In hindsight i should have just made it 'Indie Games' overall, rather than just free ones. It would have had much more discussion value, though only in this context. In any case, flashgames do count, since although browser based, they are games and theyre made by Indies, so... yes.Blemontea said:Well shit... i just noticed the "free" part of the title. ... i got nothing but if you want a good non free indie then try Beat Hazard and Miner Dig Deep. Both fun and have extreme replay value becuase they technically dont end. WAIT what about those free arcade flash games people make like Fancy Pants Adventure, do those count?
Actually, Braid costs money. And I haven't really played many, so I'll say Alien Swarm.godofallu said:My pick would be Braid because I loved the writing. Sorry that it is mainstream.
Indeed - Mainly of course since theyre mostly made by very small groups, if not one person.Ashsaver said:There are a lot of RPGmaker games out there that are really good.
Sadly, some of them are never finished,or lost forever.
Ha ha, N was a great game.Yosharian said:[http://www.thewayoftheninja.org/n.html]![]()
All fixed - For a game made so long ago and with such a minimal fashion, it certainly stands the test of time.Yosharian said:I changed the image, lolEstocavio said:Ha ha, N was a great game.
yeah columbine was really intenseKhaiseri said:I would say Columbine Massacre RPG. I mean ,no free indie game has give me a emotion as much as this game.
Another indie art game that I want to suggest but that isn't free would be The Void.
Well, theyre not completely mainstream, so its fine. And theyre worth mentioning and thats kind of the main thing.Yosharian said:Dungeon Keeper 1. Same thing as the previous game, some guys went and remade the entire thing as a standalone installer. I've got it working on Windows 7, so it's quite good compatibility-wise. It features a number of fan-made campaigns although honestly they are quite variable in quality. But it's a good reason to check out an old classic again.
edit: err I realised some of these aren't indie games... but oh well!

doesnt change the point, but yeah we need to track down all the free versions and remakes of the classics and start a lecturing thread for the younglings hereYosharian said:I'm betting a large percentage of younger gamers have never even heard of itFetzenfisch said:well is a mainstream hit not mainstream just because its old? everyone played dungeon keeper in the old daysEstocavio said:Well, theyre not completely mainstream, so its fine. It helps if you play with a spoiler website [http://www.statslab.cam.ac.uk/~eva/nethack/spoilerlist.html] and the wiki [http://nethack.wikia.com/wiki/Main_Page] in the background. Something to see what the actual item price [http://img213.imageshack.us/img213/4205/14pricetable.jpg] is helps too.Chal said:Very recently downloaded Nethack as well. I've yet to win even with the "Explore mode" easy play stuff. Even when I can refuse dying/wish for the best gear, the times where you can get de-leveled into having 1 HP, or are suddenly surrounded by tougher, multiplying enemies that would take hundreds of lives to hack your way through, prevent ascension. I think I just suck, but that won't stop me from trying again.
