Terra's final boss in Birth By Sleep. It didn't help that I didn't understand how abilities worked in that game at the time.

GOOOOD that fight was torturous. I had a pretty good grasp of the combat system, but that fight is insanely prejudiced against you. His attacks cover half of the room, NOTHING takes off less than a third of your health, but do you know what really kills me about that fight? His soul has taken over the body you were using not five minutes ago, and he somehow manages to be about ten times stronger and have five times more health? How? I guess it shouldn't take more than thirty seconds for the soul of a dying man to adjust to an entirely new body? That was the most unbearably cheap enemy in the series.

That was one of my more enraged entries here, but I actually gave up and looked up the ending on Youtube, and... it's not even that good. *Sigh*

The Archdemon in Dragon Age. For some fucking stupid reason I decided it would be a good idea take him on with Sten, Alistair, and Dog. I still haven't beaten it to this day.

Oh my god that so god damn long. That was so torturous, and you had to start all over from the beginning every time.

Golbez in the DS version of Final Fantasy IV.
First off, there's a boss battle immediately before he shows up. Once he does, he wipes out everyone in your party except for Cecil. Then Rydia shows up, offering the only hope of defeating him (namely, summons), but also being grievously underleveled.
Almost immediately, she is killed, and reviving her puts Cecil at an extreme risk of dying.

But that's not really what makes it so difficult. The truth is:
a.) Summoning requires MP, and unless you bought ethers before going to the Underworld, you end up very quickly finding yourself without any way of casting magic.
b.) Golbez keeps switching his weakness and affinity, requiring you to cast Libra before attacking.
c.) If he changes affinity while you're waiting to cast a spell, your summon will heal his health by about 3000, undoing whatever damage you've done so far. Worst of all, if you've hit him with one summon already, you're screwed because Rydia, at this point, can only cast two before running out of MP.

I stopped playing this game for about a year because of this battle.

The final boss in Sonic Adventures 2, the Bio-Lizard.

Basically, two hits is death (since there aren't many rings), and he has hundreds of simultaneously hitting homing attacks.

Beat him once. And never will again.

the big orange dialga from pokemon mystery dungeon 2. pain in the ass. i never beat the guy, and after my 1500th attempt i declared the franchise was awful, the boss was overpowered, and it overall was a horrible sequel to an amazing game.
i don't play pokemon anymore.
Your serious right?
The boss was easy, just stun him (With a stun seed), walk across the room then fire ranged shit.

Also, the sequel was much better than the original IMO. ALOT better.

Well Xehanort was already powerful, it's just that Terra's body didn't have all that age to slow him down.
He's not as frustrating when you fight him again, though, as I managed to beat him in two or three attempts in Final Mix.

The last boss on Golden Axe for the Genesis was a MAJOR prick. His skeleton guards are pretty much unkillable (I think someone tested it and they have twice the health of the final boss). Get knocked down at all, and the arse casts 2 strong magic attacks which takes at least 3 bars of damage (you only get 5 if you up it in the options menu). You can only use magic once against him, but he has unlimited.

The final boss from Demon's Souls is a fucking nightmare, i died almost instantly every time i fought him (which was at least 40 times btw). There is also the fact that it takes about 10 minutes to get to him after each death, fighting quite a few tough enemies along the way.
The False King is not the last boss, the real last boss is a royal push over though.
To kill your guy I give you just this one crucial piece of advice, DOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOODDDDDGE!!!! Sacrifice protection for the ability to dodge better. Dodge whenever he looks like he is about to attack and take your time. Once you figure his attacks out, you can kill him fairly easily. Long ranged weapons like magic or bows are effective.

I just thought of another one. It's not really a boss battle but the effect was the same.

The asteroids shooting on Dead Space. Fuck. That.

I love MGS, so when MGS2 throws bullshit at me like say Vamp in that weird bubbly water room, after having to go at a snails pace for like 30 minutes to make sure Otacons sister doesn't drown because she's too lazy to smiw for herself that's pretty annoying.

Or in MGS3 when I had no damn clue how to kill The End, I couldn't find the bastard anywhere, turned off my playstation for a week came back and he'd died of old age (which was slightly degrading so I loaded up an old save and ended u beating him and getting his camo and rifle).

But by far the worst boss of them all was The Sorrow because again I had no clue what to do, I went to the bottom of the river, died and sat thinking shit, how do I get past this nonsense, restarting the mission again and again until finally i put my controller down and it bumped the R2 button and my inventory came up and I used the revival pill. A month of walking down that damn river...

We all have one, you know that boss that took you a million tries to beat or you still haven't beaten to this day? What is your One Boss? As for me, it's probably that giant SOB that comes out of the building in Devil May Cry 2, I still haven't beaten him.
Out of the building? Oh no, OP, he IS the building. But I'm getting off topic.

You know, there's a couple of these that I can think of from the Kingdom Hearts games. The first is Sephiroth, of course. Sorry, but that man is insane in those games. Fortunately, the only thing you get out of him is bragging rights. You don't NEED him for anything, or Kurt Zisa. Remember Kurt Zisa, the Heartless named after a contest winner? Well, I beat him, but I did not beat the Heartless at Big Ben. Needlessly-complex bosses are always on my NO list. Fortunately, they're optional, there because.

EDIT: Anyone else getting a "That girl!" vibe off of this thread?

Also, Elder Wyrm from FF12. That game was just all like, hey, you're level 20 something by this point? LEVEL 36 BOSS FIGHT LOLOLOLOLOLOLO. Dick move, Square.

The bossfight in Alpha Protocol where you fight a crazy Russian crackhead blasting 80's music. After playing I paused the game, quit, declared it bullshit and sold it to pre-order Resistance 3.

EDIT: NINJA'D
THIS. I hated that guy so bad. I got incredibly pissed off trying to beat him, more than I had in a long time. I played it the next day, and beat him eventually, but once I beat him it felt great. One of the great things about annoying bosses is you feel so much better defeating one of them than any other bosses.

Mizar in Jet Force Gemini. No matter how hard I tried and how much help I had from someone using the little support robot on controller #2, I could never beat him. And now I can't even go back and play the game at all because of how poorly the game has aged. It's mostly just the aiming: the cursor is constantly trying to snap back to the middle of the screen instead of just having the entire camera move with the cursor like in modern games. I had been hoping for a modern release like other Rare games got on XBLA, but after seeing how the rerelease of Perfect Dark had the same shit aiming in its demo, I no longer care what they do with the game.
..You can go into the options and switch the control schemes. In fact, Recon controls are Halo controls. Works perfectly.

MY BOSS:

Yeah, Azel, I'm looking at you. Jesus Christ! You have thaaaaaat much health?!?!?! And you dodge all of my normal hits?!?!!? Maaaaaaaan. Took me 26 tries to beat Azel.
