id say the Nihontou, Japanese sword. Its not perfect, as everyone seems to think, they did break, and chip and so on, but no where else on earth, was the making of the sword as revered as it is in Japan. The sword was one of the sacred symbols of the Shinto Religion, and considered an extremely important part of the religion because it was made using the five elements.

Swordsmiths were on a constant path to always improve on the sword, compared to the smiths that came before them. "The edge is the endless skill of the inventor" as was said by Kazuo Koike, through the pages of Lone Wolf and Cub.

Smiths gaurded there work with fierce energy. Theres a legend that the smith Masamune once had a fellow smith visit while he was making a sword. Even then he was renowned as one of the best swordsmiths in Japan, and while visiting the fellow smith dipped his finger into the water that Masamune used to temper his blades. He had attempted to break Masamune's secrets and understand why his blades were so much better than his own, and without a second thought, Masamune took the redhot, unfinished blade, and struck the offending smiths hand from his body.

I have a book, its called the Connoisseur's book of Japanese Swords. It gives an indepth view at the various shapes and types of NIhontou through Japan's History, including indepth looks at various schools and smiths. This list, includes some 5000 various smiths, and is largely an incomplete listing.

1500 years, of endless improvements and skillful manipulation of steel, forged in a fire of war and battle, and quenched in the water of rebirth, the Japanese Sword is amongst the finest weapons, ever created by human hands.
liked kill bill?
not especially. Im a long time exponent of the Japanese Sword, ive studied Muso Jikiden Eishin Ryu Iaido for the past 12 years and ive also studied Bujinkan Budo Taijutsu. Ive been an avid collector and student of the Nihontou since i was a small girl and its been something thats been a point of facination for as long as i can remember. There are a thousand subtleties to the Japanese Sword that you dont see in other bladed weapons.

I have to disagree my fellow Escapist, this would counter your choice of Ultimate Weapon.

<spoiler=Ultimate Weapon Upgraded>

It shoots 55 muffins per second at speeds of 272 miles per hour.

Besides, that rocket launcher the marines have would tumble over easily with all that weight.
I'm sorry, I can't hear you over the soud of MAXIMUM FUCK.

...have you actually studied these "other blades"?

Now, I won't deny that the Japanese were as crazy about their swords as they are about, well, everything. Like, drawing letters... and arranging flowers... and pouring tea for three fucking hours...

But the thing is, swords are kind of a big deal with all the compensating killing and stuff we humans like so much. So even in Europe(and absofuckinglutely everywhere they were invented) swords were studied and developed and respected and artsyfied to such amounts one almost might think Freud was onto something.

And all of that religiousness doesn't really make the weapon any more effective, trial and error does, and the motivation doesn't really matter. In fact, all that worshipping(and wesseling for a warriors soul(?) might get in the way of making a good "pure" tool.

Not to offend you or anything, but it sounds to me like you're more facinated by the worship than the actual product, wich is nothing special if we forget aestethics.
