I generally get it from games I get really into, and strangely for me those kind of games are generally puzzle-based. Riven was probably the biggest for me, because I lost myself in that game for a rather long time, but enjoyed it thoroughly. More recently, when I spent two days playing Machinarium about 5 hours each day and then when I was done was so sad I had finished it that early.

I think this has a lot to do with the complete lack of replayabilty of these games too. I can play through half-life 2 again and still enjoy it, but I'll never be able to completely forget the puzzles I've solved.

Batman: Arkham Asylum.... No replay value whatsoever... Unless you count running around a totally empty world searching fro trophies replay value.. (I don't),

Actually, BioShock 2 does have some nice parachutes:

A) The ending is better this time around, thereby leaving the player feeling more fulfilled.
B) There's a multiplayer mode that has a whole Rapture Civil War scenario dressing so once you finish the game you've actually a whole other activity you can participate in.

As for games that leave me feeling empty... you know, it's really hard to put my finger on. There's different kinds of lack of contentedness, you know? Picky player like me tends to find faults in the majority of games he plays.

I used to get this with the Ratchet & Clank games really badly. With the newer ones though i was just kind of happy to get them out of the way, got a little repetitive towards the end.

Okami just made me sad : ( we'll never get that sequel it suggested. They're making one, but it's pretty much just a shitty copy of the original. For the DS so it'll look like a shitty copy of a shitty copy.
The one coming out for DS is actually a direct sequel, you just play as Ammy's wolf puppy son. Although I agree, it will be somewhat limited by the DS' graphics potential...or lack thereof.

OT: Okami did this, so did KH, the original NWN kind of left me with this feeling as well.

Eternal Sonata.

Seriously, what the hell? I'd loved the game right until the end, and I just thought "Awwh that sucked". Half of it didn't even make sense, there were so many loose ends left untied. Then again, I had the 360 version.

Almost every S.T.A.L.K.E.R. game. I mean, really, WHAT THE HELL JUST WENT ON? They always end with a climax and increase of events, rather then the unfolding of events.

i have given up on game endings living up to expectations. when it is a really good game with a compelling story, it is near impossible to make and ending that will live up to all of the grand thoughts in every gamers head. i just try to enjoy the ride and move on after the game is done.
It sounds like you play games for the right reasons. You enjoy the exciting parts but don't remeber a game for its bad parts. Damn i wish i could do that with more games but its just so difficult to do with some.
just start playing games to enjoy playing them. playing games to finish them is like eating a piece of pie because you enjoy washing the plate you ate it off of. and keep in mind that the ending is always going to dissapoint. i have only seen one perfect ending to any story i have ever heard, and it wasn't in a video game.
