My reasoning did have to do with the darkness, and the weight on the cheeks and jaw and around the eyes. You've done it so that he skin appears very weathered and dry, especially around the lips. I'm not saying that the texture is a bad thing, but for a younger face I might suggest more moderation.
On the cheek and jaw, yes it's too dark. On the eyes, a combination of the shadow cast by the hat, the actual sunken level of my eyes and the fact that eyes (mine in particular) have a blueish tint to the skin around it, that's actually pretty accurate to my eyes. In terms of moderating the texture it's actually a case of moderating it less. If the texture was more even over the entire thing it'd be less noticed, as it is it is anomolous and stands out to make that part of the skin look more weathered.

Since it includes literature, this is my deviantART page: http://riobux.deviantart.com/ . There's some stories there that I've done within the past few months although I'm currently on a hiatus until further notice. Although I am considering writing a non-fiction story about my experiences with religion.

So I've picked up Warhammer 40k, playing Eldar. Here are my first attempts at model painting. They're not finished yet, I'll include more pictures when they are.

I've been drawing Pin-ups!

It's Cody Avvers (Lady Cadaver) Y'know that somewhat cute zombie girl I draw sometimes.

Swamp Girl, a new addition to the super heroine roster of the Lady Cadaver universe.

Elle Saunders, The leading female from PTG (Playing The Game) my weekly comic series (which is on hiatus at the moment).

An Archvile sketch

My own take on the cyber demon, sort of a cross between the classic one and the Doom 3 one.
Don't mean to bother you, but how do you approach drawing pixel art? Could you explain it to me? Do you draw it pixel by pixel or is there a program that converts images. I'm just curious, how long would these take?

....Good Emperor, this is your FIRST time? I've been into 40k since I was 7 and I'm not even that good! Well done.

Hmmm, sorry guys, I'm rather self conscience about my art, maybe if I get better I'll post more up.

To be fair I painted an Ultramarine once while I was in Melbourne, and being an artist helps.

Fair enough. xD Do you plan on playing, or is just an artist project?

Well, I've never been a big fan of fan art. I've always largely believed I should be able to come up with original concepts. Sometimes you don't feel like coming up with a fully original concept, though. Thus I've embraced fan art to a much larger degree, now. Thus I'm starting on a couple of pieces based around my favorite anime: Claymore. This is about an hour and a half-two hour piece based on the character Phantom Miria. I'm hoping that if I can get my person drawing skills up a bit I can start doing some more actiony illustrations. See, I think I have creature design up to a level of competence wherein its just my rendering ability that needs improving, once I have that then my creatures will be fine. My rendering I can improve by working with any subject matter, really. Thus I'm going to try and move on to enviros and characters a bit more. Come back to creatures a bit later. That said, I will try and post my creature of the week this week pretty soon.

There's nothing wrong with that. My only real problem with fan art is when people use it to coast their way to popularity and never attempt anything else. If you've been around on DeviantART, I'm sure you've seen what I mean.

First I sketch out what I want, work out the pose and concept, after that is done I do the outline in a program called Graphics Gale. After that's been done I color it up in photoshop (because I'm still figuring out Graphics Gale's pallet). For the most part it's done 'pixel by pixel' but I kind of refer to my method to be more 'carving' in the sense that I usally fill in an area then add or subtract with other colors. The basic icons can take anywhere from 4 hours to 6 hours depending.

I have a video of my drawing of an icon from the outline to finish, but I'm having difficulty simply speeding up the video and removing the sound for upload.
