Ah, yes. Because, as we all know, the best way to learn from past mistakes to PRETEND THEY DIDN'T HAPPEN.

Also, what is it with the Axis powers from WWII and hating this game? When will Italy get in on this?

Maybe, this time around, they felt a little bit more careful when gleefully dismembering their former world war buddies.

Then again, I live in germany, I don't get to play the game in any language other than german (says Steam), with the US/UK versions being banned from activation and the PEGI version maybe getting blacklisted in the future (possibly meaning no updates/DLC).

Did I miss some kind of subtle undertone whilst watching that anime!?

On topic: While it sucks for Japan...huzzah, I live in England! Seriously, just accept what happened and move on!

what with all that unpleasantness back in the 30s and 40s, but is this an issue for Japan as well?
Japan was directly involved in all that unpleasantess, they also got two rather large bombs dropped on them for their troubles.

I can see how Swastikas would dig up some uncomfortable moments in history for Japan.
It seems fair enough to not want it mentioning, although why it's okay in the subtitled one is a bit weird. Maybe their's no Japanese spoken word for Nazi?
It's no sillier than the furore over the 'not Taliban' in Medal of Honor to me.

Did Japan censor the original Nazi Zombies in World at War?

OT: Ive been exposed to swastikas in games since Medal of Honour and strangely enough, Ive picked up none of their ideology.

The Axis powers were doomed to be parodied and shot ad nauseum after they lost WW2. Man up and shoot em in the head Square Enix.

what is the point?
There are Nazi Zombies in the game. They got censored in Japan and in Germany. Finally the question over what was censored is answered XD.

Brutal and grotesque portrayal of dismemberment? Will MG: Rising even be released in Japan?
Haha, yeah. What'll happen to Rising? My guess is that all the enemies will be replaced by giant melons.

It makes me mad when I think of all the horrible shit Japan did in WWII. Like bury POWs alive, eat POWs, treat them like sub-human pieces of shit and randomly beat and kill them. If you were a Japanese POW, you had a 40% chance of surviving. Collapsing of exhaustion when they sent you on continuous marches was punishable by death.

It boils my blood when they are so quick to erase any mention of what they did. It's extremely disrespectful to those who died.

As a result, the "brutal or grotesque portrayal" of dismemberment will be either toned down or removed completely from the Japanese editions of the game.
They also added that there will be schoolgirls dancing and being shot.

OT: Lol?

Why are there Swastikas is a game during the cold war?
Possibly with the religious aspect in the region. It takes place in areas such as Vietnam and Laos, so it may pop up on some temple, if there is one. Never played it, probably won't so that's as far as I'll say.
Nazi zombies sometimes have swastikas on them, that's where it comes from.
Hmmm. I wouldn't have thought of the Zombies in Black Ops to be Nazi's immediately. But that's probably the reason. *Shrugs* It seems like every country has some odd censorship thing.

Germany's laws regarding WWII symbols / etc make a lot of sense, they encourage historical revisionism such as "oh the Nazis weren't so bad".

Japan's reasons on the other hand are bullshit, they are trying to whitewash their history, they refuse to admit the things that were done in the second world war; there was a big stink here in Australia back in the 90s when it came out they weren't teaching anything that painted Japan in a bad light in school, frankly it disgusts me.

Understandable if your grandparents were Nazis, others aren't as tolerant. (or as I suspect 'lucky' as your grandparents, if they can so easily 'get over it')

Personally I'm not gonna slap mine with a "get over it!", so their families were killed, pfft... Harden the f*** up, yeah?

I don't think the Swastika's should be removed, especially since it is simply a presentation of history, but I can understand wanting to remove that bit from their past.

This is one of the many things I don't get about Japan. You show young girls being naked in anime, you show girls getting raped by 4 eyed freak with tentacles, and you even have a game about raping. Yet no Nazi symbolism which your country at the time chose to be on the side of as far as I know and you censor porn, ummm WTF?!

My grandparents were actually Jewish so yeah..it wasn't really a cake walk for them and still isn't but they are able to accept what was done, was done. That simple. Shying away from the past doesn't make it go away any better. Might as well leave it in.

yeah i know i am not the first to say it and i won't be the last but we just need to get over the "swastika". i know many people who were in ww2 and they mostly feel that it is part of history and should be shown in all its forms. by removing it, it has been braught to our attention and we are giving in attention we need to just get over it.

Censoring on gives a taboo symbol more power and trying to forget only increases the chance of old tragedies happening again. Personally I'm all for restoring it to it's original meaning as a spiritual symbol except for the version that the Nazis used(red background, white circle with black symbol).

No, you didn't miss anything in the anime. As I recall, the anime was Nazi free, but the manga... well, Nazis were the main antagonists.

On topic: Well, Germany always had the tendency to remove the swastika, but why Japan suddenly decided to remove them is somewhat strange.
