Meta Ridley in Metroid Prime. The game wasn't easy but Ridley was just such a huge step up in difficulty for me - may have been just me - that I never actually completed the game, though I did absolutely everything else I could possibly do on Tallon IV.

Ummm...I need context. What game is this?

Morrowind. Cliffracers are notorious for their speed, preventing you from fleeing without some special potion or spell; their line of sight, since they're high up in the air; their frequency, since they're everywhere; and the horrible screeching noise they make. They aren't what you'd call hard for any but the lowest level characters, they're more of an annoyance that necessitates you stopping what you're doing to kill them every few paces. The absolutely terrible combat of Morrowind doesn't help in this regard either.

Play Morrowind and you'll have a powerful hatred for them by the end.

- The one enemy in Metroid Prime that makes me wonder if it's worth playing again is the bloody ghosts. They pop up way too often and are always tedious to fight. They have one weakness and good health, they always come in 3, they always make the room very dark, they can stun you for a short time, they are very fast, popping up nearly anywhere (including right on your back) and it always takes ages to bring them down, even for bloody speed runners! Not to mention they always re-spawn in some of the main rooms. I HATE THEM!!!

Play Super Metroid. A much better game with no anal enemy's.

I still have nightmares from the Mini-gunners in Infamous: Second Son. They had the aim/range of snipers, the firing speed of a mini-gun, and the armor of a tank. On easy they could drain your health in seconds. They could also only be killed by getting close with a quick time event.

I'm playing Baldur's Gate 2: Enhanced Edition right now, so I'm going to go with Umber Hulks. They aren't at all difficult to kill, but if I wasn't anticipating them and they get that confusion on me, it's just a time sink as I wait for 3 of my characters to stop running around.

There did seem to be alot of encounters, yes. This was actually quite helpful right before a boss, but I can see where that gets annoying anywhere else. My thing is that because I've played a number of Final Fantasy games, all the Persona games, and SMT: Nocturne...I'm hilariously use to grind.

Yeah, Skies did require some level of grind, but not anywhere near as much as the encounters merited. Just trying to get discoveries and such, I ended up being overleveled without grinding. That's where the encounters really start to get tiresome, because it's possible to surb stomp the game at that point (save a couple of specific encounters, plus I think the bounties in Legends scale). And then if you throw in enemies like Loopers who can already be a pain....

I really do love the game. But the encounter system practically is an enemy in itself.

One of the things that always discouraged me on the first Infamous was the way even the lowliest peon seemed to have gone to some sort of marksman academy. I can't even imagine what an armoured mini gunner would be like, that in mind.

The only other InFamous I've played was First Light, and I remember some real pain in the neck enemies in that, but can't remember specifically what they were.

Also snipers from the Arkham series; they're just a pain in the ass when I'm minding my own business then suddenly a chunk of my health is gone and I'm like "what?"

Taken Goblins from Destiny. Sure, the Taken Captains are bad, but Taken Goblins chain. I've got a boss who's immune to damage because a Goblin is shielding them, and that Goblin is being shielded by another Goblin etc etc etc, until I find the start of a chain, which is a Taken Goblin running an auto dealership in Topeka, Kansas, and now I've got to roll up the line an the way back, after which the boss will just spawn more.

And yes, i also gotta go with these. I've played DN3D not that while ago and i was astounded how much of pain in the ass these flying shits could be. Nearly turned this shooter into a survival horror.

- Those motherfucking goddamn asshole hammer using cyborgs in Metal Gear Rising. The best part about getting ripper mode is getting to break their armour.
- The cliff lurker enemy type from Diablo II. Not difficult to kill them, not easy either. They had the bad habit of recoiling every single time you hit them, so you couldn't kill them quickly.
- From Diablo II as well, the fuckmothering undead fetishes. "Hey!", said a random employee at Blizzard, "lets make an enemy that takes half of your life bar if you kill it!". Somehow this fuck kept their job and, amazingly, the enemy didn't get shafted either. Say whatever you want about Diablo III, at least these loathsome cunts don't show their bony faces in that one.

Binding of Isaac Rebirth has several that feel like that, though Walking Hosts are the most terrible. They slowly walk to wards you, completely invincible unless they're shooting at you. Way too often you have to fight several of them at the same time, along with something else in the room, like Turret Grimace.

Baby Long Legs and Mullibooms (especially if you're playing as the Lost) are also on the list for me.

OT: So your playing Metal Gear Solid V:The Phantom Pain. You've spent the past 15 minutes or so, sneaking around, taking dudes out and getting a feel for the area.

What's this? Oh no. "Boss, get down." An enemy sniper. Suddenly, the whole base is out for your head.

This is not the annoying part. Rough, but Phantom Pain allows some ways to handle little fuck up as long as you don't care about ranking. So you move to Retre- strategically relocate when suddenly, BANG! Face meet floor. Meet Mr. Shotgun Asshole.

Try to get up? Bang again, Snake once again gets reacquainted with the ground. Hammer X? The Sprint Button? Square? BANG, BANG, BANG! "Arrgh", "Boss what's wrong?".

Select restart at checkpoint, see the beginning of the mission again, curse, throw controller throw TV screen.

Fuck em. They are on my immediate kill-on-sight list on what is normally a non-lethal playthrough.

Second place goes to Riot Suit soldiers. Enjoyed getting headshots by being good at aiming around helmets, armour and riot shields? Too bad, cover the bastards head to toe in bullet stopping stuff. If you're aiming for a non-lethal run and get spotted by them, sit on C4 and end it quicker.

And Riot Soldiers with shotguns? Very bad for my stress levels. Thank God for the rocket arm.

Finally killed the bastard after training up to get 40 vitality so I can tank his hits (if ever taken).

Any kind of enemy that explodes, be they those psychos in borderlands, banelings, what have you. The running theme for enemies that explode on you has generally been "they only explode once so we have to make it count" and it frustrates me to no end because getting knocked into fight for your life or just straight up dying because of one of those guys isn't any fun at all.
The only time I've seen it done well is Boomers from Left 4 Dead, its still very bad when a Boomer explodes on you or hits you but its not the end of the world on its own. And that's where I think they should be.

Ridley was pretty hard when I first encountered him because of his ramming attack. But as another pointed out you can either use missiles or super missiles to take down his chest.

You can also stun-lock him by sending charged plasma beam shots at his chest and then at his mouth when it opens. Saves a crap ton of frustration on hard difficulty.

There's scant chances where you must fight them to get out. With the exception of Hall of Elders, where you have to kill them all in order to unlock the morph ball slots.

They're annoying, but they're not nearly as unpredictable as the Dark Commando Pirates in Prime 2. Nearly every encounter with them in the Torvus Bog involves them locking the door until you've killed them all. At least with the Ghosts you can kill them with a couple of super missile hits on normal difficulty, and they stick around long enough to land a hit. The Pirates take a massive amount of light beam ammo to kill, and they teleport so much. They can also melee swipe you when they're invisible and have EMP grenades that rock the HUD like crazy.

When I first played the game I didn't understand what all the hate was about; when I finished, I finally appreciated exactly what Saint Jiub had done for the world.

I've been playing Saints Row: Gat Out of Hell, and the teleporting snipers have been a pain in my neck. Not so much the hardest enemy in the game, but like buzzing gnats I don't want to deal with. Which got me thinking that Saints Row has had a few of those in their games. Most recently, I was annoyed by the rolling alien tanks of IV more than anything else the game could deal up. It's not so much that it's hard, just time wasting. I could be super stomping things, but instead I'm strafing for weak points. 3's was the teleporting Deckers with the shock hammers.

Jolene from Legend of Zelda Phantom Hourglass. She's a pain in the ass, always hounding your ship and torpedoing you, even at fucking BOARDING RANGE. I swear, every damn time I boot up that game, she's always there, and always a total arse. The worst part? well, there used to be incentive to take her out: linebeck, your ship's captain, would pay you rupees to defend the ship. Until a certain point anyway. Then you get jack shit.

They lock down the room I think 5 times, which is over kill to me. And even then, it does become so dark I can't see where I'm going to escape, and sometimes they will pop up right front if you when you're making an attempt and stun your ass.

As for Prime 2, honestly can't remember much of it now, mainly because I found it to be a chore in the end. I'd say the weapons and warp gates were annoying enough by themselves.
