Like I said, he didn't say not out the 2nd time because of the previous review, it was the two noises. There was no doubt that pitched in line, or that it was going to hit the stumps.I mean the LBW appeal. Hussey was given out then appealed and it was turned over - it was close but fair does. Soon after, LBW appeal umpire says not out because he was reviewed and wrong a little earlier.
It was very similar to one of our lost appeals in your first innings, when Katich was convinced there was a nick but hotspot didn't confirm it.Doive said:Plus when we appealed for Clarke caught behind snicko picked up a sound that could only have been a nick but hotspot said not out. Hence we lost an appeal when we *shouldn't*. I realise this is sour grapes but where better to let off a bit of steam?
Smithy (may I call you 'smithlar'?!), I must say I am enjoying our exchanges thus-far, long may you dispute calls that go in england's favour! I am really quite nervous as the new ball comes in, even more so by the missed catch mere seconds ago!smithy_2045 said:Like I said, he didn't say not out the 2nd time because of the previous review, it was the two noises. I do hate to disagree with a fellow englishman but I do love to point out that cook seems to be doing the business (touch wood). I have a new-found respect for him fostering at the moment... We always knew he could stay in but right now he is staying in when he REEALLY needs to, even after our captain has needlessly gotten himself out.vrbtny said:You are talking to a devout Colly fan. But, yes, he does have substantial talent. He just doesn't have the complete natural ability of Pieterson or Flintoff(Nor the Natural size)Doive said:He's not UNtalented, though I see what you mean. He might not have the technique of someone like Bell but he gets the job done. Right now I want and innings of the future captain from Cook.vrbtny said:Yeah, I'm not entirely sure why I like him.... I guess it's because i respect the amount of effort he puts into his Cricket(Due to his lack of natural talent)Doive said:I, also, am a big fan of colly. He always seems to be able to play the innings we need from him, whether that's to steady the ship or to score some runs. Also, one of the best catchers of the ball I've ever seen. Strauss out is a blow, but he'll give us important innings' later in the series, he's too good a batsman not too. It was said in the build up his role as a captain is more important than his role as a batsman.
He is the best catcher in the game(Excluding slip fielders and close fielders.
Strauss'll deliver, it's only a matter of time.
Cook? Nah, unless he gets a sudden boost from somewhere, he'll be dropped as soon as a replacement opener becomes available.
I didn't want to be the first to say for the sake of jinxing it but Johnson so far has no wickets, no runs and a dropped catch to his name.Zekksta said:I hope Siddles arm isn't boned from that dropped catch. Considering Johnson is playing fucking woefully, that leaves everything up to Ben Hilfen and Doherty.
EDIT: Oh thank god, he seems to be fine
I agree, as I said early on in this thread, strauss is too good a batsman to not give us a good innings sooner or later. I must say I can't see anything other than a draw in this test as it stands now. We are batting well but don't have enough time to post a target and bowl aus out.Zekksta said:This is one of the best games of Test Cricket I've seen recently.Doive said:I didn't want to be the first to say for the sake of jinxing it but Johnson so far has no wickets, no runs and a dropped catch to his name.Zekksta said:I hope Siddles arm isn't boned from that dropped catch. And I'm glad to see that a quality player like Strauss made some runs, he certainly didn't deserve a duck in the first innings.
That said, it will be interesting to see if England can keep this up, and even more interesting to see how Australia responds in their second innings
EDIT: now that we've both said that about Johnson, he'll get a hat-trick and a double century.
