That isn't the problem. That's the militia they have. As long as they're sane, they won't do much. Besides, everyone has a gun to stop a weirdo if they go nuts.

Censorship is what I hate MOST out of everything. The more they try to crack down, the more things will get banned as obscene, until only Sugar Happy Funland 3 is released.

So you think it's only coincidence that switzerland is second to the US for gun death in industrialised countries? Forgive me if I feel that than the institution of an age ranking system on video games is a lesser issue.

And yes, censorship is horrible, but saying that an independent authority should create the age certification rather than PEGI is not an unreasonable argument in my opinion. I agree that banning games outright is wrong however, an adult should be allowed to expose themselves to what they wish so long as it does not harm others.
People will still kill each other with whatever they have, guns or no guns. But, this isn't the place to enter a GUN/NO GUN argument.

I'm fine with SOMEONE regulating it, if not banning it. Regulation is fine, to keep it out of the hands of minors. But yes, banning is in no way the right thing to do to minimize kids getting violent games.

Why do all the nations ruled by my favorite international political organization's affiliates have to treat gamers so poorly?

I'm sure that every game developer in the world will immediately choose to make games less violent, for fear of a ban in Switzerland. Yeah, that'll happen. I think she has a bit too high an opinion of the influence her nation has on popular culture. No offense to the Swiss, but it's a pretty small country, with a pretty small population. The only reason publishers and developers might worry about this is if they see a trend developing.

Did anyone hear what these politicians said?? They were basically virtual violence is equivalent to real violence because it teaches people to be violent and violent thinking is bad. They are take the position of the Thought Police from George Orwell's 1984. Don't they teach this stuff in Europe?

How many people joke about killing their boss and in the future that joke would be a thoughtcrime, punishable by law because your thinking violent thoughts. You think that is impossible, but they are using the exact same principles to ban these games.

I'm seeing a small discrepancy in- no, it's well within acceptable parameters.
I think we can safely say "Fuck the Swiss."
Up yours, most of us had nothing to do with it. Change that to "Fuck the Swiss government." and I will be somewhat appeased.

I concur. The system that's in place here right now regarding censorship in games is utter bollocks, and more often than not I find myself ordering my games from Austria rather than buying them at Media Markt or Amazon.
Pro tip: buy in the UK. You'll get the games uncut AND cheaper - especially if you don't buy on the first day as prices drop faster then in Austria.

why is evil so very very sexy?
but yes why ban games that already have an R18 labeli can understand the law about not selling games without the PEGI rating
but outright banning games with "excessive violence" what happened o adults being able to make informed decisions for themselves this sounds like the 1950's book banning all over again

what maybe ticks me off the most about this kind of stuff, and like when politicians over here (the US) bash video games (ala the insane sex claims on the first Mass effect) is how utterly detatched they usually are from the subject they're pronouncing judgement on.
For some reason its' okay to attack video games with next to no knowledge of them, literally at times to the point of having someone mentioned that they heard someone's friend's cousin's kid played a game.
If they pulled that kind of knee jerk lazy blatant bashing prejudice against any other form of media they'd be raked over the coals, but because it's video games, nada.
Makes me sick.
They want to bash video game violence when you see worse on TV, they bash games for even the slightest sexual content as well because "kids play games", when in fact games are far less available to them than TV, and cable TV where they can see faaaaar worse.

Seriously insane. People just love to have something to be stupid over.

Thanks for the tip! I think I'll have to get a credit card though... In any case, this is a good idea because I won't have to double-check anymore if the original dialogue is on the disk, and not just a horrendously dodgy German dub. I still get mad thinking about the Halo games which I only got to play in German...

Famous last words. -grabs popcorn and waits for a repeat of Australia-
At least it looks as though Australia's coming out of that recessive rut now. Good news for us.

Move away from violence? So I guess when I stab someone in the chest with the blades of chaos in God of War III, rather than them coughing up blood, I can imagine he's actually throwing up strawberry milk out of shock from seeing Kratos' ridiculous jawline.

You ask too much.

(What's really funny is that we can joke about this.)
