Just took the survey. It's literally 5 generic questions. I'd be surprised if they got any usable data at all.
My sentiments exactly.
I saw the submit button and thought "The fuck? I just started".

I wanted to tell them what I think, not just let them farm ideas for a sequel.
(Which is, sadly, what those gameplay preference questions did suggest to me.)

AND they had the balls to call a Duke game "Mature"

Heh. Balls...

Now, with that out of the way:

The info from this survey is worthless. As is most feedback from fans/anti-fans.
It's impossible to please everyone and some people out there can never be pleased at all.
I, myself, have no interest in the game and trying to appeal to specific demographics shouldn't be the goal here.

While I'm not a fan of the franchise I believe that if people want more they should get it, and they should get the best product possible.
So, if that's what Gearbox wants too, then that's a good thing. They're a good developer.

By all means receive criticism and look at ways to improve but at the end of the day, Gearbox, just make sure you're putting out something you can be proud of.

I feel the game blew it's load too early in the game. Same deal with the usual complaints others had, but the alien hive level was cool then all the levels afterwards just felt very meh. It's not a good thing when I'm thinking before even reaching halfway "OMG, when does this game end?!?"

Well I gave them a piece of my mind..AH that felt good. (I traded in my copy of DNF to get store credit with which to put a deposit on Skyrim).

Be mature, Escapists. They're making this poll so they can get constructive criticism on what they should fix next time. Don't completely bag the game out; you'll just be wasting someone's time. Tell them what needs fixing and how they could fix it.

I know it's become commonplace to bash DNF just for being it, but if you're going to answer the poll, act like a responsible adult.

Hilarious part is they put every problem with DNF into the survey, so they do know how they screwed the pooch.

But there should be an optional final commentary as those numbers can't really tell the full story.

So they made a survey, likely more probable than not, to get a feel for why people DIDNT buy/like the game and their offering swag for that game as a prize.... Does Gearbox think? Why would I want a Duke Nukem t-shirt if I hate the game? lol

Wow, multiple choice with no comment box?!?! lol

Amazed the author didn't mention that. Gearbox decidedly does not give a _______ what you think beyond some mechanical statistics impossible to draw proper conclusions from.

What, no "How would you make the developers of Duke Nukem Forever suffer for wasting your valuable money and time on a pile of failure so limp you couldn't enjoy it with a cocktail of Ecstacy and Viagra?"

How about asking us what we thought of their disgustingly mysoginistic attitude towards women, not just from Duke but from the game in general?

Or the boring level design that feels like something whipped up over a weekend by an unimaginative fan with the Build engine?

I haven't seen such childish self-agrandizing B.S. since 50 Cent. Maybe Vin Diesel has a hard on for his Riddick character but even he put out a half-way decent game. Argh.

Great survey. I made the mistake of answering I hadn't played the game initially because I've only played the demo, and that told me everything I needed to know. Because of that I don't even get to say what was wrong with it, I just get asked about what gameplay mechanics I generally like in shooters.

Just let it die. I'd rather games be cutscene fest's with arty goals than think merely having a stripper in a game is humorous. There is a reason the 90's and it's culture aren't remembered and Duke Nukem "humor" is one or those things that should have been killed along with Cobain.

I loved the game. I know plenty of people who loved the game. Critics can go fuck themselves at the best of times, yet alone when the game is fifteen years in the making - it was guaranteed poor reviews whether the game was halfway decent or not (and it WAS decent). But it borders on pure hatred, hatred neither the game nor Gearbox deserves.

GO, POSITIVE:

Decent in a 5/10 mediocre kind of way yeah. I had some fun with it. Most people insist on being fucking stupid about it.

You largely have two types of haters on the game.

1. Easily offended butt hurt morons who can't take a joke.

It doesn't matter if the joke is stupid or juvenile, I'm fairly sure it wasn't intentionally meant to bother anyone.... and yet you let it.

2.People who expect it to the the second coming because of the long development time, or expect it to be a current gen game when the actual scenario was largely decided a decade ago and they just kept jumping onto new graphics engines.
I had fun with it. On a scale of 1/10 enjoyment scale, it's an eight. On the production side, it's well decent (so yeah, 5/10). As far as I'm concerned, Duke Nukem Forever is the definition of a 7/10 "good" game.

I hated it because it wasn't a "homage" to 90s old school gaming. It WAS a 90's game. Outdated, a mess, what it tried to do modern was bad because it SHOULDVE been old school style (Two guns), crappy/outdated humor (a Leroy jenkins joke ?) and much more.

The strip club deserves a special mention.

I mean I get people not liking it, it's just this 1/10 bullshit. I don't care how much it bored or annoyed you. It's not a 1/10 because it functions.

A one out of ten game is not a game that really isn't fun, it's a game that is a buggy non functioning, unfun, and probably confusing plot wise MESS.
A game would have to physically assault me to get a 1/10. Physically assault me and be an atrocious game at the same time. Actually, any game that bugs out so much that it bricks my console or computer would be 1/10 material - and that's if it's a bad game to go with it, if Crysis bricked my computer it'd still get lavish praises from me, to be honest.

I don't get why people HATE Duke Nukem Forever, to the extent that it's the worst game of the decade or whatever. I do not understand how anyone open-minded and fun-loving couldn't enjoy Duke Nukem Forever. Sure, it was a technically terrible game, but it was still a FUN game. Wait, it wasn't even technically terrible. So yeah. I think a lot of people are just facetious assholes.

Damnit. I was hoping they'd have some sort of 'additional comments' box for write-ins. As it stands, what's there to read? The numbers and percents?

I'm happy that they were clearly aware of a few things that people didn't like. The satisfaction questions including 'Two Weapon Inventory' and 'Regenerating Health' was an indicator enough of that. But that sort of thing was obvious: those were met with almost universal disdain. They're just confirming what they already know. The survey let us express where we were dissatisfied (which, again, they already knew), but didn't let us actually talk about how it could've been better, what we wanted out of the game.

Now that I think about it, it's largely for the same reason the latest Indiana Jones was met so poorly: it was a much-heralded revival of a beloved franchise...and it only detracted from what we once knew and enjoyed.

It was like running into a friend from college fifteen years after graduation, only to discover that the person you liked is still in there, but buried beneath an abusive relationship, a shitty job, and some sort of smack addiction.

That isn't true, man. You make it sound like lousy reviews were inevitable, but they weren't. During that fifteen year production time, countless errors were made that built into a mountain of failure. A madman was put in charge of production, the dev team was switched, the engine swapped out, scripts discarded and re-written...the list goes on.

It could've been great, man. And I wish it had been. But...it wasn't. That's not critics talking, either. That's a fan talking. I'm not angry or vindictive, just...disappointed.

...shit, is this that thing parents are always talking about feeling?
