Battlefield 3 Won goty.. That's ridiculous.
Erm, unless my eyes are deceiving me Battlefield 3 didn't win GOTY, Portal 2 did. BF3 just picked up the GAME (a retail chain like Gamestop who're about to go into administration) award, chosen because their customers voted for it online.

Have to say I can't really argue with any of the results, particularly happy for Portal 2 and Insanely Twisted Shadow Planet.

Well no game really stood out this year in terms of innovation or story. Games like Half-Life, portal 1, old rpg's etc still stand above this year's games.
Uh, how about Catherine? It combined a story about infidelity with puzzle-oriented gameplay.
And used a standard controller to do the movements. I think what makes SS stand out among those is the fact that it had Motion controls and decent ones at that too. Its story was better than most LoZ games of the past. It also added voice to a voiceless character. Personally I feel like the game put too much into the motion controls and that made its map smaller than previous 3d Zelda games. But I also feel that among those titles it was against it did the most innovative thing.

WAIT WAIT WAIT I just made a huge paragraph post about LoZ:SS then looked at the list again and realized that it didn't win for innovation that was Little Big Planet 2 that won that. Now I feel stupid for defending it.

Portal 2 for story? Whut?
I do have Portal 2 and payed it a lot. But the story isn't exactly awesome.
its pretty unique in the way it tells you the story. And rather than events happening to you it was telling you how the place you were in came to be that way. If you looked around and absorbed what was going on it was very good in that regard.

Not to mention the spectacular voice talent.
Yeah I did poke around the areas and find stuff like Caroline and Cave Johnson's portrait. And the voice acting was superb, but I just felt the story was...rather easily written?

I'm extremely happy that the Sprite artwork in Rayman: Origins beat out the 3D graphic games. I just adore sprite artwork.

I'm also glad that Valve won awards. They deserve it.

I wouldn't be able to get past it's japanese aesthethics and storytelling, so I wouldn't know.
I wouldn't make blanket statements then. :p
"I haven't played any games that stood out this year in terms of innovation or story." would be much better.
And there are none, none that also interest me. I'm just stating my opinions, not fact. But I don't like you insulting me. I may not like Japanese games, but I don't have a console anyhow.
I didn't insult you. I don't know where you got that idea.

They are just trying to be trendy and different by not letting Skyrim win, invalidates all of the awards.

BF3 multiplayer may be great on PC but on consoles it plays like shit.

DICE Employee: "Well since we have to cut the console player count down to 24, don't you think we should modify the maps to better accomodate them?"
DICE Boss: "Mmmm... nope."
DICE Employee: "But the maps are designed for 64 players? Playing on them with only 24 players won't be any fun. 80% of the time they'll just be running around trying to get to the action. Don't you think-"
DICE Boss: "Hmm... what? Stop pestering me. I'm bird watching or whatever it the fuck it is I do instead of making reasonable decisions."
