conspiracy much? wouldn't be hard to pay some ex-gf a few hundred K to accuse him, then again he does have kind of a rapey face. who knows, hopefully if its true he'll get busted if not the case will fall apart.

Huh. This broke on the escapist before slashdot. Color me impressed.

Also, this guy needs to learn that if you're going to go after the rich and powerful you had better keep your nose clean, or you will fry.
But not Faux News [http://www.foxnews.com/world/2010/11/18/sweden-seeks-detain-assange-rape-case/]!
I'm sure they were pretty happy.

I can't say I'm a fan of this guy. He is, after all, releasing documents that will no doubt end up getting people killed (Names of informants in active warzones that can be read anywhere...), but I have to respect the ideology behind it of forcing our leadership to be 'open' about the reality of events.
AFAIK they redact names where it could get people killed.

I don't know if I'm more disturbed by these false allegations or the people who feel he "deserved it" for messing with corrupt and secretive nations

i don't think anyone's saying he deserved it, just that something like this could be expected with the business he's in.

I heard a bit about this on NPR this morning. They said the most serious allegations, the rape charges, have been dropped (though I guess there's still something else against him?). They also said when he moved he gave his contact info to Scotland Yard, which is why Britain sees no reason to turn him over to Sweden. That along with something about the paperwork not being filled out correctly. (there was a really good quote from someone about how this has turned from prosecution into persecution, but I didn't catch the name of the guy who said it)

I was kinda half asleep when I heard it, though, but I would encourage people interested in this story to check out other sources. :p

Odds of being a rapist: very small.
Odds of being the person who exposes the side of many countries that they don't want seen: very small.
Odds of being both: very very small.
Odds of being accused of one while being the other: very very high.

The sad thing is I don't think anyone actually believes this could even be a real rape case so I worry it won't be taken seriously, which would be terrible if it is real... even though it obviously isn't.

I'd agree with you if it wasn't for the fact that he admits sleeping with the women. While they might want the attention I doubt they're being paid off by the US Goverment.

Oh he deffinatly deservied it only because I think he actully deluded himself into thinking he was not going to faces cconsequences for his actions and that he was immune to Us replisal and I think its hilarios how wrong he is. Just becaus eht eU.S gov is in the wrong(witch they are some of the time) does not mean that he is in the right.
how the hell can you think its right for governments to collude in destroying a man and company who have done nothing illegal? seriously what is wrong with you people.

aside from your complete inability to spell properly anyway? seriously invest in a spellchecker.

OT: It's funny because the evidence against him is apparently laughable.

To be fair WikiLeaks so far has not been responsible for any deaths, and before all recent releases has asked the government to work with them to help conceal cases which might risk individuals. They also themselves spend a lot of time trying to omit dangerous identity problems.

I don't know if he is a rapist, but I sure hope not. I like WikiLeaks to be honest.

Sorry it generally do have a spell checking program but at the time I was posting this I was on a different comp. When it comes down to it in my opinion Illegal does not really matter. Assangue has dealt damage to the US government in a way that they feel is unacceptable and now they are damaging him back it is really is that simple

now we can debate the right and the wrong of that all day but in my experience when you hurt someone they tend to want to get even. if hes not a moron he knew that this was how it was going to end for him and prepared for it. If he had no idea this was going to happen then my above statement would apply.
so lets say someone deletes everything on my computer (or does something else legal but damaging to me), its cool for me to just go round and beat the shit out of them or do whatever else to get revenge? no of course that would be ridiculous, so why do we accept that its fine for a government to do it? seriously really think about why that is acceptable behaviour to you. this is how totalitarian dictatorships act, not democratic nations.

im pretty sure he does know that this sort of thing can happen, he spent years creating encryption systems to help people who have to work in places like china and north korea where this shit is pretty common place. id imagine he just didn't expect it from america and certainly didn't expect the rest of the world to just sit by and let it happen.
