I agree with this.
And also with whatever the topic of this thread was.

Twisted Sister frontman Dee Snider has started a campaign to stop misuse of the 'Metal Horns' hand sign (Officially known as the Corna). Apparently the last straw was seeing Miley Cyrus throwing the horns for the paparazzi, what do you think Escapists? Could it work?
you're taking that seriously? Dee is probly doing it for shits and giggles, he's like that.

the metal horns did not belong to metal at all, they're a religious symbol. the funny part is it's part of "the evil eye" although Jesus wouldn't even think that.

i think the site is damn funny tho
It was originally an occult symbol to ward off evil spirits in Eastern Europe, if memory serves me right.

Also, Dio is credited the popularization of it inside the metal community.

Dee himself has said that the site is designed to be funny but underneath the humour is a very real point.

Le gasp! A bad teenage pop star giving the 'rock on' sign!? What has this world come to!?

But yeah, they should be used by people who follow that philosophy, i.e makes music that could blow your ears out. But it will never work. It's a free thing, anyone can do it.

Stop people from doing something just because you want it to mean what it once meant, but no longer means. Good luck with that.

Why not try and get people to stop using the word "cool" in reference to something awesome. Now that would be a worthy goal. And equally as impossible.
This.

I'm with you, but if we have to nuke it, let me know first.

I'm not even a metal-head, I'm a punk rocker and annoys me to see a picture of Miley Cyrus throwing horns. Only throw the horns at shit that's metal/hardcore, something that she doesn't seem to know the meaning of judging by her music.
She was making MUSIC? I thought she was trying to re-create the sound of nails going down a blackboard while drowning a cat and making the la-la-la-la-la sound that the arabs make and the high pitched scream of a small child.

Dee Snider is cool, and the site is funny.

ALthough I do agree that the devil's horns is overused outside metal concerts.

You can have your precious horns back when you give back everything you guys stole from jazz and blues.

Starting with guitar solos, all the way through the drum-set.

actually no it has to do with the Bull God, which itself is a symbol for the rising of Venus during the solstices. it was a time when kings were born, such as Jesus and John the Baptist but that's another topic.

it has nothing to do with the occult, it's actually older than that and goes back to ancient times.

well Dee is not a stupid person at all, he knows it was stolen from somewhere else, so him saying there's a real point behind it is a joke as well.

he's a really smart guy, despite appearances and has a rather good sense of humour.

Pathetic if you ask me, (if he's actually serious,) If the campaign leader was some young kid whose dad brought him up on the classics then I'd be more understanding, but for a 50+ metalhead to do something like this is a bit weird, he must know that he has no chance in taking back the horns surely?

Misuse of the word "gay" is far more worthy.
So yeah, good luck with that sisyphus-like job...

I can tell by reading your posts that you are a quite informed person, but answer me this: of what "evil eye" do you refer? I wiki-ed it and found this http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Evil_eye. Is this the thing you were taking about because the funny story is that in my country this symbol represents "the eye of god" and is said to bring good luck (salesmen these days will lie to you about anything just to sell their stuff XD )
Oh, and kudos to your avatar I just love Richard and LFG.

AAAA sorry for this post... I've rushed to conclusions about "the evil eye"; I initially fought it was this :

but that's actually called "Nazar" and is the thing I was talking about.

Well, yeah. That sign means something. I'm not totally sure what but it's not for everyone to use. Especially Cyrus! It's like cheerleaders and jocks referencing Portal or speaking in binary. NO!

"Throwing the Horns" doesn't need to be "taken back". It needs to have it's meaning dusted off and pushed back into cultural understanding.

Ignorant popsluts shouldn't be throwing the horns simply because they're... well... popsluts, not satanists.

The devil horns are over used?! Since when? Well, something MUST be done.

Fuck off.

It's been happening for the last 20 years and NOW an ageing rockstar decides to do something about it while everyone who believes it rightly belongs to metal laps it up?

It's just a hand sign people. It's not original. It doesn't 'belong' to metal. Anyone can use it. Grow the fuck up.
