I never had such an assignment... but then again, I homeschooled during my high-school years and lacked such formal education on the matter. What I know of decent parenting comes from what I learned from my own parents.

Wait what? I've seen that on comedy shows, I didn't know it actually happened. Seriously what the hell is that going to teach you?

Wow. What grade/type of school are you in? I never had to do that throughout public high school....

I know in our parenting class as well as human growth and development this assignment is mandatory, but the classes are electives. A (Sort of) funny thing about this at our school is that all 20 or so robot babies are black! The (terrible) rumor is that they were cheaper. (Our school is 95% White, and has 1600 students, Catholic SB, Canada)

Yeah, our school had these mechanical baby things that cried every 2 minutes and you had to either feed it, rock it, change it's daiper (it had 2 with different sensors on each pad) and carry around for a week. To ensure you actually did this, it recorded EVERYthing so the teacher could see how many times you screwed up. Or you could do a 6 page report and like, 10 worksheets. I was the only person in the class that chose the latter, so that pretty much says what I think about it right there. I don't need a type of litmus test to tell you that I would make a horrible parent and I hate kids anyways.

I'm so glad we don't have those assignments here (Norway), it looks kinda stupid going around carrying an egg or a bag of flour in my opinion.

You should paint devil horns and fangs on your egg, then, when your teacher says anything about it, yell, "HE WAS BORN THIS WAY, AND I LOVE HIM! YOU DON'T UNDERSTAND WHAT IT'S LIKE TO BE A PARENT!"

Nah not here in Australia. But I was only in Highschool till Year 10 (not sure what that means overseas, there are 12 years of schooling in our education, year 7 being High School)

Then I dropped out and went to TAFE instead (sort of like University but I think it's only done in NSW), so no, not that I know of.

Ive seen it on American Sitcom. I don't think they do it in the U.K

They probably know we would just stick it in the fridge for a week.

This, on both accounts. Is this a strictly American thing or does the U.K do this too?

In Australia, at my high school at least, it was part of one of the home ec. courses to take care of the plastic baby for a weekend, or if you didn't do that course you could choose to do it anyway.

Reached the grade?
...so what, you're six? 'Cause that's when I had to do the egg assignment, (look after an egg for a week.)

Failed too. Last day some dickhead knocked it out of my hands and it broke.
Thanks for opening up old wounds. Poor egg.

My sister's friend lived with us for a while, and she was doing a Child Care course in college. They had these high-tech babies with sensors in them, so it would mark down when they were shaken, hit, or not taken care of. Pretty impressive stuff.

Anyway, when she wasn't watching, or was having a shower or something, I would take the baby and beat it furiously. Shaking, head-stomping, throwing, the whole 9 yards.

She failed that class.
