I agree that Abrams shouldn't have the keys to both of those sci-fi kingdoms, but I'd prefer him to Michael Bay, among others. I haven't enjoyed Star Wars since becoming a junior high student, for reasons mainly in the "pure" sci-fi fan college of reasoning. I believe more in stories where the science isn't just a new lens to look at a fantasy story through, which is how I felt Star Wars was. I would love to see more focus on what these movies will entail, but that's the real problem here: J.J. Abrams is more concerned with being some sort of spy-master when it comes to keeping secrets that I'll not be interested in this trilogy.
Part of my interest towards this new trilogy lies in the fact that I carry a somewhat morbid curiosity in how the infrastructure would collapse after the regime change when the Rebellion took over (what is the only logical conclusion when you look at most political models after a violent revolution). They would probably adopt the senate again, which was such a splendid success the first time around.
