The story so far:
I recently was convinced by a friend to get a PS3 with MAG. After much contemplation, I decided to keep my 360 and throw the Wii into Gamestop's endless chasm of friendly helpful staff and good prices.
So I went to Ballincollig, bought my PS3, asked for MAG with it, out of stock, asked if it was in any other Gamestops within a 20-minute drive, no, but today's delivery would come in to this GS shortly, I wait around a bit, buy some other games to sustain the PS3 (which hangs by my side weeping for MAG), delivery comes in, MAG not there, I buy it a week later.
So after starting out with Killzone 2 and enacting some hardcore assault-rifle sniping, I emerge impressed but wanting a change, so I pop in LittleBigPlanet. After only the tutorials, I rose to my feet and wept. To think I could have been doing this in 2008! I played some user levels, made some strange rocket ships and giant rocket-propelled skateboards with proper body kits, and constructed a fiendish puzzle for my friends to be amazed at.
I downloaded the Heavy Rain demo and was blown away.
Played Uncharted and loved it.
To think of how I badmouthed the console makes bile rise in my throat.
So onto discussion:
Have any of you swallowed your gaming pride big time? Any "Oh the wasted yeeeears!" moments to talk about?

I tend to not make sweeping decisions about consoles, much less take pride in them.

I had to swallow my gaming pride once when I repeatedly got my ass kicked in Def Jam: Fight for NY at a party. I was really good at the game and usually beat my friends, but that time I got my ass handed to me by a girl that tried it for the first time. In my defence, the character I played with sucked.

I've never had to swallow my pride because I've never expressed an opinion that wouldn't take billions of dollars in scientific funding to disprove.

I've not had to because I'm not a dick about things I've never tried.

Well since I first played WoW anyway, since then I've decided to try things before I say they're shit.

I actually just did a write up about an adjacant issue [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/9.180830]. I don't think that I've had a similar experience except for maybe HAVING to wait for certain things financially. I haven't been able to afford a PS3 until recently, but was never "against" it.

I said I would never play, much less like any game created exclusively for a Sony console back in 2005, when I was tired of getting burned by them.

And then...HEAVY RAIN!
Shadow of the Coloussus! You missed out. Heavy Rain is quite good though.

In a scence... These PS3 titles are over me like them PS2 one's were some time ago.
But thanks to my mates when i had gotten my Wii, my Gamecube was a decent trade for an unhealthy-sounding PS2 lite-thing.
I spot my friends with the PS3 and things like MetalGear to make me drool and all I can say is:
Damn I'd like to get my teeth in that game. But no wayyy am I buying those things.
I also love my xbox360 :)

I did. My PS2 broke FOR THE LAST TIME when that game came out. I was too bitter to notice it. Although I did like Ico.
You and your console abuse. If you have the means to play that game I would find a way to do so. Are you saying you now own a PS3?

After the N64 there was a big hiatus in my console gaming. I vowed never to touch a console again and swore allegiance to my pc. However, when a friend showed me MGS3: Subsistence on his PS2 I was immediately sold and now I never play pc anymore (or at least, no new titles, just some oldies). Strange how that comes about.

Most of the time I don't have to swallow my pride as I never make a big statement e.g. It's shit!! until I have played or at the very least watched someone play the game. I also don't care for console wars as I just think I have a ps3, wii, and a pc but that doesn't mean I have to badmouth the 360 as I think it's a good system with some good games. I just preferred the ps3.

No actually, I'm pretty open minded about my gaming. The only thing I can think of that I would have to swallow my pride to do would be to play Kingdom Hearts after I bashed how silly the very idea was years ago. I'm willing to bet I would love it too.

I have a PS3, and you know what, it was a paper weight, until I got heavy rain. Roll on Final Fantasy Versus XIII, and hopefully Kingdom Hearts 3 further down the line.

As far as console goes if the terrible ports us PC lot have to put up with are any indication, console games are about as enjoyable as faceplanting in an angle grinder. That said, gaming has always been a somewhat moody things. Every now and again you will get a complete gem of a game, like Doom was to the FPS genre, and then you will have a complete stream of utter and complete shite copycat games. This happens with both PCs and consoles of course so lets not fall into big generalisations here.

This leads me onto the ancedote I wanted to share -

As far as swallowing my pride is concerned, I have a somewhat different experience that may serve as a counterpoint to the 'it turned out to be really good' experience in the original post - when Mass Effect was still in development I was really excited to see Bioware in the science fiction genre again - Knights of the Old Republic for all its flaws was probably one of the best games I have ever played and it sits reverently on the same vaunted shelf as the Ultima games which I always had a soft spot for, and some of the gold box TSR gold box games. So imagine my excitement if you will, to hear that Bioware was making its own science fiction game. I just about wet myself with anticipation. And then I got it for PC, had to tear out my old graphics card and put a new one just to play it, and then I was treated to what was a really good story which captivated me promptly until I had to play the first shooting sequence and my character was too busy humping cover to do anything effectual and the controls being the poorly mapped console port they were I was left having to fight with the game to the death to accomplish anything. I still enjoyed the story but the game aspect of the thing especially with the control issues was a constant downer. And what, you may ask, is the swallowing my pride aspect of the story? Well, for those of you that can't have figured out by the preceeding, I loved the premise of the game. I was frothing waiting for it to come out, defending it cluelessly against everyone who said the PC version would clearly suffer from porting issues because I so blindly wanted it to be great.

And this isn't to say that it wasn't somewhat of a good game - I wouldn't call it great for the reasons I mentioned - but I certainly ate some dirt over some of the comments I made towards certain people about porting issues, that much is for sure.

Nope. The PS3 had issues plain and simple. I will not apologize for pointing out its problems. Sony worked hard to fix said issues (and created some new ones in the process).

I never liked the PS2, but then I saw Shadow of the Colossus and I borrowed a friend's ps2 just for the occasion of playing it. I will never say never again!

What problems were they then?

On topic. Not at all, the only game I wanted to play on 360 was a bit of a let down.
