You're right, but why is that an important distinction?
Because this is the same thing.... An episode that leaves you with the impression that a main person from the series is dead. Then they say no just kidding the next episode.

So just watched the show after the introduction of what ever the new dogs name is, and he literally brings nothing to the show and what Brian's character brought to the show is still missing.
Also... what are they going to do about episodes where Stewie uses time machines? Cut those out all together even though they are a staple of the show? Because if he ever makes another time machine he would want to bring back Brian.
