I mean the LBW appeal. Hussey was given out then appealed and it was turned over - it was close but fair does. Soon after, LBW appeal umpire says not out because he was reviewed and wrong a little earlier.
Like I said, he didn't say not out the 2nd time because of the previous review, it was the two noises. There was no doubt that pitched in line, or that it was going to hit the stumps.

Plus when we appealed for Clarke caught behind snicko picked up a sound that could only have been a nick but hotspot said not out. Hence we lost an appeal when we *shouldn't*. I realise this is sour grapes but where better to let off a bit of steam?
It was very similar to one of our lost appeals in your first innings, when Katich was convinced there was a nick but hotspot didn't confirm it.

Sorry for the lack of updates. Strauss was out stumped by haddin for 110 shortly before tea. We have now resumed with cook and trott at the crease. ENGLAND lead is currently 23, england 244 - 1.

Cook reaches his century with a 4, now on 103. New ball is available next over...

The match is very much in the balance now, I feel. If we can survive the new ball with one wicket or maybe even no wickets lost the victory should be hard for you aussies.

Smithy (may I call you 'smithlar'?!), I must say I am enjoying our exchanges thus-far, long may you dispute calls that go in england's favour! I am really quite nervous as the new ball comes in, even more so by the missed catch mere seconds ago!

I, also, am a big fan of colly. He always seems to be able to play the innings we need from him, whether that's to steady the ship or to score some runs. Also, one of the best catchers of the ball I've ever seen. Strauss out is a blow, but he'll give us important innings' later in the series, he's too good a batsman not too. It was said in the build up his role as a captain is more important than his role as a batsman.
Yeah, I'm not entirely sure why I like him.... I guess it's because i respect the amount of effort he puts into his Cricket(Due to his lack of natural talent)

He is the best catcher in the game(Excluding slip fielders and close fielders.

Strauss'll deliver, it's only a matter of time.
He's not UNtalented, though I see what you mean. He might not have the technique of someone like Bell but he gets the job done. Right now I want and innings of the future captain from Cook.
You are talking to a devout Colly fan. But, yes, he does have substantial talent. He just doesn't have the complete natural ability of Pieterson or Flintoff(Nor the Natural size)

Cook? Nah, unless he gets a sudden boost from somewhere, he'll be dropped as soon as a replacement opener becomes available.
I do hate to disagree with a fellow englishman but I do love to point out that cook seems to be doing the business (touch wood). I have a new-found respect for him fostering at the moment... We always knew he could stay in but right now he is staying in when he REEALLY needs to, even after our captain has needlessly gotten himself out.

I hope Siddles arm isn't boned from that dropped catch. Considering Johnson is playing fucking woefully, that leaves everything up to Ben Hilfen and Doherty.

EDIT: Oh thank god, he seems to be fine
I didn't want to be the first to say for the sake of jinxing it but Johnson so far has no wickets, no runs and a dropped catch to his name.

This is one of the best games of Test Cricket I've seen recently.

And I'm glad to see that a quality player like Strauss made some runs, he certainly didn't deserve a duck in the first innings.

That said, it will be interesting to see if England can keep this up, and even more interesting to see how Australia responds in their second innings

EDIT: now that we've both said that about Johnson, he'll get a hat-trick and a double century.
I agree, as I said early on in this thread, strauss is too good a batsman to not give us a good innings sooner or later. I must say I can't see anything other than a draw in this test as it stands now. We are batting well but don't have enough time to post a target and bowl aus out.

*your edit* Exactly what I mean, I will never forgive myself if he wins aus the ashes.

I can't see this game going either way at the moment, it will take either phenomenal bowling or batting to get either side a win.

Looks as though we are done for the day. Cook has stayed in all day, having already faced some overs yesterday. England finish the day at 309 - 1, Cook on 132 and Trott on 54. England lead by 88.

Seems like I picked the right day to sleep. Only saw the period after Australia took the new ball, but the pitch seemed pretty lifeless, very good for batting on. Seemed more like a mid-day 3 pitch than a late day 4 one. Admittedly, Cook and Trott were batting well, albeit with a bit of luck with Siddle and Clarke dropping very difficult chances. Johnson completely fucked up a relatively simple one for this level though, if he doesn't come out and get a bag of wickets tomorrow, I'd be bringing Bollinger in for him.

Just thought I'd drop a post congratulating Cook and co. Really pleased for Cookie in particular. He still looks dodgy as hell sometimes but I won't complain while he's scoring runs. Its looking more and more like the series is going to turn depending on who's bowlers can actually consistently take wickets. Conditions are still going to favour the batsmen (particularly at Adelaide).

This series could get real boring, real fast.

But the quote of the test comes from Test Match Special, and one of Michael Vaughan's tweet.

"It must me dress-up day on the final day of the Gabba Test, and all the Australians seem to have come as Plastic Seats!"
