Ow. Ow. I knew this had to happen someday, but... damn...

If you'll excuse me, I'm off to read some of his books again.

I hope Death was as kind to him today as Mr Pratchett always made him out to be in his books.

Terry paused for a moment among the black sands, suddenly accutely aware of something that he had missed.

"If I'm with you and we're in the desert of my creation, doesn't that make me god?"

Death considered this with what might have been called a troubled expression, excepting of course that he did not have one. The blue flecks of light within the skull's socket dimmed, and he thought upon the matter.

"Fair enough."

We'll miss you, sir. Godspeed.

Fuck this makes me so sad, he's been my favourite author since I was 10. My old and battered copy of night watch, with the original front, is the best book I have ever read.

Your watch is over now Sir Terry, enjoy the black desert and try not to upset Binky.

Terry Pratchett has been one of my favourite authors for a long time. It doesn't come as a surprise and I feel as though he had accepted this for quite some time, but it's still sad to see him go.

"No more words. We know them all, all the words that should not be said. But you have made my world more perfect."

Rest in Peace, Terry Pratchett.

I hate to see him go and hate even more that it was Alzheimer that got him. I hope his passing was pain free and wish his family the best.

Sir Terry sadly lost his battle with Alzheimer's disease. Many people here have read and enjoyed his 70 novels that last been completed in summer 2014

Farewell you will be missed
There's actually a book coming out next September, called The Shepherd's Crown; it's about Tiffany Arching. The illustrator is still working on his part of the book, according to this post. [http://www.paulkidby.net/index.php/blog/previous/221-february-6th-2015-so-far-so-good]

This man is responsible for teaching me how to laugh. And now I'll never get back at him for it.

Someone once told me many years ago that the true measure of the greatness of a person was how much joy and light they left the world after they had gone.

Countless people have been brought joy by your works Mr. Pratchett. By my measure you are truly a great man.

*Raises glass*

Thank you from the very bottom of my heart.

I'm actually choking up. I've been reading Pratchett's novels since I was in school and to think I will never go into the bookshop with a smile to pick up his latest, wonderful, funny novel is making me physically weep...

It's going to be really odd now... I guess I should go and try out that old Diskworld Noir game or pick up my copy of Night Watch...

There is no more time, even for cake. For you, the cake is over. You have reached the end of cake. - Death
Farewell Sir Terry Pratchett. You will be missed.

The man had a sword made with meteorite ore for when he was knighted and built a personal observatory in his back yard with money he made from early books.

From the first moment I picked up a little book called "Thief of Time" out of curiosity, I don't think there's been a single week I haven't read a Pratchett book.

While I have not read every single one of them, of those that I do, I always re-read when I get the chance. Hell, My favourite book, Thud!, I have read AT LEAST 20 times and without hyperbole, I am not even slightly tired of reading it. Hell, I almost always find something new in every subsequent read through, no matter how small.

Pratchett just had the power to do that I guess.

It's very sad, not only did he die but so did all his characters. No more wizards, no more nightswatch, no more barbarians, no more DEATH. I will never be able to immerse myself in a new discworld novel again.

R.I.P Sir Terry

A moment of silence spreads across Ankh-Morpork, from the halls of Unseen University, to the headquarters of the Watch, to even up to the palace where Lord Vetenari sits in his office, even far across the seas of time and space where the gods put aside their childish games in honor of the passing of a great man, whose creativity literally knew no bounds!

Death comes personally for wizards, royalty, and those most important. Terry was all of them.

Incredibly sad. I saw him about 6 months ago since he lived in Broad Chalke and he looked pretty frail back then. At least his creations lives past him. Thanks for Unseen Academicals, my first and favourite Terry Pratchett book.

...No...

...No, this cannot be...

It's so weird. How can I feel so sad and empty about the passing of a person I've never met?
But I love his books. I love them to death. You lot know that. No other author has managed to so completely and thoroughly enthrall, enchant and immerse me in their worlds like Pratchett did. Unlike some of you, I never grew up with them (I knew of their existence, but I never started reading them until about 3-4 years ago), but no other book before or since has managed to hold my attention in the same way. The wonderful descriptions, the colorful characters, the rich lore, all of it. Thanks to that, I pretty much read 5-6 of his books over the course of about 2 months.

This doesn't just involve Discworld, either. Right now, I'm reading Dark Side Of The Sun, one of his earliest books. It has the same feeling of magic as Discworld. I look forward to buying all of his other books and feel so sad that he'll never write another book again.

The world has lost a great author, a spark of creativity, the creator of one of the most intriguing and colorful worlds the literary world could offer. (At least, in my opinion) I hope he had as much fun writing these little magic books as we had reading them.

Don't Fear The Reaper. RIP, Sir.

There is nothing we can do but to salute him for having existed and in doing so having enriched the lives of all those around him. His legacy, dramatic finesse, compassion and wit will be remembered by all those that have enjoyed his works.

Rest easy Sir Terry Pratchett, for a life well spent.

I've not read any Terry Pratchett, even though by all accounts (and judging also by my own brief experiences of what he's written) I would love his work to bits. Always came across as an intensely intelligent and imaginative bloke.
