Maybe not Alexandria surrounded by a torch-wielding mob, but in my own experience, the civilized human being/keyboard banging monkey ratio is skewed a bit here. In the good direction.
Of course, most of my other experience with people talking to each other online comes from Youtube comments and Something Awful's Weekend Web, so I may just be full of bliss.

While the Escapist can periodically become a massive Asshat Fashion Show, I've yet to find anything to replace it. Can you suggest other forums that someone from the Escapist might enjoy? I'm totally serious, by the way, not calling you out. I love The Escapist for exactly the same reasons the OP does, but I'd like another rough-and-tumble yet thoughtful forum to go to on days when I get sick of wading through the hip-deep fuckwittery that periodically washes over this site.

That said, even the political and religious threads here are a few steps closer to real debate than just trading insults.

Well, spellcheck doesn't correct words that aren't misspelled; It would've been difficult to catch that without the red dotted lines underneath the word. Guess I'll just have to keep a better eye out!

Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying the Escapist sucks and that it is a terrible website. It's just not better than other websites. It's just different. Some people (like me) prefer it because it is different. But that doesn't make it superior.

I don't know of any other forums similar to the Escapist. There might be one floating around somewhere, but I can't be bothered to look for it.

No flame war is a good flame war. Honestly, in my eyes a witty insult is no better than a primitive one in a flame war. Both of them mean the same thing; you suck and I'm right.

Besides, this community has big problems with trolls sometimes. People here type out paragraphs of text in response to obvious trolls, which is just embarrassing. It's like they think the troll gives a damn.
