Agreed. Sarcasm that makes people believe a bit too much that you're serious is BAD SARCASM.
Unless it's a mindfuck. Make it subtle enough and people will believe every word of it, or they'll flame you to hell and back because you're taking the piss out of something they love.

(British folks, did I use the phrase "taking the piss" correctly? You guys have the best phrases.)

This is sarcasm...right?

But actually, this one is pretty neat:
10) The CEO of Rockstar Games said he doesn't really like Pac Man anymore. Read this out of context quote, "I don't really" [like Pac Man anymore].

..........Heh. Who needs political correctness.

Mildly amusing.

Oh look, faux-hipster-irony. Cliché-ridden, done-to-death hack work that exists only for the hey-look-at-me mental masturbation of its author and contributing more spew onto the "hey, let's make fun of people who make fun of stuff that's popular!" meme.

F Minus Minus, David Hill. I've seen keener funny bones on the person of network executives who greenlight stuff like "Shit My Dad Says" to be sitcoms.
Actually, they'll keep making such posts when people keep making posts like

Ignore my previous post i'm going to tell the flaws.

1.He says the graphics are bad. It was made when the first video games were made so he shouldn't be complaining.

2.The game is fine on it's own. " if it isn't broken don't fix it."

(3 has very simple reasons)

4. It doesn't matter if the game is violent a game can be good without having to harm/kill someone or something.

( He didn't make 5 me skipped to six)

6.Really the game isn't hard to figure out for a reason: so people can have more time to play then to learn how to play.

7. Look the game was made quite some time ago it wasn't made this year.

8. Again it was made quite so time ago games back then didn't have physics engines.

9. Once again this made quite some time ago jrpgs didn't exist back then.

10. I have comment for this one.
It might be a cliche'd technique, but when verbal irony continues to breed dramatic irony, well... you can't -invent- that last stuff.

Verbal irony and sarcasm are two different words. Verbal irony is when you say something intentionally opposite to your message. Sarcasm is when you are saying things with contempt.

He is not displaying outright contempt, and the term 'sarcasm' does not apply.

And verbal irony that is not immediately identified as such by a lot of people is only bad if -no one- gets it. Many of comedy's best humor comes from the idea of an expression of verbal irony, followed by someone not getting it. Many straight men in comedy operate on that principle.

Care to qualify that statement? You have plenty of reasons to ***** about someone's top 9 list taking the piss out of Pac-Man's 30th Aniversary, so can you quantify the value of Beavis and Butthead?

I think it's better than you give it credit for in any case. It shows how mature the gaming culture has (not) become in 30 years, and for all the subtlety it lacks it is confusing a number of people. I don't think it's so much hipster irony (which is incredibly lame and played out) as it is satire of Kotaku and other 4th-grade-reading-level games 'journalism' pages.

is essentially him puting a gun to his point's head and pulling the trigger.
Yeah. You've got me.

(The subtitle for the original was "My Ode to Video Game Journalism.")
And the subtitle only further demonstrates that he's writing for the sake of writing. This type of piece has been done to death. Maybe asshole hipsters who find anvilicious attempts at irony funny might laugh, but that's barely a step up from laughing at Beavis and Butt-head. (mind you, I think B&BH are hilarious, but they don't pretend to be anything other than stupid.)
Oh gee, sorry the humor isn't sophisticated enough for you. How has this been "done to death"? I've never seen a piece ironically talking about "why pacman sucks".

And you mention it's a step UP from B&BH, yet say it's bad, but you find B&BH hilarious. That makes NO sense whatsoever.

God I hate elitists.
See, here's the thing. B&BH is lowbrow, but it's GOOD lowbrow, and good anything tends to be good.

This article is bad hipster-ironic and comes off as amateurish and frankly worthy of its publication source (Livejournal). And the done-to-death part has nothing to do with Pac-Man and everything to do with how hipsters just love to ironically make fun of things by...wait for it...co-opting their style with a lame copycat piece that's meant to be IRONIC! Hurr hurr we're so funny!
I like it, what would it look like if it wasn't "amateurish"? And what the hell do you mean by "hipster".

You better be careful, you're going to ruin your carpet if you keep dripping so much narcissism. That shit stains.

So either:
A) Really bad attempt at being funny, and will probably be slagged like you wouldn't believe
or
B) It is a mindfuck, people believe this lad, and flame him to hell and back, while others defend him.
I do expect there may be some back-peddling from him to come.

(And yes, you used ''taking the piss'' correctly. And yes again, those Brits have brilliant phrases.)

There sure are a lot of people in hear who...

A. Didn't read the whole thing
B. Don't understand sarcasm
C. Can't take a joke
D. Have Asperger's
E. All of the above

I got a little laugh out of it but, this kind of joke is starting to get old now.

But "Shit My Dad Says" is a quality show, regularly receiving good reviews, and beloved by all now that Friends has come to an end!

But yeah, the article was overdone, aside from the use of the out-of-context quote. Is it possible that semi-ironic humour is no longer funny?

4) There's no violence. Some professor in Indiana proved beyond a shadow of a doubt that video games can never, ever have an influence on children's minds, so there's no excuse to have a video game without excessive violence. Real gamers only play games that are rated M.
If Pac-Man had any influence on children, young adults would be running around dark rooms listening to repetitive electronic music and munching magic pills...

How the hell are people not realising this is sarcasm? It's not even a little bit subtle. It would probably be funnier if it was harder to tell he wasn't serious. The out of context quote was admittedly clever though.

That was barely almost funny. However the ensuing battle in this thread is far more amusing, and makes me think the author knew what he was doing. Official troll is official.
