Well my best friend was never all that interested in playing table top RPG's. I wanted him to give d&d a shot. So since I knew he was a fan of Final Fantasy. I spun the campaign around a bit, and introduced Moogles as a new player race and I also made Chocobos into available mounts. He bit on to the idea, and gave d&d a shot. That's all I wanted him to do. It worked. So maybe you can do something like that for your friend.
Yeah, it worked for 3 whole games! :p
The length of time you played is irrelevant. It's the fact that you actually gave it a shot. I still think if we had more of a party, you would have played more.

I blame Mark.

The Perils of the Warp table in Dark Heresy-best thing ever, or best thing ever?
I say it's the best thing ever.

That's what I love about Dark Heresy; it doesn't encourage the overly serious min-maxing character building that games like D&D need when people take them too seriously. Bad things will happen to your character, and you have to make the best of them.

For example, in the first ever encounter in the Dark Heresy campaign I played, the party ran out into a corridor filled with thugs who took cover and opened fire. Then on the first PC turn:

GM: What do you want to do?
PC: I scream "Cover is for scum!" and open fire. *Rolls dice*
GM: 96. Your gun jams. What do you want to do with your other half action?
PC: ... I move into cover.
