Well server owners can ban whoever they want to be honest.

But should they ban F2P players? Of course not. If they want F2P players to enjoy themselves (which leads to becoming better players and becoming paying players) then they should welcome them with open arms!

Serves two purposes. Keeps the newbies away from the veterans whe want to be left alone, and keeps the newbies from playing with people who intrinsicly hate them.

This is for the newbies benefit too.
complaining about this is like saying"ITS NOT FAIR I WANT TO WALK AROUND COMPTON IN MY GOLFPANTS!"

Think of it as a kind of DRM that separates those with paid accounts from the freeloaders.

No different to what bunch of F2P games already do, I see no problem with it, you didn't pay, you don't get in.

Yes it's devisive and unnecessary, but for once it's an individual choice rather than publisher defined division.

Although it IS the server masters right to ban/boot whoever they want, i don't think they're allowed to just go to town on the person.

Boot, End. Thats how i imagine it should go.

It's up to the server owners to decide what they want. If they don't want to play with players who got in for free then that's their business and choice. Is it fair? Yes they pay for their servers and if they want to limit people who play they can because they are paying money to host, they can ban anyone they want.

What do I think of Free to Play players? They're new just like everyone else. There's nice people, idiots and greedy people, I find it pretty irrational to want to try to hate a group of people since they're all different.

I've had my share of annoyances from F2Payers though, I've had at least 5 f2p players start a trade with me, say hi then ask me if I wanted to give(not trade) my alien hat, give all my crates or give my persian persuader gear over. Though this was solved with a "No" and a mute.

Yes, it's within the rights of whoever owns a server to choose who he or she wants to play.
I never said that it wasn't, What got me was that they made a mod for the fact of banning someone over if they have paid anything or not, I agree its with the rights for hosts to say "I don't like yourface *ban" its a bit childish but it is their computer and their connection.

My point (If it wasn't clear) was is it right to attack another player of a game on a Metagame scale Recently my friend had to go through 5 FIVE name changes because her old guild pretty much took her name and ran it through barbwire and salt and threatened to do it with any one that played with her. Doesn't the company have some obligation to make sure things like these don't happen? I know its hard but I'm talking things like serverwide smear campaigns, that is activly hindering if not out right preventing the play of their product?

edit: this goes double for games like WoW, I know its fucking huge and you would need something akin to the National Guard to sort through the emails but really, if it comes down to not being provided a service that you have paid for then they should do something

On the F2P side of this though, Yes they have less weight when it comes to "domestic" problems but when I was playing a F2P game I actually spent 50$ because the mods took time to look into my issue (It was a simple game error telling the quest npc I wasn't done because I was a F2Per)
Right now they don't. They should but they don't. The Guild thing seems like cyberbullying though.

Some people are douchbags. Some of them own servers. They do thing like this. Please avoid these servers and say mean things about them in public conversation.

I did object as well at first, but after playing TF2 again...

Let's just say a shockingly large portion of the "new flood" aren't the sharpest arrow in the quiver.

The running of each server is pretty much individual. The server's rules are the rules for that server and every game hosted by that server. Just like some servers in Call of Duty doesn't allow certain perks or weapons.

Another thing you need to consider is servers cost money to maintain. There are mods who have to control that everything is working as it is supposed to. The more players they have to deal with the greater their expenses are. They should be allowed to restrict players from clogging their bandwidth. Their money, they decide what it goes to.
What your friend experienced is not problems because of a mod, but problems with people being assholes. Her guild blacklisted her, not the mod.

Why exactly, would you want to ban F2P players?
I don't really understand the logic behind that...

Surely after now, they've become skilled enough, right?

Anyway, cue the swarms of people ignoring how unfairly biased this is...
the only use i can see for it is on trade servers since F2P cannot trade. everywhere else is just a dick move.

Unless you´re playing on an official Valve server the server owner got whatever rights he want to ban/kick you. No need to whine just find a new server...

fyi, so no one will hate me to much; I have no issues with F2P more then they can't accept my boxes(giving them away for free of course >_<) which I consider a waste just to delete.
