No, hang on, it's a business responding to customer feedback and choosing not to sell a specific product that is still freely available to anyone who wishes to buy it.

I do sometimes. I did get Infamous Second Son for $20 for Black Friday. I work at one and get discounts. And if I reserved it, then I get a gift card. Then again I live in the US so things are diffrent.

I don't get it. Seems awfully selective and narrow-minded given the overall content that GTA V contains.

The game "allows" you to do pretty much anything. That's a given. There is plenty of story related things the game expects you to do in order to complete it. You know, slaughtering cops and black gangsters just to name a few. I've played through GTA V a few times and remember no instances where they actually force the killing of prostitutes upon you. Players can do it. But like I said before, players can do anything.

I'm afraid I don't understand the sense in wading through a barrel of violent content, picking out that one thing and saying "I'm offended by this!."

And as seemingly everyone in this thread is already aware of: This won't result in any kind of loss for Rockstar, and will probably even increase the amount of sales they get out of this. So the end result is actually the exact opposite of what the author of the petition and it's supporters were looking for.

What really was the point in all this?

My question would be if they take that off because of a few people then why have R rated movies or any M rated games? This is a thing happening around the world where places stop selling things because of stupid people bitching... I think I feel more bad about the fact how the corporations and government treat Australian gamers worse than most first world countries with the higher tax, restrictions, and laws against gamers of the country... I mean every country has some stupid restrictions and other hate on gaming, but Australia seems to be the one that comes up with the harsher bs compared to UK, Canada, USA, Japan, South Korea, and many other EU countries... I don't understand why Australia get's some of the worse treatment when it comes to videogames... I hope all you guys and gals of Australia that love gaming will sooner rather than later enjoy better treatment and the rights we people in the west take for granted.

Almost as immature as, say, petitioning to have a game removed from sale at a store because you, personally, find its content disagreeable?

Nobody was forcing these idiots to buy a copy of GTA V, this is just a company bending to the will of some reactionary puritan dipshits because they cried the loudest but, as others have rightly said, it won't stop people buying it elsewhere so, hey, if Target don't wanna stock one of the best-selling games of all time then that is literally their loss.
They aren't opposed to GTA 5 because they "find its content disagreeable" - they're opposed to GTA 5 because it allows you to murder prostituted women. That's not "puritanism". Puritans loved violence against women. This is a basic expression of feminism: We probably shouldn't turn violence against women into a hobby.
First of all "allows" is very different from "encourages" which is what they claim it does.

Of course that is why they are opposed to it. You said it yourself. Your reasoning why they are opposed to it is the content of the game (which I should mention isn't even close to being the focus, you could go through the entire game without doing it).

There is far more instances of violence against men in this game than violence against women. Stop acting like one is worse than the other, because it isn't.

I don't know why these people can't just ignore it. If they hate it that much just don't buy it and don't play it. stop trying to ruin everyone elses fun.

Can I gently suggest that there's a difference between people who would ordinarily buy something saying they won't buy it because of the content of a particular offering and people who would never buy something saying that no one should buy it?

Lets not split hairs, here: saying "it's just Target" suggests a willful disbelief that the intention isn't to keep the game out of people's hands and financially discourage Rockstar and others from making similar games. I don't find "I'm offended, and whether you are or not, you shouldn't be able to play this" a particularly noble sentiment. I think, unusually, I'd actually be better inclined towards the petitioners if there was a "making mature content accessible to minors" argument thrown in- yes, this is actually a case where a "won't someone think of the children" would be welcome.

This seems like a poor decision on Target's part, and I don't think they're going to be rewarded for it.

Bingo! This is my response exactly - for a community that whines over and over about how retailers and developers won't listen to them, they sure do get upset when the same folks *start* listening...to the people they don't like.

I wonder if those calling out the game realize that this has been in every GTA in the past mostly and that it is optional. If we ban this lets go ahead and ban all war games because in many of those you bomb things which if we are going by realism has innocent people in it and thus you are murdering civilians, also not just games, but books, and movies have far worse acts and depictions so they must go as well. What is funny to me that people that call for banning certain stuff don't realize they like something just as bad or worse and is just painted with different colors and so it is fine... If the game was not rated for say adults 18 and up maybe they would have some point, but this game they are calling out is not meant for children and apparently these people think all games are for children... Well then all books and movies are for children so go buy your kid 50 Shades of Grey and have them go watch Passion of the Christ... We shouldn't turn torture porn into a hobby would be by words to those people... Books, movies, and games are not reality and they need to get that through their thick skulls... If a person is influenced by said media, then that person already had a problem to begin with.

Because banning video games worked out so well for Australia last time

GTA5 allows you to murder pretty much anyone, why are only the women a bad thing?

I agree completely. This has all been a nonsensical farce to me, and ultimately presents a slippery slope in the long run. The part I bolded is what I agree with the most.

Grisly detailed torture of a man? Eh.

Vast majority of cops and other enemies you kill are men? Eh.

ACTUAL RAPE OF A MAN? Eh.

BUT OH MY GOD YOU CAN RUN OVER HOOKERS. BAN THIS IMMEDIATELY.

Ugh.

The lack of research in the original petition annoys me quite a bit. I know there's a counter petition to get Target to go back on it, but I'm not sure it'll attract the same attention.

But this'd probably matter more if it was an actual game store chain. Target? Well, games are overpriced from what I've heard there anyway, so yeah.

You know, I saw that petition. The top few comments from people signing the petition were people arguing against the petition, so I wonder if maybe there was a concerted attempt to convince people otherwise, and it backfired.

Anyway. Let's not get into a big panic just yet. It's fucking Target. You shouldn't be spending your gaming money there anyway, because then it goes to Wesfarmers, who are legitimately fucking over a lot of small businesses and farmers in Australia. Buy it online or from somewhere else.

No, the biggest question is why the fuck do so many people have brooms up their asses that they feel like they need to dictate everyone what they can or can't do. Don't like it? Don't buy it. Don't ruin the fun for others. They are worse than THAT kid that would take his ball home when he lost and prevent everyone else from having fun.

"You like it? Well fuck you, I don't like it so you can't enjoy it.". Even the majority of children are more mature than the people making the petition to remove GTA5.

The problem is these aren't customers. They never bought it and never would, they just use lies to stop other people from being able to buy it.
I am eagerly awaiting your evidence that these people have never, nor ever will or intend to, bought anything at Target or are regular customers there and are, in fact, just out to harass Target into not stocking certain games. With the kind of certainty you are making that statement with, I can only assume it is some very solid evidence, I am thinking maybe a thorough demographic survey.
I'll answer for him. What world would be be living in where everyone who wants GTA V in their collection would say "I like this game, but I'm going to make sure that Target isn't selling it to anyone, so I will sign this petition"?

Seriously, if there are people that are that contrary or stupid to get something they want off the shelves of a store, then why are we even listening to them in the first place. They don't even know what they want!

The people who signed this were not going to buy GTA V, period. Anyone who didn't want to buy it has no right to say that no one else should be able to buy it either. It's not like people are buying it who didn't want it. That leaves only one conclusion: If you don't like it, don't buy it, and let the actual customers of the product decide who gets to take it home.

This is just a friendly reminder that choosing to not sell a violent game because of the possibility to perform violence against women is sexist. Also the part of the petition where it states sleeping with a prostitute heals the player is a blatant lie.

Actually, that's been one of the longest running critiques against the series.

But acknowledging these things would probably make it a lot harder to reframe things in a convenient fashion.

They mentioned the games 'depictions of violence against women' now it's been a while since I've played it but I don't recall any violence against women in the game, unless they are talking about how you are capable of killing female NPCs IN THE SAME WAY YOU CAN KILL MALE NPCs!
You can kill men after hiring them for sex? Must have missed that part. Can you tell me how to hire male prostitutes?
