battle without honor or humanity. best. instrumental. of. all.time. . . . there isn't a super period for me to emphasize the best-ness of it.
The Storm by Yanni would like to have a word with you.
competition, to be true. But i'm biased, i watch Kill Bill a little to often for my health.
true true, Kill Bill is amazing and that song is great.

i good solo that comes to mind right away is the one from Fallen Angel by Poison, its very pasionent and i like to describe as if the guitar is crying. speaking of which while my guitar gently weeps by the beatles is also a good one.

these are just the ones that come to mind at first glance i could probably find some really good solos.
You sir have gained Badass status for mentioning Poison

But I'd have to say Wait by White Lion has the perfect guitar solo for me just because it holds some memories.
or the little drum solo in The Fountain of Lamneth by Rush. It just has such a rolling motion to it that i could find myself lost in it if i looped it

World's best guitar solo

I'm declaring it here and now. World's BEST.
I couldn't agree more.

The words to describe it are probably "shock and awe".

That heavy metal bullshit is not talented solos, it's "lets see how fast I can go up and down on the fretboard"
Words cannot express how much I agree with that.
Words can't express how suprised I am to find another on the Escapist who thinks the same. It's like finding a parrot in a desert.
You're not alone. I very much agree also.

I seem to be doing a lot of agreeing on this thread, so it's time for a controversial statement.

I despise ridiculously shaped guitars like this.

Finally! Someone who gets it.

And those are excellent descriptors. You just earned yourself a friend request!

Ahh the notorius BC rich guitars, I too despise any guitar that looks like it doubles as somthing I use to cut my vegtables with(yes my knives are that excentric).

So I'm sitting here COMPLETELY bored out of my mind. So to calm my nerves (making threads is serious business) I decide to put on some music. Now the first song I always play before hitting random is Cliffs of Dover and everytime I listen to it, I say to myself that I could listen to these solos all damn day. Now if you don't know what I'm going to ask you next, what the hell have you been reading?!

I'll ask anyway: What is the one solo you could listen to all day long (not literally)?
P.S. Any kind of solo, not just guitar (flute solos ftw).
P.P.S. My 1000 post! Took me damn well long enough...
YYZ by Rush. Fantastic Guitar Solo aswell as several Drum and Bass Solos which are also amazing.

More than a feeling by Boston. Epic song which joins fluidly with an epic solo. Brilliance.

Fade to Black by Metallica. Pretty much speaks for itself.

Wishmaster by Nightwish. The First solo is just hilariously epic and the second one is just brilliant.

*I say "world's" best, because aliens might have better guitar solos. I dunno. I haven't heard much alien music.
Much? What of their stuff HAVE you heard? (Aliens)

But yes, I love that solo. It's awesome.

Megadeth's "Tornado of Souls" comes to mind, as does "Holy Wars...the Punishment Due," plus Rush's "YYZ," NIN's "Ruiner," Judas Priest's "The Hellion/Electric Eye" and the White Stripes' "Catch Hell Blues."

And, to echo an earlier statement, anything Hendrix ever did.

Steve Vai - "Blue Powder" [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m3KjHpB72hA]

Easily one of the most powerful guitar solos in history. Vai is right up there with Pink Floyd in my book.

Mm, I just love the solo in Lazy by Deep Purple and of course the ending solo in Sultans of Swing. Though Comfortably Numb is still the best.

Demons and Wizards - "Fiddler on the Green"
Dream Theater - "Stream of Consciousness" (The whole song is epic, but at 3:50 is probably my favorite part. Amazing solo.)
Dream Theater - "Glass Prison" (2:28 mark)
Rush - YYZ
Pink Floyd - Comfortably Numb
