Ninja'd. Damn. Although I would go one further and say Vincent D'Onofrio's last scene in the movie is probably where the movie should have ended. Yeah, it was only 45 minutes long, but at least it was an original film up until that point.

Leon: The Professional and one of the first scenes with Gary Oldman made the movie amazing. The rest was quite boring [Flameshield].

Blue Velvet and either of the two scenes that play Roy Orbison's "In Dreams" make you fear Dennis Hopper (Then he does Super Mario Brothers and makes you laugh).

Dark City The Epic Final Battle. Epic Battle is Epic.

All I could think of with the title is Evil Dead tree rape.

Although, it is more entertaining to see everyone else's reaction to it who hasn't seen it.

The new Predators film is full of these... Sort of a mash up between seeing a Predator on Predator fight or the Sword duel with the Predator.

The Protector (one-take fight): This is much more impressive to movie nerds than other people. Sometimes appreciating why a scene is SOOOO awesome requires at least a cursory understanding of the craft of movie making, but if appreciating that a scene is awesome forces you to be aware of the film-making process, most people aren't going to get it. This scene is slow-paced and plodding, even by 70's kung fu standards. Because of the way my brain has been trained by modern cinema, rather than thinking "holy crap, they're doing all this in one take", when they didn't cut as he went up the stairs, my first thought was "What the hell is going on? I can't see anything from this angle".
Try watching that as a film student, amateur director and a martial artist (who also studies Muay Thai (or Muy Thai as Bob spells it)) that scene has been put on my top ten for best ever scenes filmed... I watched that and I almost drooled. Takes more talent than people would realise to pull that off, not just having the camera in the perfect positions at the perfect time. No, the choreography, the timing of the actors had to be perfect in order to pull that off, not one goof, not one mistake... missing a move or anything... Had to be perfect and it was.

Though sadly, to my friends who aren't media savvy... They don't really see the big deal.
... which was pretty much what I was saying. If you force yourself to, or are trained so that you naturally look at things from a particular point of view, it's amazing. If you're a casual viewer, it's kind of boring. I'm a physician, so I have to force myself to try to see it the way a film student, amateur director, or martial artist would.

If the majority of intelligent people who don't eat, breathe, and sleep movies or martial arts have to force themselves to see merit in a scene, the director is trying too hard. He's doing it to show off to his peers, rather than trying to make a good scene.

I love The Lost World: Jurassic Park!

Sure, it makes no sense and the plot is nonexistent, but damn two T-rex's are better than one!

I don't know, the blowjob/hacking into pentagon/at gun point scene in Swordfish is still the only part that sticks out in my mind (as ridiculous as that scene was).

Hallie Berrie was just some jungle fever Hollywood was experiencing at the time out of white guilt. Oh, and her funbags were so overrated....=P

Remember all those titles Bruce Lee and Chuck Norris won away from movie martial arts, in the real world of competative fighting? What, niehter ever won any? Not one competition, title, or tournament? Not a single one? Wow, you mean it was all fake?
Chuck Norris actually won about 30 tournaments over the course of his martial arts career. His fighting record (although there are some disagreements as to which fights should be included) has been estimated at 183-12-2.

Bruce Lee's fighting career was hindered by the fact that he was so famous by the time China let him out of the box that most of his fights were arranged. That being said, if you can find a single quote from a single person who met Lee while he was alive who questioned whether he was a "real" fighter, I'll write you a ten page apology letter for what I'm about to say.

Don't post unless you have some idea, no matter how tiny, of what the fuck you're talking about.

28 Days Later. Though the whole movie was a cinematic masterpiece, as the film builds up to the tune of "In The House - In a Heartbeat, " it culminates in the most beautifully visceral moment I had at ever witnessed.
For those of who watched the film for its own merits, it was spectacular. For those of you who watched it for a zombie movie, it was "that one part."

I will offer the bar scene in 48 Hours. Nick Nolte plays a cop. Eddie Murphy plays a crook. They have 48 hours to do something. The rest of the movie is not very interesting. I won't say it's bad, but it was forgettable except for this one scene.

Nolte and Murphy arrive at a redneck bar to get some information to do something. As they pull up they argue over whether attitude and experience is more important than a badge and gun. Murphy borrows Nolte's badge and he then proceeds to stare down an entire bar full of good ol' boys.

It's a really cool scene and probably what causes the director to pick up the script. Walter Hill has made it his practice to buy scripts based on one stand out scene even if he thinks the rest of the script is crap. Alien being a notable example of this.

They Live! Most realistic fight scene ever

The grocery store is a near second place

Brazil : The Final Reveal.

Nikita : The escape from the restaurant.

Bladerunner : "I've seen things you wouldn't believe..."

Star Wars The original trench run

Probably more edited in later :)

For my money, the "one scene" that makes 2001 is not the trip-out sequence at the end, but the "Blue Danube" sequence. The one that occurs right /after/ the usually mentioned iconic moment (ape cracking skulls as Also Sprach Zarathustra blares away). The space station ballet is one of the most lyrical bits of filmmaking in Kubrick's films.

My thoughts on "that one legendary scene" in general are, if that's all a movie has going for it, it's going to fall prey to YouTube before too long.
You COMPLETELY missed the point of what he said in the rest of the review. The film is apparently FANTASTIC. If you are going to not watch it BECAUSE of two incredible women getting it on then you are worse than the people who do go see it for the exact same reason. Unless I misunderstood. In which case I am sorry.

Oh and by the way. Not all lesbians are hot. But those two are hot individually. Putting them together, connected at the tongue makes the hotness at least triple.

I have not watched the review; I was simply going off his comment in "Intermission," published before his review was.

Anyway... "Connected at the tongue," for me, is a negative thing. Scenes like this act as squick [http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/Squick] for me, neutralizing any physical attraction I might have felt towards either lady. So, yes. It's a bit of a deal-killer. I might watch the review; almost certainly not the movie.

This article really made me think of Bound. I'm surprised it wasn't mentioned since it ties in with your point about Black Swan. When it came out, all anybody would talk about is the lesbian sex scene. I remember Meg Tilly going on talk shows and only being asked about the sex scene. It gave the impression that the film was just a porn clip. Actualy I found it to be a gripping crime drama that kept me guessing the whole time. And had that really cool monochomatic set design.

But I bet it them some got butts in the seats that might have to see it otherwise.

Just want to say, Oldboy did this as well, and was also a very badass scene (probably not the most memorable, but up there). I'll even go so far as to say its better; reason being, it has the same slow pacing that PhiMed has an issue with, but it all adds to the tension of the moment. Or it could be I just REALLY like that scene (how often do you get to see hammer fights?).

EDIT: I'd add the link, but Im quite the forum noob. So go look it up, or help me out.

In the proper context, ie. B monster movie, The Lost World isn't that bad.

That was one of the lamest battle scenes I've ever seen. It was like a Harry Potter fight.

Bob sounds like a lecherous individual but the lesbian scene works within the confines of the story, especially as it mirrors the ballet Swan Lake. There isn't even any nudity in the scene.

Just remember this is melodramatic horror film.

If anybody is wondering what Jaa screams when he gets to the top of the stairs, it's translated as "Where's my elephant!?"

Because isn't that what we've all been asking in our own lives, "Where's my elephant?" I know that's what I've been asking.

The postman from Majora's Mask comes to mind, when he 'floats' out of town. But I suppose that doesn't count for this subject.
