Polygamy is no longer a thing in mormonism. Actually, it's been not a thing for some 200 years or so.
Military stuff in general being horrifically wrong in this or that movie. Anything, from a bad salute to bass-ackwards squad tactics to assault rifles with the infinite clip cheat on... yeah, there's a really long list.
I've moved beyond the typical "their there they're" shtick. However, "would/could/should of" is unacceptable. I try really, really, really hard not to insult anyone's intelligence, but anyone who says "should of" I automatically think they're dumber than a sack of hammers.

You know, the topic is called "That ONE mistake" yet I put three. Well, at least I stayed on topic this time, so that's something.

You know, I could care less about how good people are at grammar.
I mean your just being pedantic. It's no their fault that alot of them can't spell properly or use correct grammar.
I bet you to has made an mistake or too in you're life.
Maybe there spellcheck went rouge on them and spelled out the wrong word.
I dunno...
I'm defiantly sure that most of them are not doing it on purpose tho.

You know...

Except me.

But seriously though I don't really care about those small blunders any more. As long as it's comprehensible I'm fine with it.

My name is Aidan, but without fail it gets spelt Aiden. I normally don't object too much, but particularly when it's on certificates and awards it gets quite annoying. It becomes even worse when my friend, named Aiden has his name spelt Aidan. It's happened before, and it's quite incredible that they can get both of our names wrong at the same time.

Oh, the 'defiantly' thing does rile me so. Especially because it's generally otherwise alright people who do it.

Specific to me, I'm about the only person of the staff where I work (a nursing home) that can pronounce the names of the residents. One, whose name is "Walters" is constantly being called "Waters", they can't speak clearly enough to differentiate between "Wise" and "Wyers", and names like "McSparron" and "de la Morvionnnais" just don't get said at all. They go "the new lady...in room 5" and I have no idea because I just work in the kitchen.

But then we get a resident whose name is "Brkljac" and I finally meet my match. Thankfully I haven't had to refer to her yet.

When someone can't describe why they like or dislike something. They default to empty, vague words like "good" and "bad" or words like "awesome" and "sucks". Come on guys. If you want me to see your opinion as something to take seriously then learn how to critique something properly. Until then, I'm going to come off as a elitist while you come off as stupid.

I see a lot of people ripping on spelling and grammar here. Which I can understand since they are important. Little note: english is not my native language. It is dutch so forgive my spelling.

back OT: Mine is people ripping on MY spelling when they fail miserable at everything else. To illustrate: I ask them one simple question -> what is the lightest atom?
Answer: eeeeeuuuuuuuuhhhhhhhhhhhh.... helium?
My reply: NO YOU DUMB FUCK! It's Hydrogen! You are ripping on MY spelling but YOU wouldn't even know how to find your own ass eventho your head is firmly lodged into it!

I have other simple questions like: point out your liver, who was stalin? (I shit you not, 3/4 do not know that), what does cpu stand for?,...

I love the CPU question because a lot of people go: my gigahertz is bigger then your gigahertz so my computer is better...
*sigh*
Go fuck yourself so very very very much. You do not know what CPU or gigahertz mean so go suck on a pacifier in the corner and whine about my spelling some more.

Though, I do like to make fun of all the red makeup characters running around in D&D.
Add the confusion with then/than and those who insist on saying of when they should use have and this is basically what I gets me rolling.

The two that bug me are "defiantly" when they mean "definitely", and "I could care less" when they mean "I couldn't care less". If you say that you "could care less", you're probably hurting your own argument.
Ah, but if you are using google chrome to autocorrect spelling, it will always gives you defiantly, instead of definitely, thus some people think it's the correct spelling by how similar they are spelt.

You know a Chrome user sometimes, just by that even.
I often feel spell check has made me dumber. Sure, I do spell most of my words correctly and use them correctly most of the time, but when there are words I rarely use or rarely use in writing at least then I sometimes manage to mess up just because I spell it wrong and stumbles on to another word which is in the dictionary. Being someone who is relatively proud of having correct grammar and spelling even on the internet you can bet that I will defiantly edit my post and fix it.
I did spell defiantly on purpose, now it's your chance to guess if I really did mean definitely

Since I've got into reptiles, hearing the whole "My brothers girlfriends sisters friends grandmothers dog had a snake, and one day it was lying beside them in bed because it was measuring them up to eat them!" story. Especially with all the horror stories going around at the minute with all the snake escapes and the python attack on two children.

Yes, snakes like all animals can be dangerous when not treated with respect. but 1) You get FAR more deaths and injuries by dogs each year, and no one proposes a ban on them? No, because they're too cute and cuddly.
2) think about it. if a snake 'measured up' it's meal in the wild, it'd starve to death. It's prey isn't going to just sit around and wait for it to eat it. Most snakes aren't big enough to eat a human anyway. Maybe something like an anaconda.. but not most other snakes.

You beat me to it OP with the whole "defiantly" thing. It's not just a spelling error, it's an actual word with a much different meaning. I just typed "defiantly" into Google and one of the first links was someone asking the difference between the two, like they're just two different ways to spell the word, ugh...

Rouge Leader was awesome. Much better than Rouge Squadron 3, Rosacea Strike.

Screw you, Firefox, Google says 'rosacea' is spelled right.

About spelling and grammar: English is not everyone's native language, so don't be so harsh about even minor mistakes. Some people are real dicks about that. Feel free to complain about my English if your German is better than mine though.

People that use 'lol'. If I found your previous statement/sentences funny, I'll laugh myself, do not put me through the text form of a laugh track.

It just cheapens what you're trying to say. Lol.

See.

May fictional god help you if you actually say 'lol' instead of laughing or chuckling, it gives me the universal authority to have you beaten senseless.

When people say 'or no' instead of 'or not'. It leaves me feeling like the sentence hasn't ended yet as well as being intuitively incorrect. "Would you like some cake or no?" or no what?! D:<

To be fair, my mum goes through all the people in the family before she gets to mine... If it's family/family friends that do it, I wouldn't be surprised.

OT: What gets me is when say, I write a comment on a friends FB status and one of their friends addresses me but misspells my name.
IT'S RIGHT THERE. NEXT TO MY PICTURE. COPY PASTA IF YOU HAVE TO!
Emiilliie, Emillie, Emile, Emly IS NOT MY NAME! *angry face*
Emile, huh?
*looks at name by post*
EeveeElectro, huh?
*pauses*
...
Looks pretty similar to Emily to me :)

OT: It's not really what people say, but it annoys me no end when I see a language listed as "English" with the US flag next to it and then the other option is "English(UK)". Other than that I guess it's standard spelling for me.
EDIT: Actually something else that annoys me is when people try to abbreviate but it's practically useless. So anyone who physically says "OH EM GEE" when it is the same damn number of syllables as "Oh my God" really grinds my gears.

You're not allowed to be a Grammar Nazi if you misspell "Rogue."
Maybe that's not a typo. Maybe this makes BlazeRaider so mad, he has the urge to put on lipstick and blush and just go nuts.

On topic, I agree about using the whole "text shorthand" in non-texting environments. It actually doesn't save time and creates more confusion because most people have to ask for clarification.

Case in point: I had a chat window open with someone who typed "u nd 2 let ppl know."

When I asked what the "nd" was, the person said it was her shorthand for "need".

Really? Not typing those two "e"s saved that much time?

You...
Must. Repress. Anger.

EDIT: In hindsight, it was inevitable someone would do that.
I'm still trying to determine if the bolded part is intentional....Rouge means "red", as in the color, people. Rogue means "dishonest or unprincipled" and would be the correct term.

There's a lot of little mistakes, they're/there/their, its/it's, you're/your and such that don't necessarily make me rage, but they do make me instantly think a bit less of the writer (if English is their native language).

I say "I could care less. I'd have to try really really hard but I could."

Would that piss you off too?

Meh I get that all the time. Normally from family who will go through everybody else and the dog before they get to my name.

More on topic, when people use the word scientific to describe something (normally a survey) that really wasn't scientific at all. When a educational book (like my last history textbook) doesn't use references. I don't really care what they are I would just like to know that you aren't just pulling these statements out of your ass!

I'm not that bothered by it. A huge amount of people on the internet doesn't speak English as a first language(including myself), believe it or not. However, what does bothers me is that sometimes when I come across a person with really bad grammar, and decide to check where they live, I often find that they're from USA. I assume most of them are pretty young though.

I'd say the one I dislike seeing the most is people using "your" instead of "you're" and vice versa. Can only imagine how much it hurts to read that when you're from an English speaking country.
