I don't know why I found them soo difficult. They killed me probably 50 times before I finally beat them.

Honourable mention to Agni and Rudra from DMC3, who can claim the life of a controller after I broke one in a fit of rage.
i must ask the both of you, was this the Special Edition or original release of DMC3?
I think original, but this was some years ago and I don't have the game to hand so can't be sure. In all honesty I just sucked at the game, not my finest moment in my personal gaming history.

While I'm posting again I'll add one I forgot to mention earlier. The solo battle with Wiegraf in Final Fantasy Tactics caused me all sorts of trouble. That boss actually made me restart the game due to the fact I couldn't beat him.

ah, that ones harder, by virtue of 'normal' actually being the hard setting, don't feel bad, pretty sure that game kicked every ones ass across the parking lot

Also, Why did everyone find Seymore Flux( Mt Gagazet) So hard, was it the Zombie/Fulllife, or Cross Slash, or what?
Zombie/Fulllife, Cross Slash and the Annihiliation interrupt bullshit he does when he drops below 10,000 HP which instakills the whole party - remember, you can only do 9,999 damage without ultimate weapons/limit breaks. Plus you have to sit through a long, boring, unskippable cutscene every time you reload your game.

In hindsight he's probably easy if you have at least one 'ultimate' weapon at that point, but I didn't. Eventually I had to grind until I found a Poisonball for Wakka, which I had to use carefully to make Seymour Flux drop below 10,000 HP during HIS turn, so I would be able to finish him on my first attack on my turn.
I dont think it was physically possible to have built a ultimate by that point.

Also, Guarding is awesome.
I think it's possible to have completed Tidus' weapon by that point, assuming you could beat the Chocobo race on the Calm Lands.
His Crest is in Zanarkand, and i think theres a guy standing in the way of the powerup-location in macalania before you do the main quest.

Have you ever been playing a game where a boss suddenly shows up and just kicks your ass? I'm not talking final bosses, just bosses that you run into in the middle of a game and they just own you. Repeatedly.

I am playing Dark Souls. I was bopping and and having fun. Then I ran into the Orstein and Smough boss fight. They began destroying me. No build up to them, they just show up and start beating me down. I've died against them more times than any other boss combined. And I feel that that isn't going to change anytime soon.

Discussion: Do you have a personal That One Boss? Any painful stories to share?

TV Tropes page coining the phrase:

I havent made it to Ornstein yet but Ser Wolf surprised me a bit. He kills me in nearly one friggin hit with that damn sword.

Oh sure, now everyone talks about Boost Guardian now that I mentioned him. (j/k)

Here's another insane one, and unlike Boost Man I can't defeat him- Zophar in Lunar 2, 2nd phase.

He has five individual parts, each one with more HP than any boss before him has. Each one gets a separate attack, usually some kind of elemental spell hitting in the hundreds when your party members have 600 HP at most if you've been grinding. Moreover, his head is protected by the four hands and periodically gives Zophar's trademark laughter before blasting one target for over 5000 damage, guaranteed instant kill.

I looked around and there is exactly ONE video on YouTube of someone actually beating him. It's the length of four videos just for the 2nd phase, and many times the player comes close to defeat (3 out of 5 party members dead), only to get lucky as he revives them. White Dragon Shield seems to be the best way of dealing with all the damage floating around, but I still don't think I'll ever beat him myself.

Oh, and before anyone says anything, Zophar's not the final boss. He has all the trappings of one, but he isn't the end of the game- there's several dungeons and bosses after him before you can get your happy ending.

Also, can you actually read the Japanese text or do you just know the game well enough to play it blind?
I'm learning Japanese right now. I can read most of it, including all of the bonus content, but some of the stuff from the original KH, I can't understand. I have to call back to my memory of playing the English version, or in extreme cases, use an online guide as a reference.

Shows what I know. It's funny, you can't even obtain all the ultimate weapons until the game is basically over. I finished FFX in 70 hours without them and thought I was being pretty thorough. I went back to my pre-endgame save and played up to around 120 hours. I still don't think I did everything (I attempted the stupid as fuck butterfly catching about 50 times, so I'm counting it even if I never actually beat it and got Kimahri's weapon).

In short, FFX is retarded.

Star Ocean Till The End of Time, Leaf Wind boss kid thing.

Seriously, you're on your way to kill the dragon god thing, and this little 10 year old boy jumps out from behind the corner. He was 5x harder than the boss, and since it was a directors cut addition, had absolutely no purpose to the story, and said like 2 words. Horrible horrible boss.

Its hard to think of one in particular, but some of the bosses in Vindictus have extremely cheap attacks. that game in general like to constantly take control away from you and pass it off as a game mechanic. of course, when you are unable to act momentarily, the bosses will immediately single you out of the group.

Kingdom Hearts - Olympus Coliseum - Ice Titan & Sephiroth
That and RAAM on the hardest difficulty - I could never find a good enough second player to help me out.
I could actually beat the Ice Titan... after 20 or 30 attempts, if not more. I just never, EVER, defeated Sephirot. Seriously, how was I supposed to even hit that bastard?. I also agree with RAAM, the most difficult boss fight the whole series has ever seen; for shame Epic, how could you make such a shitty boss fight in GOW2?, I still haven't played 3, so I still can make an opinion on that.

Other than that, most recently in Cave Story, trying to beat Ballos. He's the real last boss and it's a nightmare to just get to him, seriously Megaman would be ashamed of himself after playing this level, but the pain doesn't stop there, if you're able to get past that section, you get to fight with the man himself, with his fucking 4 transformations, one harder than the last one.

I've been trying to beat that bastard all week and I just can't...

Also Vergil in DMC3 comes to mind, especially his last boss version.
