Nearly every book I had was passed down, second hand, gifted, etc, so maybe this is normal pricing for hardbacks, but is it though? Seriously?

It might just be for that author? This listing of Blood Music is much cheaper, though still way above what it should be.

Only if the hardcover in question is like: Lord of the Rings or Dune, signed by their respective authors. For this kind of pulp fiction, it’s taking the piss in a big way unless they’ve gone hog wild with like an embossed leather binding with metal fixtures or something equally extravagant.
