I visited America and ordered chips alongside some a hotdog and was disgusted when I realised I'd ordered crisps. ;/ You guys suck. I had to deal with ready salted crisps rather than some nice salted, vinegar drenched chips.

Well to me best CRISPS are Sea Salt and Balsamic Vinegar co-op crisps.

But best CHIPS i've ever had is from a fish and chip shop near the bus station.

No, I think you hid your disdain rather well really. Sorry for the confusion. Though I do have to ask... people obviously know what I'm talking about, otherwise you wouldn't have put CHIPS and CRISPS in all caps... you wouldn't have even given the two separate answers if you had no idea what I was talking about. You'd have just answered... so my question is, if you know what I am talking about, why give the hard time?

You made no distinction, remember people from all around the world are here, so put something like:

What are your favourite chips;
For the non-Americans we mean crisps.

the meaning of chips changes I believe the meaning of crisp does not?

I believe listing both the Lay's BBQ and Salt and Vinegar chips stated quite well what I meant, as those are both well known examples of "crisps".

Don't assume something well known there is well know here, personally I dunno who the hell "Lays" are. Walkers would have been better.
