And the HEV suit doesn't do anything, I see Freeman bleeding from bullets anyway and all it does is protect him from radioactive crap. Why would anyone want a hazard suit over something that would make him practically indestructible and give him the ability to punch holes through walls?

Actually, if you've played the first game, the start of the game shows you that the HEV suit has reactive impact armor, automated medical systems and munitions monitoring.
