first album was genius. film and second album were a dissapointment

I'd agree with that. They first inspired me to pick up the guitar with their debut album, so I'll always at least like that record

I wouldn't call them genii... They are fairly good musicians, Jack Black has a great voice. And I do respect them for being metal heads. But, compared to bands like Metallica or Slayer, they aren't anywhere as good, for me. Fun band, good to listen to, but certainly nowhere near my top bands.

I think they wore out their novelty pretty quickly. Although The Pick of Destiny was incredibly funny.

They have some really great live performances if you haven't checked them out.

They appear to be trying too hard and Jack Black seems to spend the majority of his career convincing us that he is metal and that metal is awesome and metal metal metal and so forth. He has even begin invading the gaming industry with his bizarre and obsessive "metal is God" pathology, which is troubling, to say the least.

I suppose you could say the shtick has grown tired, but to be honest, I felt it was rather tired from the get go. Other "joke" bands do it much better, I think.

Other then that I'm relatively indifferent to them.
