as a pc gamer i just want to say to my fellow pc gamers who are upset about this...grow the fuck up. who cares if console gamers get to enjoy a game you love. i know you wanted pc related news about terraria but the game coming to consoles doesnt hurt us any. remember when you were arguing for dark souls to come to pc and part of the reasoning was so everyone would be able to enjoy a great game, regardless of their platform of choice.....

dont be hypocritical. sharing is good
That's just the thing... I'm ok with porting its a good thing but the scales are tipped in consoles favour when it comes to them. We either rarely get them or get bad ones.

I'm always confused when this sort of thing happens. I've never been exclusive to one brand before. During the "Bit Wars" I had both Nintendo and Sega consoles. Now, I have several consoles and a gaming PC, so I've never been worked up over anything going multiplatform. I just say to that "Good for them, they're expanding their audience."

I'm not trying to brag or anything, because I'm far from being able to consider myself "wealthy", but I just don't see the logic behind limiting yourself to on specific platform. That would be like decrying all forms of gaming except Milton Bradly board games and getting pissed off when they make a video game version of Crossfire or some shit like that. It makes no goddamn sense to me.

Yet I'm here, playin my PC games, not giving a fuck about Terraria in any of it's forms.

Feels good to be me.

High five to that,

Also, RE the unedited OP

If I said "all people x do thing y" in any other context, I'd probably be vilified.

The Terraria Facebook page is currently not a happy place as PC gamers, an inherently insecure bunch to begin with, vent their rage over what they seem to see as a betrayal of... well, something.
It seems like half my comments nowadays are just pointing out how unprofessional this site's news articles are. Seriously, why make this comment?
Kotaku did it too and they're the go to guys for news apparently.

Ummmm... I'm a PC gamer, I have Terraria (and didn't enjoy it all that much), and all I have to say: good for console players?... Seriously, guys, this is a good thing.

I don't understand how people can be angry about this. Like, if they'd announced a Terraria 2 that was going to be a console-exclusive or something, they would have a right to be pissed off. But this just exposes the game to a wider audience with zero negative impact on the PC version.

Elitist morons.

Name a thing that some people like. Somewhere on the internet, probably on a major and super popular site or service, are a group of asshats who are way louder then the vast majority of sane-minded individuals. It always happens. It does not reflect on any group.

I am primarily a PC gamer, and yes, this reaction is stupid. Mainly because if I WANTED to be elitist, I could imagine the kind of control schemes that would be necessarily to enable playing on a console. Terraria is defiantly a game that lends itself most easily to the PC. I'm glad that my platform of choice has that edge. But I'm also glad that even though a game like, say, Limbo or Braid lends itself more easily to a console, I can still get a completely functional version for my PC. Terraria is expanding to other audiences, and that is awesome. It doesn't change the fundamental fact that different platforms have different strengths and weaknesses, and "Not the best platform" does not equal "Bad".

This is why people hate pc elitists, and genearlized anything about pc games, these people, this vocal minority right there.

On the side note, I love terraia, but strapped for cash and have on the pc to begin with, but I have no one to play with :(.

As a PC gamer, I join the legion apologizing for the prats that seem to call themselves PC gamers these days. Though I can understand their ire if the PC version of the game stops receiving any dev support because of this.

So it's a repeat of what happened when Minecraft got announced on consoles.

I a pretty stoked about this. I reached a dead end in the PC version where there just isn't anywhere left for me to go. I have several hundred hours logged in the PC version, so dropping another 10 bucks or so for the console version to start again would be no problem for me.

I have a feeling this isn't really about it going to the consoles as much as its the game was abandoned by the dev despite all the promises of updates.

The project was completely abandoned before completion, leaving a massive list of promised features not implemented. It was a sad and frustrating end to a very enjoyable game.

Then out of the blue to have a console version announced, when their version of the game is completely unfinished? I can understand the frustration. They are assuming that the console version will be an idealized complete version of the game, and that the PC version will not get that.

Maybe an unfounded assumption but it wouldn't be the first time, I really can't blame these people, as un-eloquent as they may be.
As a guy who bought the game in the beginning, I've have to say that the fans can suck it up. That game is packed with content and is a completely different beast that the original launch. To say that this game didn't get a lot of attention from the devs is bull.

Why are people commenting without reading the article???

PC gamers are upset because the new console releases are getting new content that the PC version isn't, which is especially hurtful when the dev's promised something new and exciting to them.

Nobody gives a shit that Terraria is on consoles, it's the fact that the developer teased some new content then just decided to ignore their main userbase in favor of a completely new market.

I'm not saying that's reason to throw a fit over a facebook page but it's at least some justification for being concerned.

And I don't see why Andy has changed his comment. It's no better or worse than the original version, I can't tell if he was trying to backpedal or throw more fuel on the fire, either way he failed, it's essentially the same comment, only more passive aggressive, which is odd because he's a self proclaimed PC gamer.

Anyway I don't see how this is news. "People get mad at things on the internet" is nothing new.

As a PC gamer myself, I feel I must jump in on this.

I don't care. It's a good game and would work well on consoles.

Whoo... Glad to let off some steam like that. Sorry to go all "preachy" and stuff. I probably shouldn't have swore so much, but I felt my opinion needed to be stated.
Ha, that was funny.

I agree with you, definitely. I might even care a little bit about it. If it allows more people to play the game, I'm all good with that.

Speaking as an almost pure PC gamer. The idea of getting angry because a PC exclusive goes to consoles is just...silly.

So consoles can have exclusives and PC's can't? Okay. And yeah, PC's are superior. I own three consoles, and they have a place, but they are inferior. You can prefer consoles, and that's fine, that's your preference; preferences are only opinions though. And superiority is based on facts. And objectively, PCs are better; consoles are objectively worse. As in better processor, better RAM, better GPU, more control options, and finally lower priced games. I can't tell you what your favourite is, but you asked for what was superior, I must answer. Oh and "Playing on the couch is better, I like controllers, and I don't like all the hassle of setting things up are all opinions, not facts. Sure, you can use those points in formulating your own opinion of your PREFERENCE, but they can't be used in proving which is SUPERIOR.... \ But let me reiterate incase you didn't get it through your thick little skull: PC is superior objectively, consoles still have a place, and no one is trying to tell you you have to like PC. But this is all beside the point...

You say I am trying to hog the games for PC.. I do not support this nor did I ever state it. I supported Minecraft Xbox Edition and I even own it. It accomplished what a good port should do: expand the audience to people who would otherwise not get to play the game. But should't that go both ways? I merely stated I can agree with some people not liking Terraia being ported as we PC gamers don't get as fair a share of ports. I never said "Terraria should never, ever be ported and the PC master race should hog all the games!!!" I proved this with a list of many exclusives that I'm sure many PC gamers would love to have, just as many console gamers want Terraia. So, one last time, how is it that you can "HOG ALL THE GAMES" but PC gets shit? Oh, and QQ MOAR about your terrible reading comprehension.
I love how you treat me like shit because I prefer consoles, when in reality, all I have is a PC.

Thick little skull? Seriously? U mad? It's easy to dismiss everything you say when you say things like that (even more so when under self-administered false pretense).

I'm fully aware that PCs are superior by definition. This fact has nothing to do with this discussion, meaning your little rant did nothing but make you look like a fool.

And you say you didn't support game-hogging, but that's been the underlying message of every single thing you've typed up to this point: "I'm upset because I have to give up previously exclusive titles to the consoles." You try to justify with "But they don't give us anything!" which is bull. Almost everything I want to play is ported to PC, and your long list of games that haven't is dwarfed by those that have. Then, you accuse ME of saying that PCs can't have exclusives.

You attack MY reading comprehension, but YOU'RE the one projecting into what I write. As I said, I don't even have a console. So... Whoops!

What you're trying to do is justify thousands of PC gamers acting like tantrumming children simply because game companies don't give you enough ports.

Deny it. You can't, because it's what you've been doing.

I, for one, take what I get, and don't support embarrassing *****-fits because I use a product and dislike one of the (few) benefits of a competing product.

Although, I should thank you for the copious mirth I got from your assumptions that I use consoles. Assumptions aren't your friend.

Having fun?

You'd think people would catch on just by looking at your avatar.
Oh wait, this is very important, life changing news so your not allowed to prod people.

No fun for you!

______________________________________________________________________________________

To the people who are talking about the complaints being primarily about unfulfilled pc promises as opposed to the fact it's coming to consoles, I agree with you. However, while that is the main problem people are bringing up, some of the comments on the facebook page are not as formal, reasonable or polite as you are being here. Not that there aren't complaints worded in a reasonable manner, it's just that they are not as detailed and don't stand out as much due to the lack of passion they convey compared to the ones with strong wording that try to convey offense.

I can't tell the ratio of calm to angry complaints because I'm not reading though all 2K comments.

I can't wait until people realize that the "extra content" is going to be split screen. This was bull. WE DON'T CARE THAT ITS COMING TO CONSOLE. This isn't just me being a pc elitist. This is just me complaining, as you STOPPED UPDATING THE DAMN GAME, THEN RELEASED IT ON CONSOLE! So way to go red. You managed to fail on your fans, and messed up bad. So now you pissed off all your fans, even the console ones. I have a console. But I have not a single problem telling you that I will never buy it for console. You could at a damn dragon mount and it still wouldn't make a even slight difference. So enjoy your extra 5,000 bucks from all the people who are going to join in on this shit. I loved Terraria. I still do. But you fucked us over, and now your fans will insure that it falls flat on its face.
don't waste your money. These guys stopped updating this game for what? And now they realize how up the shitter they are and thus coming back. Don't give them the time of day. Shit developers.
F*&king consoles

thats so stupid. Thats why they announced they wouldnt be updating the pc version anymore
You are dead to me.
RIP Terraria.
Way to just take a shit on us PC players who have been supporting terraria from the start!
All i have to say is this:

Terrraria, F*CK YOU
PS3 alone would have been fine, but then I just "hope" the contracts with them aren't as stupid.

But no, he also sold his soul to Microsoft.

Bloody sellouts. He's not in it for the art anymore. So freakin' obvious. Haven't seen an indie dev come back from this.

Bye, and enjoy your money. You're no longer an indie developer, just some random guy with a console collar. Bloody moron.

dont buy it, they are just trying to get more money so they can keep working on there other game

Nice! As a mac user with some consoles, it'll be nice to give this game a go finally.

And yes, I admit: As a Mac gamer, my reaction to those whining it got a wider release is: "Aww, muffin."

Again, no I don't support game hogging, either by PC or console. If I did, why would I take the time to post that huge list of games that I would like to have on PC. I specifically said I think that Ports are good and gave you the example of Minecraft. But again, you ignore that while I state I like ports, the balance between Console -> PC ports and PC -> console ports is unbalanced. SO yeah, I'd like to believe you have reading comprehension problems because you continue to ignore the fact that I NEVER, EVER SAID "I WANT TO KEEP ALL THE GAMES ON PC, NO ONE CAN HAVE THEM" Apparently, if I infer you play consoles, I'm an idiot for being wrong. Ok, that's cool, that's what they same with assuming: it makes an ass and of u and me. I was wrong. But YOU can infer that my objective is to justify keeping all the games on Steam so no one else can have them... and be completely wrong; I haven't said ANYTHING to support this notion, but that's fine, you're never wrong right? WAH WAH YOU"RE PROJECTING INTO WHAT I WRITE. It goes both ways moron.

Just because everything you like gets ported to PC means absolutely nothing to me or anyone else for that matter. It doesn't make up for the fact that the port scale is tipped heavily in the consoles favour. DOES THIS MAKE IT OK TO WANT ALL PC GAMES TO BE EXCLUSIVE? NO. IT MEANS I UNDERSTAND THE POINT THAT THESE GAMERS ARE MAKING( THE EXACT SAME THING I SAID IN MY FIRST POST) I guess you don't remember, because you only ignore what I have to say and post your own bullshit as a response to something I never said.

Terraria was my GOTY for last year...
While I was sorely disappointed in Redigit's decision to just drop support entirely, I'm not especially mad about him porting it to consoles.

IT'S. A. PORT. FROM. PC.
We honestly lose NOTHING

The new content? It's probably going to be token and miniscule.
And replicated by modders within a month.

If it's substantial, like the 1.1 Update was, then I have little to no doubt that he would provide the same content as an update to the original PC version.

Why? I dunno, SELL MORE PC COPIES, MAYBE?

Since Redigit said that he's basically done developing the Core of Terraria for good, I cannot fathom this happening.

The Special box edition came with one special item. You know what it was?
A Carrot that summoned a pet Bunny. A pet that basically did absolutely fuck-all.
Oh, the scandal!

We still don't get any of it? PC GAMERS GET MODS.
(I played a few mods over Labor Day weekend. They're DAMN good and quite fun)

It's sad, but not unexpected for those bad apples to make PC gamers look elitist.
Way to maintain the stereotype, assholes.
