Finally got it, took about 2 and 1/2 hours but finally got it.

Funny thing is that I've never played the game but was actually thinking about buying it today

This was a fun week and I really want another puzzle week eventually, good stuff Escapist, good stuff

Well I got it, but like a couple others I'm not sure how the final few clues link to the answer. I mean, the relationship between the people in the picture and the solution is fairly obvious, but I'm clearly missing a logical step or two.

I was having the same problem, but then I thought the picture -- and what it means -- has something in common with the name of the game. I mean, I think they do, I'm not an expert...

Anyway, this has been pretty hard, but a lot of fun. Thank you, Escapist. I'll proudly display my shiny new badge from now on, this one was hard to get.

I had figured the pictures referred to the game's protagonist, and that assumption seemed reinforced by all of the clues, but I'm thinking I'm way off-base now. :/

The pattern you identified in the picture has a name. Take part of that name. A famous smart person did something with that, and discovered something that what we all now know is very important.

Hm, yes. I suppose that the the one thing can pretty much be described as the other in reverse. Still, with all the variables on the website, the sequence, each mathematician, the staircase, the portraits in general, the "youranswerhere", it was a bit difficult to actually focus, that combined with two possible places to put answers, the answer box and the URL, that seems like a bit of a poor puzzle design. You just don't want to leave that much extraneous information. A bit is good to encourage mental linking, but that much just creates too many areas to screw up while making what you screwed up still a mystery.

Fuck me, that took a long time. I've been reading all forty five pages of this thread and some of the hints I've seen here are the only reason I actually managed to finish the goddamn thing.

In thanks to those of you that helped along the way, I'll post a hint of my own.

This will probably only help those of you that have already made it through the hole and it's supposed to be witty and subtle, but my brain hurts, so it might be neither.

Ok, now I'm pissed. I took a shot in the dark after reading Alakaizer's post up there, and got the right answer. I MUST KNOW HOW TO SOLVE THIS PUZZLE. I'm still trying to get to the site with the scientists on it. How do you get to the article with the grammar and punctuation errors?
