Row 4/Gat out of Hell or even Prototype[footnote]I've only played the first, heard the second one wasn't that good feel free to suggest it, if I've heard wrong.[/footnote] or similar.

What I'm NOT exactly after are games like Morrowind or Fable: TLC where you can get ridiculously powerful but by leverageing the game mechanics. 1. I'd rather not do that to get powerful 2. The powers would come later on, I'd rather just focus on them.

Any suggestions are welcome. And yes, I know of Infamous.

EDIT: I've got a PC and PS3 at my disposal. As well as an Android phone and Tablet, if it matters, I'm not actually averse to mobile games, if they can fill the criteria.

SAINT'S ROW!!!.....damn it! I presume you have already played the criminally underrated SR4 and Gat out of Hell since you mentioned it...

If you missed it somehow, Crackdown is a very fun superpower game. You do have to "level it up" but if you focus on it, it doesn't take long before you're leaping tall buildings in a single bound and throwing cars at purse snatchers. Crackdown 2 is also acceptable but it is not nearly as good.

Every review I've read seems to hate it but I am having a TON of fun with Deadpool. My guess is that if you are aware of Deadpool, the game is good and if you are not, you'll think it's OK at best. I'm finding the game hilarious personally. Probably not quite the superpowers you're looking for but still...

In that vein, Metal Gear Rising is another one of those types of games (so not superpowers but you do get to be an ultimate badass killing machine, which is a blast). It is cut from the same cloth as Metal Gear where it deals with some relatively serious issues while still having some fun. You do not need Metal Gear knowledge to play but it sure does help.

Saint's Row 4 might be the ONLY modern "superhero" game I've played I felt was worth a damn. And games these days are pretty good about containing/mitigating player power. They're more about making you feel vulnerable than the opposite.

Hmm. Just Cause maybe? The second one? Or third one if you're patient?

To add to Guppy here, the second one isn't a "traditional" superhero but you get guns and a rope/parachute/grappling gun so it's kind of like The Punisher if he got Spider Man's web powers.

Another plus is it was just the free game of the Xbox Month thing so you may already have a free copy if you pulled the trigger on that.

I just got back from Vegas a day ago so...what's the opposite of saving up? Because I'm that right now :(

Yep, and seeing them on sale today on Steam made me want more of them. They were both super fun.

Hence why I was asking for more. Prototype was alright, as well, but felt a bit empty. And quite grind-y - you go and grind evolution points (or whatever they called the XP in that game) in order to afford to get the next upgrade which costs, like, thousands, if not a million [footnote]can't remember, but you had to just do generic stuff over and over again[/footnote] and some of the upgrades were really stupid, others were worthwhile...only you don't know until you unlock them.

I ended up cheating my way into XP when I saw how much everything costed. The game was already easy at that point, I just wanted some more cool moves.

Unfortunately, I would have missed it because I don't have an Xbox 360 :(

No, I don't think it's the superpowers I'm after. And oddly, I got a generally good vibe out from what I've heard about Deadpool. I'll be getting it at some point, just haven't felt like playing it yet.

Well, I'll have to see about number 3, but 2 was good. I've not played it, but my housemate did. It's weird, though - I really liked what I saw from the game...only, I never found myself wanting to play it. It somehow didn't "click" for me. I'm in a weird situation where I can say I love the game, but never really want to play it.

As I said, I'll have to see about the next one.

I've gone through that one, actually. I'm not a fan, so to say.

Ouch...cause except for Saints Row, Crackdown was probably the best super hero game available this gen.

Can you toss into the OP what you do have? I presume it's PC and PS3 (since you mentioned Infamous...and wasn't Prototype a console exclusive or am I drunk again?).

While Prototype 2 did miss the mark a bit, it's still an enjoyable game. The simplification of combat can sort of be explained by the fact that the new protagonist fights differently. Heller's more of a heavy hitter with fewer moves, whereas Mercer was more agile with a greater range of attacks.

To be honest, it's the best we could have hoped for from Activision.

Prototype is on PC, too. Infamous was a console exclusive, however. I did mention the latter but I've not played it...yet. I do intend to, though - just before I made the thread I started thinking about games similar to SR4 and I came up with Prototype, which I've played, and then Infamous, which I hadn't. Since I couldn't think of anything else, I posted the thread.

I've got a PC and PS3 - I'll also add these to the OP.

Is the structure of it similar to the first game? As in, sandbox-y with few variations of side objectives and main missions which you activate as you want? If it's that and it has cool powers, I might give it a go.

Yeah that's pretty much it. They simplified the upgrade system too from what I remember, but considering the nature of the game that didn't detract too much. They definitely improved upon the world itself in the game. Everything feels a bit more alive than in the first one. You also might want to read this Steam thread if you get it for PC: http://steamcommunity.com/app/115320/discussions/0/864945276448350287/

I think I'm going to break the mold of usual answers a little bit here and go with Bioshock. The first one. It has the most satisfying gameplay of them all IMAO. And I really miss jamming a needle into your arm quickly to inject pure liquid energy. Gods... So satisfying.

I'm going to break the rules (mainly because I don't know many games of that style) and recommend Saints Row 4, because you can play it more than once, with different characters, like a large tattooed Asian woman voiced by Nolan North. I'd also suggest Xmen: Destiny, but only if it's less than $20. In it, you can play a small Asian woman not voiced by Nolan North, unless he really is that good.

Look up either the LEGO Batman games or LEGO Marvel Super Heroes... especially if you like LEGO...

Other than that, there's Kingdom Hearts 1.5 and Kingdom Hearts 2.5 where your weapon's a "superpower", I guess...

You can mod the PC GTA games or original Crysis to give yourself some awesome, superhero-feeling abilities. Crysis already has them with the suit, but the energy restrictions mean it's not viable to just avoid your guns and just punch/throw everyone through walls. There are settings in the config files you can change to reduce energy consumption for each suit setting, increase your punch power, etc. It's very fun to leap onto a roof and smash your way through, neck lift the poor sod inside and through him through the wall. Or to cloak into an enemy strongold and then decloak in front of some dude and punch him through a wall.

If you don't mind a more linear experience then The Force Unleashed makes you feel quite powerful but, as far as telekinesis-heavy games go, Psi-Ops, Second Sight and Destroy All Humans! are much more satisfying. I can't vouch for the PC versions though (and I only know Psi-Ops definitely has one) but if you still have a sixth gen console they're well worth playing.

Maybe try out Warframe? There is a point where you get rather overpowered, but being an F2P theres a long road to get there.

StarWars: The Force Unleashed.
It is pretty much you running around beating the living shit out of everything, with superpowers!
For the Nintendo series there's ViewtifulJoe for GameCube and Wonderful101 for WiiU.

Yeah the Force Unleashed is a great recommendation. If you don't care about story, the second one makes you even more powerful than the first. To me, TFU still has the best implementation of using telekinesis for battle in video games.

Far Cry 3 is quite an empowering experience, though not strictly of the "super" kind. You're basically Jungle Batman (i.e. Rambo).
