hey if anyone of you guys play tf2, do you hate the melee weapons?
Nope.

Here's a group of guys who might know though. ;) [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/groups/view/The-Escapist-Team-Fortress-2-Group-PC]
I hate the fact that my computer lags when I play that game and that I very rarely can connect to games. And often when I do connect to games, TF2 loses contact with Steam or something, so I can only use the standard weapons. :(
I'm having problems connecting to the Escapist's TF2 servers, I get some sort of connection error :(

alpha.tf2.escapistmagazine.com:27015 or
uk.tf2.escapistmagazine.com:13013

Both seem to be working fine here. You may have problems with the UK one as it's often full.

Why would you use anything besides the ax-tinguisher?
Because the homewrecker removes sappers and I like being kredit to team?
Then pick engie. Really, your wrench is just as good for saving buildings, and if you put your own buildings up somewhere nearby you'd be doubly effective than a pyro. If you're on defense on the last point a pyro with homewrecker can be useful deflecting ubers and stopping spies, but giving up such killing power isn't usually worth it.
Plus I usually go for a puff n' sting whenever I can and when I pull out the homewrecker by accident I facepalm every time.

Yay, adding the servers to favourites finally worked! I've tried several times before but Steam couldn't connect or something.
*Goes off to play TF2*

I like them.

Although since I mostly play Heavy I don't get much use out of them.

You certainly don't have to convince me to play engineer. It's all I play. On the off chance do go pyro though I prefer as support, IE blasting ubers, spy checking, and sapper removal.

I would rather all games go back to having melee weapons as an actual slot rather then this "quick knife" type thing that Halo seems to have spawned. In COD4/MW2/BC2/etc how on earth can a normal soldier pull out his knife, stab someone and then put it away again, with out dropping his gun at all, instantly killing.

Infact, knife instakills piss me off, especially when someone has just ran 20m to get to me while I shoot them in the face.

I don't mind a weak melee attack with the but of a gun or pistol whip... but quick changing instadeath just pisses me off!
I think knife-instakills are realistic.
If you get your neck slit open, you will die instantly.
And I'm sure real soldiers are trained to pull out their knives quickly and put them away again without dropping their weapons.
Buy that token, you get shot in the chest and you are going down. Not dead (necessarily), but your ass is going to met ground. And no, they don't die "instantly" when you slit the throat, they generally clutch their throats and make a gasping weezing sound as they try to plug the hole that is now in their throat. It's defiantly not quick and clean like the movies make it out to be.

Because having a gun and a melee weapon out at the same time would make you overpowered. That's what makes it balanced. Also, because rocket launchers hurt you if you shoot them from a foot away and the melees are a nice alternative to killing yourself. They're a different approach.

Also, kills and points don't matter in Team Fortress 2.

If you notice in MW2, for example, they DO die clutching their throats, so meh.
And not necessarily about 1 bullet in the chest. It's like people being shot in the stomach - they quite often are able to stumble around for a bit and do things.
Hence why I said chest and not stomach. The impact alone will knock you down (Not send you flying, just knock you off balance/make your legs give out)

Hmmmm....
I do love them, a lot.
I also even use most of the default melee weapons, Bonesaw and not Ubersaw, Shovel and not equalizer, alright the Eyelander/Bottle isn't a solid choice for me yet, Kukri and not that bleeding monstrosity, Fist over KGB. Sandman and Homewrecker usually have the advantage though

It's a shame most of them will sit out of a fair melee fight and just shoot me while backing off... or eat a crit bonesaw in the face while attempting to obviously sticky trap me.

(Bleeding monstrosity because I enjoy spy a lot, and not only you're doomed once you're hit, but are almost completely blind now)

Personally I enjoy using the Axtinguisher, which is little used tactic, but lighting a Heavy on fire and then smacking him a bit is surprisingly effective and you might just survive the ordeal, contrary to what would happen if you'd just try to burn him to a nice crisp.

It's my personal opinion that anyone who plays a pyro and DOES NOT USE the Homewrecker is doing it wrong.
The homewrecker is really fun to use, and I have it equipped on my pyro class.
Once, I leaped from one of the tall buildings in Goldrush and landed right on an enemy engineer's sentry, then smashed it

I don't quite know, but I don't think the sentry had rockets yet, and a medic had been healing me until I jumped, so I had a lot of health

i quite often play a defensive pyro; so the homewrecker is vital in helping out engies after i take out the spy. Also, the tribalman's shiv is a huge part of the way i play sniper. Finally, as many people have pointed out, the spy's whole strategy usually revolvs around the knife (and the new one with the polycount pack does look amazing too) so there are some very good uses for melee weapons in TF2, they just tend to be relatively situational.

At close range my Ubersaw packs a lot moire of a punch than the Blutsauger needles ever could. Not that I don't like the Blutsauger.
