Always remember that debt is not a problem of shortage of money, it's a problem of distribution of money.So... forgive credit debt as well, then? I agree!

But it's not the small businesses that are shuffled around, it's big businesses that lose their ability to hold onto jobs since they operate at strict industrial numbers. Small towns get business boosts through their small businesses. You can see this reflected nationally by comparing the very anti-worker southern states to the west coast and new England based on their minimum wages and the percentage of the population that works for small businesses. Spoiler, states with higher minimum wages tend to employ more people in small businesses. Of course the most rural states have the highest incidence of small business employment, which is why you're bringing up small businesses at all, but even among the extremely rural states, the trend continues. Montana has a higher minimum wage than any of it's neighbors and has a higher rate of small business employment than them. South Dakota has a higher minimum wage than North Dakota and has about a 2% higher rate of small business employment than they do.It means that minimum wage changes do not cause unemployment to increase overall, which is reasonable to care about macroeconomically, but they specifically indicate that this is a result of offsetting negative and positive effects (some jobs go away cause they don't make economic sense at that wage, other jobs add from the increase in spending from those with higher wages). And those positive and negative effects do not happen in the same sectors of the economy.
Incorrect.Well one is the first quartile of of median wage, and the other is the 4th quartile of median wage.
Yeah, that's a bad take on their part. At the same time, CPS can be misused. Once upon a time I dated a woman who was part of CPS for a chunk of her career and started working in a different county because she was averse to the way her previous county used CPS as a way to dodge silly things like due process.Child protection services.
Child Protective Services (CPS) | Texas Law Help
CPS is responsible for investigating charges of abuse, neglect, or exploitation of children. All reports of child abuse must be investigated by CPS. Because a CPS investigation can have devastating outcomes for families, it's important to discuss questions or concerns with an attorney. The Texas...texaslawhelp.org
Just so we can all be sure they don't give a solitary fuck about "grooming"
I feel like I should point out that it seems like damn near every small town has some sort of dollar store while most small towns I drive through as a regular basis in Montana doesn't need them. But it's not the small businesses that are shuffled around, it's big businesses that lose their ability to hold onto jobs since they operate at strict industrial numbers. Funnily enough I grew up in a minuscule town in Texas that for the longest time didn't have any big businesses. Granted it also had 3 liquor stores and no grocery stores, but the point is now there's 2 dollar store style grocery stores opening up there (which is kind of dumb as the town doesn't even have a thousand people and the stores are literally right next to each other). But all that and I look at this ultra MAGA enclave that has a municipal electric co-op putting in municipal fiber optic internet and sit green with envy at their socialism.I feel like I should point out that it seems like damn near every small town has some sort of dollar store while most small towns I drive through as a regular basis in Montana doesn't need them.
Seems relevant to the conversation. Most small towns around me have the same "looking to hire $15/hr" fast food joints as in the cities. Higher minimum wage has definitely not hurt rural montana
EDIT: Well, until enough white flight conservatives immigrate and fuck up our bare minimum of labor protections anyway
Eating's cheating.Granted it also had 3 liquor stores and no grocery stores
They can't help themselves, they're Americans and republicans at that.![]()

Well, the predecessor to CPS did some fucked up shit that makes the CPS looked like saints.Yeah, that's a bad take on their part. At the same time, CPS can be misused. Once upon a time I dated a woman who was part of CPS for a chunk of her career and started working in a different county because she was averse to the way her previous county used CPS as a way to dodge silly things like due process.
The short version is that CPS is a mandated reporter of a wide range of things they might observe, and that reporting can be used as grounds for probable cause or a warrant. Refusing CPS entry is also grounds for them to take your kids (with police assistance if necessary), at least long enough for an investigation. So if police suspected someone with kids might be up to some kind of crime but can't get a warrant for a search, they'd send an "anonymous" tip into CPS - so the alleged criminals would either have to submit to the CPS visit (who is mandated to report what they see) or have their children taken for the investigation, which gets police in the house anyways.
There've also been some scattered cases of CPS being used ideologically, based less on actual risk or harm to children and more to the beliefs of those involved - for example there have been at least two kids taken by CPS that were seemingly targeted because the kids were given white supremacist names.
Oh agreed. It needs reformed (like basically everything regarding family law does). It serves a function, a necessary function, but it gets misused and abused a lot.But don't take out the CPS just because you are trying to rectify this stereotype
Which is probably exactly what happened, as the current draft in the first post here has language about reforming or potentially replacing the organization, and the language of "eventual abolishment of CPS" came from a different document 2 years ago.Oh agreed. It needs reformed (like basically everything regarding family law does). It serves a function, a necessary function, but it gets misused and abused a lot.
But I imagine if summed up that position as "Disband CPS" that people would take issue with it, assuming I mean something different than that, and if I told them what I really meant they'd tell me it was a terrible and ineffective slogan at communicating that idea.
So much for defined gender roles. So much for freedom and speech and expressing of who you are. Their interperson of the American way, is only their personal way. The my way or the highway attitude. It's sad and pathetic. I know this is not the America Armstrong wanted, and he's from Texas.![]()

They could always not raise prices, but businesses are always looking for any excuse to raise prices. Only to show their true colors when the excuse they made to up prices becomes no longer a factor and they almost never lower prices in response. Gas and housing is disproportionately expensive because businesses that control such have come to realize they can get away with doing that.3. The problem in the U.S. doesn't seem to be availability of goods, but rather the pricing and speculation by suppliers of goods, both gas and housing is disproportionately expensive compared to the amount available, but somehow the prices just keep on going up.
4. The middle class might be willing to be less frugal, sure, but store owners could always just not raise prices, that isn't really on the people buying, that's on the people selling.
