No, sorry if the title misled you, I don't want to hear rumors, predictions, and the like, nor do I have any.
What I really feel the need to ask is: Is there a point to even making a sequel?
This game is basically the best multiplayer experience I've had, even counting the assholes with mics. I'm used to it, because I do turn into a deadeye with any sniper eventually, so people abuse me often.
Now in most games where sequels are made, the multiplayer never really changes, minus new weapons and occasionally gametypes. Examples being CoD, Halo, Gears of War, Left 4 Dead. However, the justification for the sequel is a continuation of story, a new singleplayer, updated graphics, and the like. And for each game I listed, they all include that, with the minimal changes to multiplayer.
Now here we have TF2 (Team Fortress 2), which is purely multiplayer. There is no singleplayer, so no new story can be made. The graphics are nigh on un-updatable, as they used a pixar-esque cartoon graphics. The game modes and classes are balanced and fun. Most of all, even my friends with integrated graphics chips can play the game, as the specs are stupidly easy to meet without sacrificing the higher end of the spectrum. On high you still see shadows, good effects, etc.
Oh, and VALVe updates the shit out of the game, with class updates, new weapons, and I think there's been a new gametype in there once in a while.
So could VALVe really justify making a sequel to this game? Ideally, as long as the updates are fresh, don't destroy the delicate balance (which they haven't, surprisingly, just changed it a bit), everything else is taken care of. The graphics aren't an issue, its made to look good, but not hyper-realistic. I don't think they can churn out a sequel without making a sequel in name only (ie new classes, maps, graphics, etc) as they can take care of most of that right now via updates, and keep attracting new players while keeping the old.
