Yeah, I kinda wanna laugh and cry at the same time. The kid didn't seem to be throwing a fit, didn't even seem to be conscious. The whole idea of leashing your kids like a dog is something I'm very against.

Wow, what an idiot.
First off: she thought she would get away with doing that in public?
Secondly: There are other ways to deal with tantrums.

I agree with the news reporters- we need more info.

The kid could have been having a blast or they could have been choking.

Oh how I hate parents who put their kids on a leash, what are they, dogs?

Dragging your Kid through a Store on a Leash!?

That woman has some serious problems.

That is mildly hilarious.

I've seen parents do similar things without the leash, just by grabbing the kid's hand or clothing. When a kid throws a stupid tantrum, it can be pretty annoying.

Although what she did in the video is definitely over the top.

Hmmm. Not very nice. Although that child could be laughing also. A bit more information on this, like sound on the video could, for me and everyone else, give more to judge or not.

I totally agree with this. It starts to fail from the point when you leash your kid in the first place.

EDIT: And if the choices are "terrible or fine" I would choose terrible.

I'm not going to watch this clip. From what i've read based off of user comments to determine what is in this clip, it sounds like something that is very horrible indeed. :(

In a way, I can just about understand what the mother was doing. While completely wrong - I get the impression that the mother was short temper and the kid had propensity to wander and had on that day thrown a mega tantrum. (One that his mother was in no mood to deal with.)

I have seen more and more people use these harnesses on their children, but like the clip had said - not used in this fashion. I can only hope the parent has been shamed enough to buck up her ideas.

I was on a leash with a child, and with good reason.
As a toddler, I raised Hell, and didn't understand the concept of danger. If a dog is as intelligent as a two-year-old child, and we keep dogs on leashes because we love them and want to keep them safe, it makes sense that we'd do the same with our own flesh and blood.
The thing that gets me here is that the child looks too old to reasonably be on a leash.

Any parent who has to resort to a leash to keep their child in check clearly shouldn't have become a parent in the first place.
And that's just regular use of back-pack leashes, if THIS is what you're doing, you need to have your child taken away from you.

Needs moar background info.

She could just be a shitty parent dragging her kid around (lulz wordplay) because she doesn't want to pay for a babysitter or whatever and sees the kid as a burden. She could also have the misfortune of having a shitty kid who doesn't know how to behave (which is partly a failure on her part -- some kids just plain refuse to behave and have to be trained like dogs; if that's the case, this kid isn't getting enough discipline to begin with), and she needs to get stuff done while also dragging the kid around (Woah, there it is again!) because the babysitter cancelled and her husband's at the office boning his secretary.

The former is horrible and indicative of an abusive home life as well, so I'd support the charges. The latter is still bad, but at least understandable and I don't think it warrants more than a misdemeanor. Seeing as the kid was on a leash in the first place, it's probably more or less one of those two.
